Ain’t talkin’ bout love! Cleveland’s Sun Times reports:
A couple was arrested after their argument over who was the greatest guitarist of all time became so heated that Motel 6 staff was forced to call the Brook Park police.
The boyfriend was screaming on behalf of Slash, lead guitarist for Guns and Roses. The girlfriend was jumping for Eddie Van Halen, namesake of ’80s rockers Van Halen.
When police arrived, they calmed down and agreed to be quiet. However, their names were run through a database that revealed they had outstanding warrants in other cities. Both were arrested.
All that trouble from a Slash vs. Eddie Van Halen debate? Just imagine if it was ‘Sammy vs. Dave!’
What would Slash say about this? Here’s what he said about Eddie in Guitar World’s April 2012 issue; “I realized that even though I never tried to imitate Eddie, I do have a knack for going for the same kind of fast, fluid passages he does – which I obviously picked up subconsciously from listening to Van Halen records.”
Slash also congratulated Eddie when he was proclaimed “The Greatest Guitarist of All Time” in Guitar World’s recent readers poll.
Additionally, Slash wrote the foreword for Neil Zlozower’s hardcover photo book, Eddie Van Halen.
