Chickenfoot: Second album update & new video

Lots of Chickenfoot news lately:

1) Second album update from Reuters.com:

Chickenfoot steps toward second album

DETROIT (Billboard) – Its all-star members may be working on other projects — the new Red Hot Chili Peppers album for Chad Smith, solo sets for Sammy Hagar and Joe Satriani — but Chickenfoot has already started work on its sophomore album.

“This time around it doesn’t seem too scary to try to pull it off,” guitarist Satriani says. “We know we’ve done it once. The whole scheduling thing doesn’t scare us like it did last time. We’re more relaxed about the fact everyone has got crazy schedules and know that when we do get together, it’s really fun.”

The quartet, which also includes former Van Halen bassist Michael Anthony, had a “very productive” session in April, before the launch party for the group’s concert DVD, “Get Your Buzz On Live,” at Hagar’s Cabo Wabo Cantina in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico.

Chickenfoot will spend most of September working on the album, then reconvene in late January and early February for “wrap-up sessions,” with a spring 2011 release planned, again via Best Buy.

Satriani says he expects to have “probably 20 (more) songs to lay on everybody when we get together again.” A producer hasn’t yet been chosen for the album, but Andy Johns and Mike Fraser, who both worked on 2008′s “Chickenfoot” debut, are leading candidates.

2) New show announced – Sept 11, 2010 at Harvey’s Lake Tahoe. This will probably be their last show of 2010.

3) Cabo Webcast video archives: Four songs from the May 2010 Cabo Wabo show are now available for your streaming enjoyment (standard or high def). If you want to go full screen follow the link in the bottom right since Facebook blocks that. Watch them here.

The four songs are: Soap On A Rope, Sexy Little Thing, My Kinda Girl, and Oh Yeah!

4) Chickenfoot’s new video:

Haven’t checked out the new music video for “My Kinda Girl” yet?

And while we’re at it, a short clip of Chad Smith asking people about Chickenfoot:

  • Herb

Sweet…this should stir up some intelligent debate.

  • Michael C.

I bet we’ll see the new Chickenfoot album before we see anything from VH.

  • Scottso

Would love to have both a new Chickenfoot AND Van Halen sometime soon! Best of Both Worlds, baby!!

  • Matteau23

Yeah before this spirals downward into the usual.. I wanna go on record agreeing with Scottso. I for one would love to see a new record from both bands. Hey, its a holiday weekend coming up.. what can I say.. i’m in an overly optimistic mood..

  • daveman5150

I agree with Michael C. There is (I’ll say “almost”) no chance that VH will release an album before Chickenfoot releases their new material.

The funny thing is that, if you read the article thoroughly, you’ll notice that Sammy has his own band (and is going to release a new album), Satriani is going to release a solo effort, and Chad Smith has been working with RHCP to release a new band (a.k.a. he has his own band too), yet they STILL find the time to work on a new Chickenfoot album. The only reason I bring this up is because Eddie Van Halen has Van Halen and that’s it, yet, he hasn’t been able to release a new album in since 2004 (if you consider a new album to be “BOBW”), or 1998 (if you consider a new album to be “VHIII”). 6 years or 12 years respectively to put out a new album.

Chickenfoot has not only gone on record as saying “we have some new material”, but now they’re giving us a tentative release date for their new material. Van Halen apparently has some new material, but do we have a release date for anything? Chickenfoot members: Busy as hell with other projects, yet they still find the time… Van Halen members: Not busy as hell with other projects, and they release nothing…

I’m not hating on Van Halen. I love Van Halen. I just find that hilarious.

  • SCAR

Hmmmmm, the Mighty VH late 10, the Foot spring 11, it’s gonna be a long fucking party……………say what you feel haters, but your gonna fucking miss out on a wild fucking ride!!!!!! Shit, I hope I didn’t offended some uptight putz by say the F word a few times. Ah fuck it!!!!!!!!!

  • lucky

As much as I like some of the Chicken’s songs, My Kinda Girl is on one of the weaker songs. But then once you’ve burned through the good ones, ya got to get to the b rated ones eventually.

Would I like to hear another CFoot album? I’d much rather hear a new VH album before that, though 12 years of waiting around is about odd.

  • Adrian

Spammy and co. are just tryin to prove that they can release twice the amount in the time it takes VH to get there act together… Certainly doesn’t mean either album is worth a shit… I thought the debut was pitiful is anyone honestly gonna listen to that more than once or twice? Quality over Quantity

  • Mike

Like daveman, I don’t intend to hate on VH and simply offer a related observation (which I’m sure has been brought up before).

If we get to fall 2011 and VH has not released a new album, it will have been 13 1/2 years since VH3. 9 of the 11 past studio albums were released within less than a 13 1/2 year period.

If we get to early 2012 and VH has not released a new album, and if we pretend VH3 never happened (since the band does as much on BOBW…), it will have been 17 years since the band’s last studio album. That’s the same amount of time in which the band’s the entire past catalog was released (again, if you pretend VH3 never happened).

