Van Halen Rising has risen once again. Two and a half years after releasing his highly acclaimed book Van Halen Rising author Greg Renoff appeared for the first time on Eddie Trunk’s Sirius/XM radio show “Trunk Nation”.
Renoff sat down with Trunk Wednesday afternoon (4/17/18) for a lengthy interview which took place at The Hard Rock in Tulsa, Oklahoma. On the slim chances that every die-hard Van Halen fan hadn’t already purchased “Van Halen Rising” this was Renoff’s opportunity to remind them once more of its existence. It was also another opportunity for Renoff to talk about one of his all-time favorite bands and the journey he took in writing about Van Halen’s early days.
Trunk revealed during the broadcast that he had been wanting to have Renoff on his show since “Van Halen Rising” was released in October of 2015. He admitted, however, that he wanted to make sure he read the entire book before inviting Renoff on his show for an extensive Q&A. Also, with Renoff residing in Tulsa, Oklahoma, it was the perfect chance to meet the author face-to-face since Trunk normally broadcasts his show out of New York City.
Trunk and Renoff delve into lots of interesting talk about Van Halen’s club days – Van Halen opening for UFO, what DLR was like during the Red Ball Jet era- lots of great stuff from the little-know years before Van Halen’s debut!
Along with discussing his book and Van Halen’s early days Renoff added his thoughts on the state of the band in 2018, revealed his current project – the authorized biography of Van Halen’s original producer, Ted Templeman, and answered questions from callers.
