VAN HALEN NEWS DESK

Chickenfoot’s “Big Foot” Video

Chickenfoot released the video for their current single “Big Foot”, the first track from the band’s upcoming second album Chickenfoot III. The band’s replacement drummer Kenny Aronoff is in the video, and it’s obvious that the band’s humor is still intact!

  • SCAR

Right fucking on, that, just made my buzz that much more enjoyable!!! Long live the Foot and Fuck you, to all of you uptight, narrow minded haters on this ROCK N ROLL site!!!!

  • evhua

Kenny looks like Satch on drums :-)

  • Ed is God

Boring. Sounds like Going Down by Jeff Beck, but not as good…

  • Snoova

Great video, great song!!! Ready for the album to get released!!!

No one here complaining will ever convince me that “the lyrics” are what truly kill the song. UNLESS I was at the DTND (Dream Theater New Desk). The lyrics are fine… its rock and roll. (And while I like Dream Theater, sometimes I think they plunge too deep into a topic that you miss the point.)

Wasn’t someone bashing “Right now” saying the lyrics sound like they could have been written by someone in grade school or something? Well, “Everybody wants some, I want some too. Everybody wants some, how ’bout you?” does not go any deeper. But its a great song, its rock and roll.

I thought the first Chickenfoot album was great! I still listen to it! You don’t like it? I don’t care. I’d rather you like your music and I’ll like mine. It sure would suck to come here and we all had the same favorite album and favorite song.

  • freddiegirl

CK-Just so you know…I always thought CVH did corny very well and of course they’re the best.. ;) But that doesn’t mean I didn’t enjoy this video; very funny..although I felt kinda bad for the chicken in the end.. ;)

Oh..and I thought of a band that might actually be worse than Nickelback and Creed..Kings of Leon. Arrrrrgh, pretentious, humorless and bland. If you’re going to be humorless and ugly than you’d better be Metallica or Pantera and just own it! No disrespect to Pantera either; I kinda love them.

  • freddiegirl

temple5150-Look at either mine of CK’s last comment. Chickenfoot aren’t bland and humorless. They’re fun and they’re obviously having fun. Kinda like old VH. I never get the sense that Nickelback are having any fun and they just seem so formulaic and pretentious…although not nearly on the scale as Creed or Kings of Leon. Could just me though; just one person’s opinion.

  • Carnal Knowlege

freddiegirl: I could not agree more!

I’d add Coldplay and Muse to your list….of crap. I don’t mind Nickelback. Some of their stuff is pretty good. But, you’re right about them not having enough fun. But, I did see Chad down in Cabo playing with Sammy a few years back. He had fun that night!

  • fullbug

Is that Jay Leno on the drums ??

  • jmc

agree with Ed is God, I was thinking that it reminded me of Goin’ Down (which was a jam that Satch did on G3). I really like Satch but think he is much better in his own trio. still think new VH will blow this (and all else) out of the water. FWIW the drums sounded a little thin, maybe just my iPad.

  • temple5150

I never get the sense that Nickelback are having any fun and they just seem so formulaic and pretentious…”

Have you ever been to a Nickelback show? They are close to perfect, note for note (and plenty of humor, too) and interact with the crowd probably as much as Sammy does. They love their fans and I felt like they were one of the best concerts I’d ever been to after seeing them live — and I am 40, THAT = A LOT OF CONCERTS. ;-)

I actually meant it as a compliment that they were good at being “generic”. People complain daily about Sammy’s “milque toast” lyrics (no depth). But I don’t mind, I LOVE it! It’s all about the music anyways!

Their shows actually remind me of the old(er) days when Sammy was fronting VH and he actually took the time to talk to the audience and not read a script like DLR did during the 2007-08 reunion…fans are #1, and they, like Sammy, know it :-)

  • temple5150

p.s. has everyone forgot Tremonti is the guitarist for Creed? And HE is one of the ones we are basing our expectations on based on his comments of what he heard at 5150 Studios ;-)

Does this mean his opinion doesn’t count…because Creed sucks? :-D

    I didn’t think so…

  • Ari

It’s not bad, but I don’t think the song flows that well into the chorus.

  • James Lonano

Believe me, I’m no critic and love these guys but WTF?!? It’s sounds flat and just trugs along while going nowhere in the process. Worst of all where’s the ‘hook’! Sounds like a left over from a Hagar solo album. I’ll leave judgement until I hear the entire album but leading with this tune wont catch the hard rock masses on fire.