Yes, there have been reasons for the long delay. But when the band hints on their website that they’re still a functional unit and almost half a year later there’s still crickets, you have to wonder. Someone once commented that the reality is likely that, just like in 1985, Dave and EVH are on different planes creatively, and Dave’s not able to write to the music EVH has come up with. The “reunion” tour happening was huge, yes, but rehashing the classics isn’t the same as coming up with vital new material.

  • Herb

@ Adrian: Yes at least one person (me) listened more than once disproving your moronic rhetorical question.

You’re an idiot. Go away, never to return. Seriously.

  • D.O.A.

Herb, you’re like the crotchety old man of the neighborhood here on VHND. And I gotta say, sometimes I just dig that about you!

  • Alex Han Valen

Chad’s promo video is really funny.

  • Ron

I’m with Herb on this one. I’ve been listening to the CF album since it came out, much more than once or twice.

@Adrian – You really think the reason CF is putting out a second album is to prove something to VH?

    Herb’s right – you’re an idiot.

  • http://www.vhnd.com Pat G.

I think hell will have truly frozen over before we get anything new from VH. At least the former members are productive and releasing music (Sam, Gary, and Mike) as oppposed to the current line-up. It is a damn shame that VH is sitting on their hands and not doing a damn thing as far as new music. Eddie is pimping his guitar crap and nothing else. Plug that shit in and give us something new. I’m not hating on VH, either, but my patience is just about run out and I am starting not to give a shit anymore about VH or anything they do. A new album would go along way to get my respect back and alot of other fans, as well.

  • daveman5150

I think that CF is putting an album out because they want to make music.

Personally, I like the CF album, but to retort Adrian’s post… Quality over Quantity. I’d rather have Quantity over Nothing. Ok, is CF groundbreaking? No, it isn’t. Is Sammy’s music groundbreaking? No, it isn’t either. That doesn’t mean that I don’t like it, though.

If Sammy comes out with an album every 2 years or so (which has been the habit), and we get 2-3 good, solid songs on each album, that’s still more than the nothing that Van Halen has been releasing. Even if Van Halen DID release an album that was stellar (and we all know what the likelihood of that is (reference – VH3 – as the last effort), Sammy Hagar is still better because he has released 2-3 good songs every other year since 1996, so what, we now have somewhere around 16 (ish) really good, memorable songs from Sammy Hagar (I personally think that it’s more than that, but let’s be generous to the haters out there). 16 good songs is more than the 11 (if they are stellar) that we’ll get out of a VH Album – the first in 12 years.

Quality over Quantity. I’d take any kind of activity at all. Sammy tours, Sammy produces music, Sammy gets involved in new bands. What does Van Halen have? New shirts with bombers on them (BLAH!).

  • jim

Adrian – I agree with you.

The only thing Chickenfoot fans can argue and win is that they’ve put out more music the VH and that Chickenfoot specializes in customer service.

Seriously everybody.. You are actually comparing Chickenfoot with VH. I said it before that just the thought alone of possible new VH music is better than anything Chickenfoot can ever do. The Chickenfoot album was nothing special at all. If VH released something like that, they’d be strongly criticized. Meanwhile Chickenfoot releases it and is viewed as the best thing since sliced bread. I didn’t think it was as good as Sammy Solo or Sammy and the Waboritas.
The thing is… VH with sammy were awesome. The only difference between that and Chickenfoot are Al and Ed. By seeing what Chickenfoot puts out there only proves how far superior Al and Ed are and what a difference they make. The other possibility is that Chickenfoot are rushing to release anything instead of putting out solid material.

  • D.O.A.

Jim nobody is remotely trying to compare the music you donk. VH doesn’t need another big brother, so just chill out.

  • daveman5150

Oh yeah, I forgot to list a few Post-VH songs my Sam…

    Little White Lies
    Salvation on Sand Hill
    On The Other Hand
    Both Sides Now
    Mas Tequila
    Shag
    Red Voodoo
    Don’t Fight It
    Shaka Doobie
    Serious Juju
    3 In The Middle
    Tropic of Capricorn
    Hallelujah
    Things’ve Changed
    The Big Nail
    Living on a Coastline
    Sailin
    Some Day
    Loud

That’s over 16 and there are more of em too..

  • Pete

HERB…that was really funny man…good post.

Chickenfoot has done it, is doing it, and will do it again. They are a working band, and they give you some great shit to cheer for. What more could I want? A new VH album? That would be great too.

