It’s 1977 and David Lee Roth & Eddie Van Halen are trying to convince Doobie Brothers producer Ted Templeman to produce their album. (The VH segment starts abruptly exactly 40 seconds into the video).

    I just realized I’ve never seen a photo of Ted Templeman in my entire life…..being the famed producer of the legendary Roth-era Van Halen albums, he’s more elusive than the Sasquatch. Does he even exist?

    Roth-aholic… Yeah, this talk about Templeman and the late Landee made me wonder, too.     That was funny how they showed the power of VH to Ted who was producing pussy stuff like the Doobie Brothers. Even though Templeman did produce Montrose first album. I agree with Mark. More Ed! More Alex! More Dave! More of the other guy! Lol! I feel bad of Mike.

    Hey Dan — thanks for those links…..glad to see Ted Templeman is an actual person and not just a ghost. Hard to believe the same guy produced both the ultra-lame Doobie Bros. and the mighty VH.

    BTW, what do you all think if Mutt Lange produced the first six Halen albums? I know some people dont like Lange’s sound because it’s too overdubbed and polished, but you cant deny that he produced some of the biggest rock albums of all time (AC/DC Back in Black, Def Leppard’s Pyromania and Hysteria). At the very least, he would have added a lot of bottem end to those Dave-era records because that’s the only flaw in those masterpieces.

    Thank you!! I thought I was the only one who thought the drums and bass on Van Halen’s first couple albums seems absent!! They should remix those albums with ultra bass!!
