The most popular trance music DJ in the world has remixed Van Halen’s most popular song, “Jump.”

One month after Armin van Buuren debuted his hypnotic remix of Van Halen’s “Jump” at Ultra Music Fest with a little onstage help from David Lee Roth, the track is now available to stream. The Dutch trance DJ’s new take starts sparse with a slow-building rhythm and Roth’s lyrics before exploding into Eddie Van Halen’s iconic synth riff. He made it over further with strong, danceable beats, a “Jump … jump … jump” breakdown and a little fade-in, in place of the original’s guitar solo.

Digital Journal has this to say about it:

“Refreshing, uplifting, and infectious. Armin is able to introduce this rock classic to a younger generation of fans that may not be familiar with Van Halen’s original recording. In any case, it will make electronic listeners and fans get up and dance thanks to its progressive and trance spin.

A Dutch trance mega-star, Armin was able to isolate Van Halen frontman David Lee Roth’s iconic verse and juxtaposed it with arpeggiating synths, which are sheer bliss. This collaboration is a match made in electronic music heaven and it allows both David Lee Roth and van Buuren to shine. It is also a substantial indication that good, quality music is able to defy genres.

The Verdict: Overall, Armin van Buuren’s remix of Van Halen’s “Jump” is anthemic, vivacious and nostalgic, all in one. Its catchy hooks help transport their listeners to different realms. This irresistible remix garners an A rating.

In a recent interview with Rolling Stone, van Buuren talked about how his EDM remix came to be.

“I knew the song already as a kid,” he said. “I think I was six years old when the track was a Number One hit everywhere. I was just eager to have the stems, because I always thought, ‘What if you could have the energy of that song from 1982 and transfer it to 2019?’”

Van Buuren made a mix of the track and sent it to Van Halen. The response was positive, particularly from Roth. Soon after, the two teamed up to perform the song together on stage at the Ultra Music Festival in Miami on March 30th.

Van Buuren posted the official remix of “Jump” on his YouTube channel and posted a comment to his fans: “It was such an honor to that David Lee Roth (lead singer of Van Halen) joined me on stage at Ultra Music Festival in Miami this year. Really happy that I got the opportunity to officially release this remix. Do you like my remix? Let me know in the comments section!”

So far fans of van Burren, Van Halen and both are liking it. Here are just some of the comments:

SanTiaGo 9730: “Marvellous Remix by none one than the King of trance!”

Digger Boss: “What a great remix for legendary musical history song.. armin you are the best”

BAZZ MAZE: “This song was my childhood thanks armin for making this sick remix”

Reischa Parker: “The first time I saw Van Halen I was fourteen and now that I’m fifty two it still ranks as the best concert I’ve ever seen and I’ve been to countless concerts. This remix has brought back such great memories of my youth and I love it! Thank you Armin for introducing this to the next generation!”

One other notable comment and request came from nicco999999 who posted: “Well done! Would love to hear you remix Hot for teacher!!!”

Now here is Armin van Buuren’s remix of “Jump”. The track is also available on streaming services:

Armin van Buuren is not only one of the world’s most popular DJs he was the most recent winner of the Highest Trance category at this year’s DJ Mag Top 100 DJs poll. Since Top 100 DJs launched over two decades ago, few DJs have been as consistently successful in the poll as van Buuren. He first placed in 2001 at number 27, the following year he placed fifth and has been at the top each year ever since. Read more about van Buuren’s accomplishments here, and on his Facebook.