  • jrh

All I got to say is, not bad. Like the music, not so much for Sammy’s half ass lyrics and melody. It definitely sounds better than Van Halen’s new song. Oh, of course it does. We haven’t had one since 1996 in my opinion. And yes, I’m leaving out, III, BOBW, and the porn shit. Humans Being, Me Wise Magic, and Can’t get this stuff no more, kicks the shit out of any chickenfoot song and I hate to say it, but probably the new Van Halen. I hope I’m wrong. Long live 1996. One of the best years musically for the band, with Sam and Dave, but of course also, the end of VH. Balls in your court Eddie.

  • chrisom

I actually think they’re starting to get a bit better. They need to keep capitalizing on their strengths which means keep putting those MA backing vocals in there where they belong, just like on the “For Unlawful” Sammy/VH days. That was a good album.

Keep doing that, and they might actually become a relevant force in today’s rock scene. Still no Van Halen, but hey- even Van Halen’s going to soon either have to put up or shut up to keep their legend alive, so maybe if we’re lucky we can ALL benefit from both bands soon… :)

  • http://www.michaelbeechler.com Michael B

mmmkay, 115 comments so far, I’ll be 116. I liked it. Video was silly, but it’s supposed to be. Fun song. I got it off of iTunes, and I will say that it seems mastered pretty low, volume wise compared to other songs, but maybe it’s just because it was the single. Keep it up, keep it fun, and keep it honest.

  • freddiegirl

temple5150-No, but it does mean I won’t take Tremonti on his word alone. Creed’s just not my thing. I’m sure I like stuff that you don’t care for.. :)

I’m glad to hear that Nickelback are at least good with their fans and are better in concert than on a recording. Some bands like that. The Scorpions have never been one of my favorite bands but they sure can bring it live! Sound better than their records; their live sound was just a like a well-oiled machine.

Eh, we can’t all like the same things but we can all agree that VH are one of the best rock bands ever and that we all can’t wait for new music!

  • Halen High

What’s with this band and all the chicken stuff? They call themselves Chickenfoot, a new video with a guy running around in a chicken suit, chickens in a barn……When Sammy pulled up his sleave I thought he was going to show a tattoo of a chicken.

    Then there’s the foot thing…

I know it’s an attempt at humour – it just fails to go off.

As for the song – in my opinion it just lacks any punch and it’s not really worth listening to again when you have so many other options.

  • Wilkster5150

    @Halen High
Whoa! Watch yourself bro. Nobody is to say one little critical thing about the “mighty” Chickenfoot. Atleast according to a bunch of people who have no problem bashing Dave and VH. Hypocritical BS.
Oh, and for all you Foot fans saying the haters wont give it an honest chance, I’ve listened to Bigfoot a dozen or so times…It is still mediocre and sounds like a song stuck in nuetral. If this is what passes for “great” rock nowadays, than that’s a pretty sad commentary on the state of rock an roll these days.

  • http://www.danwilhite.com Dan

Not sure what to think. Chicken dude freaks me out a bit! :) I hope Bevis and Butthead review this video on their new show.

  • timOthyj

Okay okay…too many of you sofa surfers are being toooo critical of this piece of art…
yea the guitar solo is a lil weak…
    BUT FUCK,
What has Van Halen came out with..?
Eddie I do respect you bud..But fuck get off the ego train.
Eddie..I actually had shots with u in Phx, 85.
    Anyways.
    Damn girl.
I remember ed saying something to mike about not being in 2 bands u cant do it..
    Well Chad is?
And he is still in in Chickenfoot..
    ED.
Bless your son but dont dick the mofo who got you to where you are.

  • Halen High

    Wilkster5150 says:
“@Halen High Whoa! Watch yourself bro. Nobody is to say one little critical thing about the “mighty” Chickenfoot.”

Well I noticed quite a few Sammy fans here don’t seem all that impressed with the song either – so I thought it was safe to give my two cents worth.

And surely they could have come up with a different name for the band. ‘Chickenfoot’ sounds so…….un-cool.

  • chrisom

The best part was the harmony where it says, “hands on the wheel and my feet full on the gas…”

That reminded me of some classic Van Halen chorus moments, which sadly will probably be noticeably missing on the new VH/DLR album..

Hope they can come up with something that sounds like that part, even though I am not a CF fan- I still give credit where it’s due. Good part there, Sam and Mikey… :)

  • Diamond Dean

its avg at best , its not led zeppilin ( yr got to stop comparing Sammy)

It sounds like a poor mans Mr big , Listen to MR BIGS UNDERTOW. It sounds flat , it sounds exactly like the last album , and oh yeah

Its typical Hagar when it comes to writing very very avg at best , He aint no EVH or Jani lane 4 that matter of fact , Listen to the new WARRANT you see what i mean, sounds great but has no substance n you will forget it in a months time .

