“And now, ladies and gentlemen, in honor of their induction tonight into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, please welcome to the stage … VVVVVVVaaaan … er, uh … ahem … I mean, VVVVVVelvet Revolver!”
So here’s how next Monday’s Rock and Roll Hall of Fame ceremony is shaping up: Sammy, Mike and Dave are expected to attended. Conflicting reports in recent days have indicated that Ed and Al will … won’t … will … wait, scratch that—won’t attend.
Even more underwhelming: Rather than mark the occasion by performing together—as is customary for acts being inducted into the Rock Hall—Van Halen will apparently pass on this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, and will instead be feted during a performance from Velvet Revolver.
In related news, VH1 will carry the first-ever live broadcast of the induction ceremony, which is set to take place at the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel in New York City. The live program will air at 8:30 p.m. Eastern Time on VH1 Classic and MHD (MTV Networks’ high-definition music channel), and a two-hour highlight edition will premiere March 17 at 9 p.m., according to a press release.
Meanwhile, for those keeping track, today’s New York Post gossip column, Page 6, claims that, according to Rolling Stone, the group’s recently postponed semi-reunion tour was sidelined due to Eddie’s ongoing love affair with Smoking Loon Merlot.
