Steel Panther have released a pair of covers from Van Halen’s classic second album.
The band’s renditions of “Beautiful Girls” and “D.O.A.” – originally from 1979’s ‘Van Halen II’ – were filmed and recorded virtually from the band members’ individual homes.
“When we were playing weekly shows on the Sunset Strip, Van Halen music was essential to our setlists to keep the place rocking. The music of that band is what helped shape who Steel Panther is today. The loss of Eddie Van Halen has affected each of us in the band and these covers are our tribute to him to say thank you for the joy Van Halen music has given us,” said Steel Panther.
Both songs are now available for download.
Steel Panther is Ralph “Michael Starr” Saenz on lead vocals, Russ “Satchel” Parrish on guitar, Travis “Lexxi Foxx” Haley on bass and Darren “Stix Zadinia” Leader on drums and keyboards.
Saenz has plenty of experience singing Van Halen classics. He was the lead singer for the David Lee Roth-era Van Halen tribute band Atomic Punks from 1994 to 2008, where he used the stage name David Lee Ralph.
Guitarist Russ Parrish was also in the Atomic Punks from 2002-2006.