Look its not terrible but it avg , its got that modern production which is pleasing to the ear , but lacks any real emotion or innovation

  • Diamond Dean

Hagar funny? ive never ever heard a funny thing come out of his mouth? not in interviews , not in concert? are their any referances???

  • Halen High

    Steve says:
“That’s got to be the dumbest video I’ve ever seen, except for the rack on the chick, that is. A man in a chicken suit, and Bigfoot? Come on…….”

    I agree. It’s pretty lame.

  • HALEN GOER

The negativity on this site is comical. You idiots don’t even understand the parody of the frickin video. If this tune is bad what the hell are you listening to these days that is lyricaly stimulating and so, so great. NOTHING!! I thought we got rid off you negative jack offs!

  • Carnal Knowlege

Halen High. You don’t like the song? Really? You don’t like the name of the band? Really? You don’t like the video? Gee, none of us on here would’ve known that. I’m absolutely shocked. Stunned. Flabbergasted. At a loss.

Why you waste your time on any post regarding Chickenfoot, or Sammy, or Mike, or Joe, or Chad is BEYOND ME!

Do you LIKE ANYTHING? Except Freddiegirl?

  • Adam

    Halen High,

I’ve read all your posts on vhnd, you’re one of the more vocal and opinionated people on here. You seem like the type of guy who, if you were on a walk in the park and saw someone having a picnic, you’d walk on up to them and piss all over their picnic.

Let people enjoy what they enjoy! You tirelessly try to make anyone who doesn’t feel just as you do feel stupid for liking what they like. It’s OKAY if someone likes Chickenfoot, or likes Sammy more than Dave. Why the hell are you so bothered by other people’s opinion? LET IT GO. You’re obsession with Hagar and trying to convince everyone that Hagar is inferior is reminding me of Roth_Leaps. You two do this more than anyone else on vhnd. The CVH legacy is not threatened by the projects that Hagar is involved in. You have nothing to worry about.

It seems like your part-time job is to go into any thread where people are expressing how they enjoy something from the Van Hagar years or Chickenfoot, and then you take a crap all over it. Is that really the type of person you want to be?

Hell, like you, I prefer Dave over Sammy, but unlike you I love Van Hagar and Chickenfoot, too. You don’t have to pick one singer and tirelessly knock the other one. No one cares what you think of Van Hagar. (And even if they DO care, they’ve already read you claiming it as inferior HUNDREDS of times. It’s overkill.) Relax, and let people enjoy what they want to enjoy, without needing to tell them they’re wrong.

  • HALEN GOER

    @ADAM & @CARNAL….right on!

  • Carnal Knowledge

    Cheers Goer and Adam

  • Gov13

Adam, Very true!! That was a great post. If more people conducted themselves like that, the conversation on this site would be so much better!

  • freddiegirl

Adam-You’re right that this is not a competition. But..let’s be honest; there’s a lot of Hagar fans as well as Dave fans that act like it is. I’m not a huge CF fan but I can admit this is a good song. No, it doesn’t knock me on my butt but I do love the breakdown and the second-half of the song where it starts to groove. And I love Mike’s backing vocals; there’s no denying he’ll be missed no matter how good the VH album is.

CK-Halen High likes more than just me; he likes CVH and now he appreciates Dancing in the Streets.. ;) Besides, if he weren’t here you’d start getting bored. He’s the other side of your coin just as Panama Red and Roth_Leaps are for each other as well.

I still can’t believe I’m the only person that thinks of Family Guy when I see that chicken!

  • chrisom

If the new VH album flops, can we go back and dub in some Mike Anthony “Aaawwwws…” in the chorus parts to see if it fixes it? We can still leave Wolfie’s parts in there too.

Aah, It’ll probably still be good. We hope.

  • Halen High

    Carnal Knowlege says:
“Halen High. You don’t like the song? Really? You don’t like the name of the band? Really? You don’t like the video? Gee, none of us on here would’ve known that….”

Did you notice ALL the others here who in this and other threads have said they don’t like the song? Gee, I wonder why you don’t acknowledge that. Trying to create the impression there’s only a couple of us?

You need to grow up and accept other people’s opinions.

  • Halen High

@ Adam – LOL! You attack me for having an opinion and then spend several minutes expressing yours.

I’m not intimidated by other people’s opinions – but clearly you are.

And I’m not trying to convince anyone of anything – if you like Hagar good fo you – but I have the right to give my views on him and his music, particularly on a VAN HALEN website. Just as many others are doing – again – I’m not the only one who doesn’t like this song or this video.

One more thing Mr Hypocrite – in threads about CVH and/or Dave, that have nothing to do with Hagar, we have Van Hagar fans talking about Hagar and slamming CVH and/or Dave – I’m sure you’ve noticed – interesting you don’t object to that.

  • Halen High

@ Carnal Knowlege – you didn’t answer my question: What’s with this band and all the chicken stuff?

  • Sparks in ’11? ’12? ever?

Everyone that posts here must realize by now that there are 20 or so different TYPES of VH fans in here. Never, I mean NEVER will all of the view points or opinions on a given topic be in full agreement with one another across the board. I have read and enjoyed all of Halen High’s posts because A. He is a knowledgable, well spoken fan and B. I agree with many of his OPINIONS. I don’t at all agree with the “piss on the picnic people” remark made by Adam, whom I also find to be on many occasions, a knowledgable, well spoken fan. Someone’s always trying to lay down an unwritten law of how you’re supposed to post in here. Hell, I may have even tried that a time or two, but let’s face it, arguing over others posting styles and view points is an execise in futility. If the topic were something like which VH logo do you like better, Classic or Hagar era, there’d be virtual bloody noses all over the thread by the seventeenth post! The perpetual squabbling will never end, but if it did, like Freddiegirl said, we’d all be snoring by now. Thanks primarily to the very band we are here to discuss in the first place. Life’s strange innit?

  • Halen High

Sparks in ’11? ’12? ever? says:
“I have read and enjoyed all of Halen High’s posts because A. He is a knowledgable, well spoken fan and B. I agree with many of his OPINIONS. Thankyou Sparks. Some Hagar fans have a chip on their shoulder due to the fact he gets criticised so much by so many. The fact is, this new song and his body of work should be impressive enough, to stand up to the scrutiny of all Van Halen fans and classic rock fans in general – not just groupies who worship everything he does no matter what.

Adam and a few others are clearly intimidated by views that don’t match theirs. If people are too sensitive to cop any negative opinion regarding Hagar, they should go hang out at his website.

Hey Wilkster5150 – you were right LOL!

  • Frankenfoot the Dumbo

Panama…Big Foot; seem rooted in the same style lyrically. Cars, whatever.

I find it strange that Sammy haters just come in and bash the video for the sake of bashing. Lest we forget that his book became a NYT Best Seller and Sammy has fans all across the country.

There are fans that thought Sammy was doing himself a disservice by joining Van Halen. The band was mismanaged and didn’t have any money. Sammy took a pay cut to join the band. Because he’s a business man, he helped dig Alex out of some bad biz deals and helped the band become very profitable and business like.

What would VH have done after Roth left other than choose Sammy? They had a good run. Sammy is a great vocalist and works with many musicians. So he’s a Jimmy Buffet of Rock. Who gives a shit.

The song is fun, the video is funny, the chick is hot, and the drummer is Satch’s son.

Go Foot…keep your Foot on the gas.

  • No Mas Tony

I like that Chickenfoot knows how to party, doesn’t take themselves too seriously and keeps their fans in the loop. This particular song is not my favorite off their new album (judging by the 90 sec samples on Itunes). BUT, the song still rocks and the video is funny. I AGREE, that all us posters commonly DISAGREE in matters of taste. But lets be honest, that some of the “hardcore” CVH fans that constantly fucking RAG on Sammy and everything the CF camp does… are really kinda jealous that VH hasn’t really done a damn thing since the reunion tour. And they feel the need to bash on Chickenfoot because they’re at least making music. Hey, if you don’t like it— FINE! But, I think you’re full of shit if you listen to all the songs on CFIII and say they all suck. Satch has the utmost respect for Eddie, as does Chad, as does Mikey and Sammy… well; he may need some more counseling. BUT, they’re not trying to be the next Van Halen. They’re just playing some straight-up bluesy classic rock. And I love the shit! You’re not any less of a Van Halen fan if you like some of the CF stuff. I’m not trying to be antagonistic here. Trust me, ever since 1996 when Dave walked on stage with the group at the VH music awards… I’ve wanted Diamond Dave back in the group… and it’s been bittersweet ever since. Yes, DAVE is back in the group! Woohoo! And I don’t expect an album every year or anything like that, but give me SOMETHING! I hope the bomb will be dropped on us soon.

  • Kayser Sozay

I usually agree all the way with Adam but in this instance do disagree with slamming Halen High. I agree Halen High goes out of his way to belittle Hagar at every opportunity but that’s his right. I don’t agree with him, so what? Often times his assertions about Hagar’s importance in rock are just plain wrong but perhaps completely logical for someone in Australia. I don’t know if Hagar is an unknown or completely uncared for quantity down under. Perhaps he is. I know my brother-in-law is an Aussie and thinks very highly of Hagar. Who’s to say who’s right? Hagar may be a nobody down under but I know that’s not the case in the US or lots of other parts of the world.

I certainly don’t compare him AT ALL to Roth Leaps, whose M.O. is to slam other people for liking Hagar. I’ve never once seen Halen High do that or tell other people how they should think. I think Halen High just prefers CVH but, unlike Leaps, isn’t threatened or bothered by the fact VH was a huge success with Hagar. I do think that like Leaps, Halen High just acts like that was never the case when it clearly was.

  • BrianMc

I love the video and the song. What is sad is all the depressed people on here that never ever say anything positive. The easiest thing do to in life is be negative. Sit behind your computer and complain and bitch because the mighty Van Halen hasn’t done anything but Sammy and the boys keep cranking out music, Who’s work ethic sucks? I don’t know what is worse for you people, Sammy getting all the attention or not knowing what is going on in the VH camp? All I do know is that it has made for a lot of unhappy, cranky, people who really need to get a life!! Their releasing the album on this date because….. or they are scared of this or that….. it’s like I am reading the thoughts of a bunch of kindergarteners! Get out a little bit and crank up some Fair Warning or something and relax and try to enjoy life a little. To many people on here that take this stuff way to seriously!!! Thank you VHND for keeping us up to date on ALL THINGS RELATING TO VAN HALEN.

  • Halen High

Kayser Sozay – thanks mate! I will agree to disgree with you regarding Van Hagar’s alleged success. Otherwise, your profile of me is pretty spot on.

I certainly don’t tell other people what artists they should or shouldn’t like and, after-all, two of my best mates are diehard Sammy lovers. Maybe some of the reactions here are a cultural thing. Aussies stir the shit out of each other, may even have a punch up – then can still laugh about it over a beer. Maybe Americans are generally more sensitive creatures – I dunno LOL!

As far as Sammy’s profile Down Under goes – the first time I had ever heard of him was when our radio played WCTBL for the first time. Now I was an avid Countdown fan (remember that show Aussies?) from the late 70s and was always listening to the radio – and I’d never heard of him until ’86. He’s just never had a profile here outside of fronting VH. I think his persona and music appeals to a niche American audience – hence the general lack of interest in him outside of the US. I’m still yet to hear a Sammy solo song on our radio and other Aussies here have said the same.

When he played Adelaide in about ’98, he played a pub here with only about 200-300 people attending. I didn’t go – my mates did – they had a good time.

“You need to grow up and accept other people’s opinions.”

Seriously Mr. Lecturer? I don’t give a flying fuck if people don’t like this song. It gets under my skin when people like you, who hate Hagar to begin with, explain WHY they don’t like it.

I don’t recall anybody asking why. So, don’t throw your opinions down our necks and then tell me I better grow up and accept it.

For the last time: WE KNOW YOU AND OTHERS HAVE PREDETERMINED HATRED FOR HAGAR. YOU DON’T HAVE TO EXPLAIN IT ANYMORE.

  • Brian

The problem I have is that the people that don’t like it don’t like Sammy. He could write the worlds best song and they would still hate it because he replaced the mighty DLR. If you hate him, you hate him. So I take all the haters with a grain of salt. They couldn’t be objective if the had to. If Roth did this video it would be the greatest thing since the radio. So I respect your opinion because I know were it is coming from. I just wish people would get over it already!!

  • jeff adams

Halen High, not only do I enjoy reading your posts, I agree w/ 99.9% of what you say. I don’t hate Sam by any means, no reason to cause I really don’t care, but it is pretty f’n funny when you slam him. You have got so far under that Carnal Knowledge dudes skin I think he’s ready to jump. I had to laugh when he tried to respond to you and said in one sentence he could give a fly’in fuck if people don’t like the song, and the next sentence he writes, it gets under his skin when people like you who hate Hagar blah, blah, blah. Well what is it, you don’t give a fly’in fuck, or it gets under your skin? Halen High, keep up the good work sir. Oh, gotta go “Runn’in w/ the Devil” just came on. WAAAAAAAA-HAA!
