Here’s an excellent cover of one of the most powerful anthems of all time, Van Halen’s “Dreams” from the “5150” album!
This was performed by three young mates in Australia (Josh Gallagher on drums (who we’ve featured previously with his friend Jacob Deraps), his brother Luke Gallagher on guitar, and Sal Abate on vocals. They’re premiering the video exclusively for the readers of the Van Halen News Desk.
All three guys have a story about this they’d like to share:
Josh (drums): “This song has had a HUGE impact on me and is actually my earliest introduction to Van Halen. I was a diehard Power Rangers kid in the late ’90s, so one of my earliest memories is hearing this song in the credits of “Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie” and I loved it then just as much as I do now!
It’s definitely my favourite Hagar era track and for me there are very few songs that can match the triumphant power of “Dreams.” It never fails to give me chills every time I hear it.
I had a blast working on this cover with Luke and Sal, the keyboard parts and production were especially challenging! This is the first video in which I have filmed myself playing full bass and keyboard tracks. Thanks so much to the Van Halen News Desk for premiering our video, it’s an honour! We are so proud of this cover, and hope you all enjoy it!”
Luke (guitar): “The first time I heard Van Halen, it wasn’t only Eddies incredible playing style that made me want more, it was his incredible versatility with keyboard playing and song writing. “Dreams” and 5150 has always been an incredibly inspiring song/album and is what influenced me as a player today.”
Sal (vocals): “When I first heard Van Halen 1, I was hooked. It spoke to me. I wanted more so I got one of their best of albums, then realized there was Sammy Hagar. Hagar has a great vocal range with an awesome tone and I loved this new sound with Hagar at the helm. “Dreams” is definitely one of the more challenging covers I’ve had the pleasure of attempting. Hagar is one of a kind!!”
