Corey Taylor didn’t just bring his solo band to Wisconsin, he brought along some beautiful girls….. and his pencil too.
“Gimme something to write on Green Bay!”
The Slipknot and Stone Sour front man shouted those words out to a packed house during his band’s performance of Van Halen’s “Hot For Teacher” Sunday night at the Green Bay Distillery in Green Bay, Wisconsin.
Corey Taylor & Friends featuring guitarist Zach Throne, drummer Brandon Pertzborn and bassist Jason Christopher played a 21-song set of all cover songs including not one but two Van Halen classics – “Take Your Whiskey Home” and “Hot For Teacher”. The rest of the band’s set included covers of classics from INXS, Eagles, Guns N’ Roses, The Cars, ZZ Top, The Clash, Black Sabbath, Jimi Hendrix, KISS and more. Van Halen was the only band Taylor chose to cover twice and picked “Hot For Teacher” as the band’s final encore performance song.
Footage of one of the two VH classics hit YouTube shortly after. Here is most of “Hot For Teacher” courtesy of YouTuber Dan Davis. Taylor and the band were joined by the dance troupe and opening act The Cherry Bombs, featuring Taylor’s fiancee Alicia Dove:
Taylor is no stranger to performing Van Halen songs live. It was only just over a week ago that he, along with Michael Anthony, joined John 5 and The Creatures at L.A.’s Whisky A Go Go to perform a set of Van Halen songs (“Runnin’ With The Devil”, “Take Your Whiskey Home” and the cover of The Kinks’ “You Really Got Me”). And the people LOVED it!
