Kayser Sozay, have to agree with you. Its a bit of a vicious cycle and has been since Gary left I think. In my opinion, it doesn’t matter what happened with the MTV thing, Eddie showed a lot of respect to fans by playing countries like Australia and expanding the touring circuit a bit.

However, this was also amid a media storm of a lot of blame being exchanged between the band and Hagar, a lot of rumours that led to nothing over Roth coming back, and the (then) current thoughts on VH3 and Gary as a singer. Eddie somehow managed to keep his head above water. But since then seems to have taken a vow of silence, almost as if, as you said, the bitching that went on about VH3 we’re now being punished for.

Eddie doesn’t release anything new because we’ll just bitch about it or download it illegally. We then bitch because Eddie hasn’t released any new music.

But, on the other hand, as you said I’d be absolutely fine if Eddie said “I want to spend some time with my new wife, fix my son up with some bands and some recording time, and just take it easy”. I’d say “Thanks Eddie, you’re a brilliant guy and an inspiration for musicians everywhere”. But he doesn’t say anything concrete.

I’ve also come to realise Eddie seems to be good friends with guitar players in bands who have had different lead singers like VH. Take Lukather, Iommi and Cantrell. They’ve all had different singers in their bands and they’re all on pretty great terms with Eddie. I guess as you said they’ve all made it work just as well as Eddie did too.

Lupercal & Kayser Sozay- I agree with both of your reactions to my short but sweet zinger. Had I elaborated, I would have just voiced the frustration that we all have in common with the prolonged periods of silence. The saying “no news is good news” most definitely does not apply here. I’m still annoyed that nothing ever came of the recording DLR and VH did back in 2000 or ’02. Dave had posted how great that stuff was sounding and then that fell apart without so much as a song title to ponder. I still want to hear what the demos for the 2nd try with Cherone were like. They posted like 10 song titles for that effort. One thing that I find above all else most annoying is the whole “work ethic” thing. Back in ’96 when Ed gave the interview warning that Dave had better be wearing a cup next time, he said if Sam wanted to be here, he’d be here and that he had a poor work ethic. All I can say to that is if that statement was true back then, the shoe is definitely on the other foot now. No pun intended. I just want the band we all have come to love so much to shut us all up with some new music. I honestly don’t care about seeing them live again. I would trade the live aspect for loads of stuff to cram in my ears any day.

Getting on with a few of the Sam Vs Dave comments, 2004 tour grossed 54 Million Vs 07-08 93 Million with less dates.

Van halens peak was in 1984, Album sales wise it sold 5.5 Million in one year vs 3 Million for 5150 in one year.

Van Halen 1984 tour was the biggest tour they ever did and was the height of the bands career as far as album sales and Tickets sold.

Its gets old hearing they had more Number 1 albums with Sam even though those albums sold less than 1984

Sam was good in Van Halen but with Roth the Band was better the music was better and most people prefer the Roth years.

I thought Mike did a good job in the interview and I wish has in the band.

    Nuff said

@Just Van Halen…when do we compare solo roths numbers against the van hagar albums from the same year…5150 vs eat em and smile,OU812 vs skyscraper,F.U.C.K. vs what ever album dave put out that year and if there were more solo dave albums them against Balance.seems dave is only “the man” with eddie by his side.it seems fair since they are parallel with each other.

Here is how we should compare Roth and Hagar!

Roth is the crazy girl who did everything sexually you have ever wanted in a girl!

Sammy is the girl you settle down with and have a family and kids and live a great life.

Sure we all like the crazy girl who swallows, takes it up the keester, and so on, but in the end, we know that era has died because we get older and mature.

Van Halen matured with Sammy and that’s why the music as some say isn’t that great and sounds dated as some also say on here.

The bottom line here is that 4 guys from 1978-1985 made great music!

4 guys from 1985-1996 made great music!

In the end it’s all good and Eddie calls the shots. I agree that Eddie should just say hey it’s been fun and call it a career.

As for the number 1 albums to Just Van Halen, it does matter because out of all the acts in those years that put out an album, Van Halen’s went to number 1 for a reason and that’s simply because the fans wanted it more than before. It doesn’t matter what sold more, what matters is fans wanted the music with Sammy and recognized it was a great product. If it was so bad as Dirty Duck and others have said, then Eddie is a piece of crap loser who made 4 albums that he wanted to make and forced Mike, Sammy, and Alex to go along with. Nope not it! Eddie like all musicians got tired of the hard stuff and wanted to change and he did.

Is Slayer better than Metallica because they still play hard? Nope because why? It’s because Metallica set the bar that all those other bands followed and Metallica tried new shit. Was it good? Not all of it and look what they did recently with Death Magnetic. It kicked ass because they knew if it didn’t, they were done.

Eddie as far as I’m concerned has nothing left to prove and in the tank. He knows it and as history has shown us, for the past 14 years, he’s released 5 songs and toured twice.

Fear of a Sparkles writes “I’m still annoyed that nothing ever came of the recording DLR and VH did back in 2000 or ’02. Dave had posted how great that stuff was sounding and then that fell apart without so much as a song title to ponder.“

Well, it wouldn´t suprise me if some of that lost stuff with Dave was on the new album, that is if there is a new album. Of course, we won´t have anyway of knowing if some of the new stuff is really the old stuff! lol That is unless it gets leaked that it´s some of the songs they recorded with Dave way back when.

I´m liks so many of you, hoping for new music! I have read that if Eddie read the negative crap on here we would never get a new album. Well, in my opinion a lot of those negative posts are out of frustration. Some, if not most of the folks who write the negative posts do still really care about the Mighty Van Halen and geninuely want to hear from them again!!!!!!! I happen to be one of those individuals.

Any one notice on the VH1 Rock-n-Roll Fantasy Camp when MA was talking 2 one of the bands the Female guitar player was playing a E.V.H Wolfgang guitar. Poor Mikey can’t get away from Eddie. Just thought it was a little ironic.
