Could Sammy Hagar’s touring days be over? A recent comment from Hagar suggests that’s the case.
“I don’t think I want to go on tour anymore,” the 77-year old Hagar recently told the Miami Herald. “I hate to say that, because I don’t want to piss my fans off.”
Hagar is coming off a highly successful Best of All Worlds summer tour and is now gearing up to play a residency in Las Vegas beginning on April 30th. As with the summer tour, Hagar will play a setlist of mostly Van Halen songs and will be joined by fellow Van Halen bassist Michael Anthony. Returning on lead guitar is Joe Satriani while Kenny Aronoff, who replaced Jason Bonham during the latter part of the summer tour, will be behind the drumkit.
The idea of a residency has become very appealing to Hagar and is something he says could help continue his career further.
“I keep telling my manager, ‘Don’t take any tours, let me do this residency,'” he said. “If I like it enough, I’ll do another one. And if that’s successful I’ll do another one, and I can squeeze a few more years out of my career. …With this, I don’t have to travel, I don’t have to unpack and pack and get on an airplane every day. You know, at my age, it hurts my shoulders to do all this. And I have to perform. I’m a performer, at the end of the day.”
