We have a special report from David Lee Roth’s performance at Saturday night’s Houston Grand Opera Ball. Chuck, a regular at VHND, was at the event and met David Lee Roth. Read Chuck’s account, below, and watch the footage that surfaced from the gig!
“My wife and I attended the event. It was a great night!
“The event was hosted by David Lee Roth’s uncle, who is the director of the Grand Opera.
“First, they did have “dessert and coffee” with DLR, for $200. Remember this is a charity event, these proceeds support the Houston Grand Opera.
“They had a group of singers and musicians from the Opera working the stage for a few songs with him. They had a blast and said he was super friendly.
“One of my wife’s friends was one of the singers on stage, and she even got to sing ‘Jump’ with David during the rehearsal! She said DLR was in town all week and they did several rehearsals for the gig. I was told he was very friendly every night to all the band.
“The crowd was black tie. I met Uncle Roth. Nice man, he was having a great time watching David, so excited I thought he was in tears he was so happy.
“Before the main event, my wife and I went front stage where the singers were going thru a curtain. And through the curtain, I could see David inside the private area. I could not resist, went through the curtain and I found myself in a small area watching David take photos with the dancers. He did shake my hand, and no one asked me to leave. They just said no photos. He was very polite to us. Happy to finally meet the man!
“The set was 3 songs, as I figured. Band was classy. Dave had a few good stories to tell, and looked great.
“I would like to throw in that I talked to several people there from the Houston Grand Opera and the Uptown Houston Hotel. Everyone who was involved in preparing for the event all week seemed to have a good story or something nice to say about DLR being out and about. Band members said he was genuine and humbled to work with them. I would say that most of these people around him all last week were not “VH” fans, but just knew who he was and were exited and honored to have worked with him.”
