A mural painting of Eddie Van Halen at the Guitar Center in Hollywood is set to be completed this weekend. It will be officially unveiled on the day of Eddie’s birthday – January 26th.
Artist Robert Vargas has been busy painting EVH since Thursday and expects his work to be finished by Sunday.
“I’ll be painting this, 10am -6pm, Thursday thru Sun, Jan 17th,” Vargas posted to Facebook. “You can cruise by outside and watch me create this epic mural from your car or you can tune-in to the live stream here, everyday at 4pm. I will be blasting the entire catalog as I paint!”
Vargas is a contemporary artist known for his mixed-media portraits, murals and live events. Born and raised in the Los Angeles neighborhood of Boyle Heights, his best-known works include a City of L.A. commissioned mural “Can’t Stop” of legendary Suicidal Tendencies frontman Mike Muir. He sees his public mural works both in Los Angeles and throughout the world as a means to reach a wider audience and promote accessible art and community through the creative process.
Leeza London of Laguna Beach’s KX FM Radio posted this behind-the-scenes video including an interview with Vargas:
