Van Halen, Sammy Hagar featured in Eddie Trunk’s new book

Van Halen and Sammy Hagar are tow of the many bands featured in Eddie Trunk’s upcoming book, Eddie Trunk’s Essential Hard Rock and Heavy Metal.

We emailed Eddie and asked exactly how much VH & Hagar are featured. His response; “There are entire sections and lots of exclusive photos for both Van Halen and Sammy Hagar which includes Montrose, Chickenfoot, solo career, and Van Halen.”

The table of contents shows 8 pages on Van Halen and 6 pages on Hagar.

Known as a leading expert on all things hard rock and heavy metal, Eddie Trunk continues to entertain fans on the radio and as the host of VH1 Classic’s hit television program That Metal Show with his passion for music. In his debut book, Eddie discusses his most essential bands, his unique personal experiences with them, his favorite “Stump the Trunk” anecdotes and trivia, as well as his favorite playlists. Whether you’re a classic Metallica or Megadeth metalhead or prefer the hair metal of old-school Bon Jovi or Poison, Eddie Trunk’s Hard Rock and Heavy Metal salutes all who are ready to rock! By Eddie Trunk, foreword by Rob Halford.

    Can’t wait to have it.

  • alexandre

Eddie Trunk is a huge Van Halen fan (both eras)! He really knows what is good!!

  • Ted

    Sounds cool :)

  • Drew

This will be great, considering if you’ve ever read Rolling Stone Magazine’s Encyclopedia of Rock, it is very broad and leaves out a lot of good info and really doesn’t cover huge bits of metal. Between this and Sammy’s bio, I’m gonna need to get a new prescription for my eyes. Thanks for the update.

Should be a good read from a very knowledgeable guy who doesn’t seems to pick sides on any topic. He is a true fan and seems to be honest about every topic he mentions. Looking forward to this book and Sammy’s, also.

This will be a must read, without a doubt!

You know, something just occured to me and would’t it be wild if EVH got a book out about his entire life and career? Damn, that would be just great!

    OUT!!

  • Dr. Doctor

    Eddie Van Trunk!!!

  • gamby5150

not a big fan of the tv show . stump the trump is rigged . you always see the person reading the question to him . he had michael anthony on the show and the interview didn’t offer anything new or insightful …

  • Tom

I would love a proper VH biography done like “Walk this Way” or “The Dirt”.The band members, past and present, all have to contribute. As well as managers and anybody who has worked with the band or been close to them. That would be one hell of a book and the only way we could ever get close to the real truth behind the scenes

  • DiamondDean

These guys are savin hard rock n heavy metal , we salute you!
Great show as well , they come across as great guys

  • Tommy Boy

I want the poster behind them…

  • The REAL Top Jimmy

Eddie Trunk is an American Hero. Providing hope for all those poor souls that bong ripped their way through the 80′s and never had the chance to move out of their parents basement, that they one day will be successful too.

  • Rossiter

This is great news! I will be buying this book for sure!

My respect for Eddie grew when he defended Hagar on That Metal Show. The fact he mentioned Montrose in his argument cemented his credibility. Montrose should be in the Rock Hall of Fame for rock bands they influenced.

Look it up on youtube. The debate’s over who was the better replacement singer Brian Johnson of AC/DC or Sammy. Two were in favor of Brian and the other two which includes Eddie said Sammy.

I am a major, major AC/DC fan. So that was tough for me to decide. But I decided I enjoyed Sammy’s output with VH more.

I love the Back In Black album. But I’ve heard it so many times Im burnt out. And other than the Rick Rubin produced album, there’s little of Brian Johnson’s run with ac/dc I can truly enjoy.

I guess Im like a Roth army person in that I prefer Bon Scott with Ac/DC. Yet I can hear Sammy’s stuff with Halen and never get tired of it. But that could be aside from why cant this be love or BOBW, Van Hager doesnt get beaten to death in radio or bars.

Anyway, Eddie Trunks awesome. And speaking of autobiographies why cant we get one on Montrose? I would love to know all the behind the scenes on them.

Best quote I ever heard from Eddie Trunk:

“Apart from Led Zeppelin, there is not a more influential band than Van Halen”

100% truth being said right there……

  • Roth_Leaps_83

Sure hope the new album in 2011 kicks ass, but there’s only two things left to be done in Van Halen’s legendary career:

    1) Write a “tell-all” book that leaves no stone unturned. Make it just like Motley Crue’s “The Dirt” — where each current and former member of VH can dish out all the good, band, and the UGLY. I wanna hear about Eddie’s persistent coke habit, Dave fucking 5 groupies at a time back at the hotel, and Sammy bamboozling Eddie into writing a song about a Mexican bar!

    2) Put out a multi-DVD set of classic VH concert footage and raunchy backstage shenanigans. I know Ed got hours of that tasty shit in his vault —- RELEASE IT BEFORE HE DIES.

I was thinking the samething. WHERE CAN I GET THAT POSTER BEHIND THEM!!??

  • Herb

    LOL @ Roth Leaps 83

“Bamboozled” that’s a good one. Wish they were bamboozed in to about a hundred more of those kick ass type of songs.

  • http://vhnd.com 52yr old fan

We will never see a book from Eddie Van Halen. I don’t think he really remembers what went down over the years. Plus I wouldn’t know what to believe from him. He has contradicted himself so many times. Remember he has always said it was the singers fault. So maybe we should just leave things as they are so we all can remember the music and why we all like this band, whoever was or is the singer or bass player.

  • http://www.danwilhite.com Dan

Hey Tom, Have you checked out the VH bio “Everybody Wants Some”. It’s quite good. IMO

  • Cam Winston

…and Sammy bamboozling Eddie into writing a song about a Mexican bar!

Dude, the bar came years after the song was written. The “Cabo Wabo” in the song describes the staggering actions of drunken visitors to Cabo San Lucas…..they’re stumbling down the beach after having too much tequila, wobbling all over the place & therefore doing the “Cabo Wabo”.

    Face down in Cabo……get it?

BTW, if Eddie & Al hadn’t sold their shares in that “Mexican bar”, they’d be worth a *lot* more. :)

  • Rack of What?

Sammy didn’t ‘bamboozle’ anybody. He never changed who he was for Van Halen, and still hasn’t changed who he is. So, that being said, it must’ve been Eddie who changed, yet Sammy gets blamed.

Enough. It’s like being mad at JaMarcus Russel for the Raiders drafting him. Blame the ACTUAL person responsible…..Or, at least try

  • freddiegirl

Roth_Leap_83: I totally agree with you and Eddie Trunk about VH influencing a huge number of bands. I’ve always maintained that VH never got the credit they deserved or got bad credit for whole glam rock of the 80s. Even then there was some good stuff to be found in the 80s, Poison and Warrant notwithstanding. But…I don’t want a tell-all book from VH like Motley’s ‘The Dirt’. I have it an enjoyed it but there’s very little about the actual music. I’ve loved VH and had a crush on Ed ever since I was 8 years old. 8. I don’t want it tainted. I want VH to maintain the mystique they still have. I’ve always been grateful that Roth didn’t go down the Bret Michaels or Gene Simmons road with reality shows. Although I enjoyed ‘The Osbournes’ it did change how I saw Ozzy after that. I agree with 52yr old fan’s comment to ‘leave things as they are’ and just enjoy VH for the right reasons, the kick-ass music…whichever singer you prefer… ;)

Have talked to Eddie Trunk on the air and always tune into any program he may be on. He is one of the coolest dudes on the planet. How awesome would it be to be his friend and shoot the bull about metal/rock? You are a class act Mr. Trunk. Salute!!!

  • Roth_Leaps_83

    Freddiegirl —

Yeah, VH never seems to get enough credit for the big influence they’ve had on other artists but I think that’s been changing the past few years with all these informal polls on “Best Guitarist Ever” and “Best Guitar Solo of All Time” and the Frankenstrat getting into the Smithsonian. There’s no arguing the point that VH is probably the greatest American rock band of all time.

I know where you’re coming from regarding keeping the mystique of Van Halen intact by not releasing a tell-all book like “The Dirt”, but I thought it might be a good idea since Valerie went low-brow and aired all her dirty laundry regarding her marriage to Eddie. We’ve never heard much from Ed about reflections on his own life, so maybe a book would provide some insight we’ve never heard before. To be honest, I’d just love to hear Edward say some nice things about Dave since it’s been 99% negative from all the interviews I ever read.

I agree with you about Dave not doing a reality show. He actually commented on that a few years back and said he wouldnt do one because people simply wouldnt believe what they were seeing as his daily life and presume he’s just making it up for the show. Dave lives a very colorful life that most of us cant even begin to understand or appreciate. ;-)

  • freddiegirl

Roth_Leaps_83: I agree. Ed’d guitar deserves to be in the Smithsonian and I’ve always said that they were the best band America’s produced. Including Aerosmith.

I forgot about Valerie’s book; I try to forget that I read bits of it when my sister bought it… >__< Ya know? I'd love a book maybe about Ed's side of the story but I don't think it could happen without all the guys degenerating into name-calling althouth in the last interview I read with Ed in the Guitar World collected interviews he did say some nice things about Dave.. ;) I won't spoil them so you can read them yourself… :)

I believe Dave when he says people would say he was making things up; he's an interesting guy!

  • Sparks on the Horizon!!!

I remember Ed was working on an autobiographty with a guy who frequently interviewed him in Guitar World. I think his name was Steve Rosen. Not sure about the first name, but I even remember Ed saying the book would be called “The First Ten Years”. I have all of those mags from back when he was on the cover every month. Think it’s time to dig ‘em outta the garage and read them all again. I’m definitely thinking way too hard about this band right now. That’s what I call powerful stuff! There’s nothing in the music world that’s as interesting to study or speculate about. Nothing.
