While Wolfgang Van Halen wants to honor his father Eddie’s legacy he is also determined to forge his own path as an artist. It’s with that mindset that he came up with his new band name: Mammoth WVH.
“I really like the Mammoth name, because I think only super die-hard Van Halen fans are familiar with the name and I think overall, most people don’t really know the connection,” Wolfgang explained in a new interview with Barbara Caserta of Italy’s Linea Rock, which you can watch in the video above. “So in a way, it’s a subtle homage without kind of treading the same ground, if you will.”
It was Wolfgang’s dad and uncle Alex Van Halen who chose to name their band Mammoth back in 1974 when David Lee Roth first joined.
