Wolfgang Van Halen said the video for his Mammoth WVH single “Distance” had to be as raw and candid as the song itself.
“In order for people to understand the pain I’m going through I think you kinda have to let [the viewers] in that closely so they know what I’ve lost,” Wolfgang said during during an interview with Zito of Florida’s 98.7 The Shark. “I think that’s why the video seems so personal almost to a staggering amount where you feel like you shouldn’t be watching it.”
Zito conveyed his thoughts to Wolfgang on what he appreciated most about the “Distance” video.
“Just to see how caring [Eddie Van Halen] was as a father, telling you he loved you. The frickin’ voicemail at the end of the thing was a tearjerker as well,” he told Wolfgang. “I thought that was really, really cool for people to see because they might not know that that’s what Eddie Van Halen was like when the lights were turned off.”
Wolfgang responded, “I think it’s important to have everybody know that.”
The “Distance” video has amassed over four million views on YouTube since it launched on November 16th.
