Van Halen’s performance Sunday night (Aug 9th) in Holmdel, NJ at the PNC Bank Arts Center was unique in that Eddie broke out the EVH STAR guitar — it’s first onstage appearance! David Lee Roth dedicated the song “Ice Cream Man” to Frank Gifford, the football and broadcasting great who died Sunday at the age of 84. (See the video below).
“One of my heroes, Frank Gifford, died today,” said Roth, sitting at a chair on center stage for the acoustic portion of the song. “Football has everything to do with who I am today and I would not be here without football.”
Roth played Pop Warner football and had posters of Gifford along with football stars Bart Starr and Vince Lombardi on the wall of his childhood room along with rockers Bob Dylan and Jimi Hendrix, he said.
“The Van Halens know what I’m talking about,” Roth said.
“I’m going to play the rest of this for Frank and everything he stood for,” Roth said. “Everything that makes America just super good, man.”
Below are videos of most of the show, and great photo galleries of Van Halen and fans in attendance. The whole day and night was one huge PARTY!
Just saw Van Halen and they were amazing. Don't go by negative reviews or watch a shitty video that was shot on a phone. Go see them live.
