Alice Cooper drummer Glen Sobel gave it up to the “King of Swing” Alex Van Halen during a recent visit to Sunset Sound Studios.
During his roundtable interview with Sunset Sound Recorders host Drew Dempsey, Sobel was asked why Van Halen’s “I’m The One” is such an important song.
“[Because] it swings,” said Sobel of the song recorded at Sunset Sound Studios in Los Angeles in 1977. “The whole group swings. That’s another thing that they brought to rock and roll was, ‘Hey, this is gonna swing and, whether you know it or not, you’re gonna swing to it.”
In the video segment below, Sobel explores Alex’s innovative techniques and other career highlights including “Loss Of Control”, “Outta Love Again” and “Push Comes To Shove”.
