Two former members of Van Halen have released something new today — check out the official video for the new song from Chickenfoot, entitled “Divine Termination.”
It’s been more than five years since we’ve heard new music from Chickenfoot, the supergroup featuring Sammy Hagar, founding Van Halen bassist Michael Anthony, Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith and guitar virtuoso Joe Satriani.
The new song is the lead single (and only new studio track) from the upcoming release titled BEST+LIVE, a two-CD set, which features a best-of disc and a new live album, due March 10th.
The video above features a live performance from last May’s series of reunion shows in Tahoe and Chad Smith’s destruction of his drum kit.
In addition to the new tune, Best + Live‘s first disc features memorable tracks from Chickenfoot’s two studio albums, including “Sexy Little Thing,” “Oh Yeah,” “Big Foot” and “Different Devil.” It also contains several songs recorded live at a 2009 Phoenix show, including a rendition of “Bad Motor Scooter” by Hagar’s old band Montrose, and covers of Deep Purple‘s “Highway Star” and The Who‘s “My Generation.”
The second disc has 13 live performances captured at the two March 2016 reunion concerts that Chickenfoot played at Harrah’s Lake Tahoe in Stateline, Nevada. The set showcases most of the songs that appeared on the band’s 2009 self-titled debut album.
“Listening to this collection of songs from the ‘Foot brings back memories of some of the most fun I’ve ever had in a band,” Hagar says of Best + Live. “The chemistry between Chad, Joe, Mike and me is very special. It’s almost like visual music — you can see us having fun when you listen to these songs.”
Meanwhile, Satriani describes “Divine Termination” as “bone crunching, hell raising rock, dripping with attitude and vibe.”