  • http://vhnd.com 51yr old fan

I’M STILL CONFUSED ON WHY SOME PEOPLE HATE ON CHICKENFOOT JUST BECAUSE THEY PUT OUT SOME NEW MUSIC THAT MOST OF THE FANS ON THIS SIGHT SEEM TO LIKE. I GUESS IF SOME OF YOU KEEP SAYING NEW STUFF WILL BE OUT BY VH LONG ENOUGH IT MIGHT JUST COME TRUE. I DO HAVE ONE QUESTION FOR THE CF HATERS, DID YOU GUYS BUY THE CD AND WHY IF YOU DID. IF YOU DID, I BELIEVE THAT NO MATTER WHAT, YOU WERE GOING TO DISLIKE IT. AND I THINK I CAN SPEAK FOR EVERY CF FAN HERE, NO ONE IS COMPARING THEM TO VH. WE JUST LIKE THE BAND AND THE MUSIC.

  • Herb

Jim you are delusional. Ed is superior to YOU as a guitar player, not Joe. Better? Most people, including me would probably say so. Alex is fabulous, and a superior drummer to ME. Superior to Chad? Not so much. VH superior to Chickenfoot? Of course. One of the most influential rock bands of all time. Fergawdsake any 10 year old kid knows that.

Take your VH “superiority complex” and go piss it around someplace else. I think most everyone here gets it already in case you didn’t notice.

  • Herb

DOA: I’ll take that as a backhanded compliment. But if that ball of yours lands in my yard one more time, I’m keeping it. And turn that music down damnit.

  • Fat Cat

    @51yr old fan

Get those readers out!!! You had 2 people say something negative towards the CF album and 4 negative (5 if you include your’s) post about VH when this isn’t even a VH story!

So instead of being part of the problem how about posting this to be part of the solution:

I LOVE CF! LOOKING FORWARD TO THE DVD AND NEW ALBUM!!
(and leaving VH out of it since it’s not a story about them)?!

  • =VH=OZ

This debate of Chickenshit & Van Halen’s album count/productivity to date, I put it in this (light hearted) perspective!

This is like comparing goal scoring to Basketball & Soccer, yeah sure you might get 100+ goals in a basketball match than maybe 2 or 4 goals in soccer match, but what soccer has over basketball and why it’s the most popular around the world is you’ll remember that 1 or 2 goals in a soccer match than the 100+ in basketball.

So with this in mind Van Halen only releases quality!! They don’t release for quantity, as is the case for Sammy and his Chickenfoot project. It’s all for there to see that Sam’s only doing this for to get back at Eddie. Van Halen have proven it time and time again that when they release an album it has longevity and stands the test of time. I mean we’re still analysing Van Halen 1 and 1984 and those two albums were released over 20+ years ago!!! Enuff said!!

  • pushtoshove

First comment: Why in the world would Eddie let any thing post here against him that he didn’t like?? ( I:E- chickenfoot news ) Two: VH 3 is a great album….It is well thought out and very good…no wonder Ed is against releasing new material…all you haters will shoot it down!!!!

  • papichulo

It still puzzles me to compare the two bands. Chickenfoot will never be like VH so whats the point in tearing them apart? I do however disagree with EVH in the Guitar World interview with Iommi where he said about maybe not releasing anything if nobody is gonna like it. Release anything with DLR and it will destroy. I actually hope EVH is pissed off at DLR so maybe he will write like he did in Fair Warning.

  • halenguy51

Say what you want but the CF cd blows ass! Except for my kinda girl, and it’s funny it’s the one that sounds just like van halen the most..hummmm funny. Sammy is a fucking joke without VH face it. Trust me I was stupid and shelled out the money for every one of his new cd’s hoping they would be good THEY ALL SUCK! Not marching to mars that one rocks! Then I get a little hope when I hear sammy say his new
“SUPER GROUP” is so good and the music is so great it will rival Led Zeppelin! (really sammy?.. led zeppelin?..really?) So I think fuck yes here we go, I go out and buy it and..it sucks shit so bad I give it away. Then I see the vid for MKG, and what do I see but a cheap rehash of the right now and don’t tell me what love can do vid’s! What I don’t get is if Sammy “I wish I was jimmy buffett” Hagar is so over and better than VH why then is he still trying to copy shit he did with them?

  • Remember the Prom Queen

Gotta love the ‘foot! I suspect their sophomore effort will be just dandy!

Don’t forget that VH will be touring this year. There’s been no retraction from Irving Azoff regarding his comment last year about VH hitting the road this year as far as I know.

  • halenguy51

Come on people face it if not for Van Halen, the only time we would ever hear or see from Sammy is on VH1 remember the 80′s or where are they now. Not only being featured on there but sitting on the panel along side Weird Al and that creepy ass comic with the bug eyes and huge gap in his teeth, Yeah you know the one don’t lie.

  • SuckMyKiss

how the hell do you not know who chickenfoot is?

  • Joe

Hmmm, let’s see….it seems that at times people are thinking that Sammy was nothing without Eddie…PRIOR to VH, there was Montrose & HSAS, his own albums VOA and Standing Hampton.
Daveman has it right on some great songs post VH. These were solo and now another CF album.
Eddie only put out NEW music with Sammy…the three songs on the compilation. Even with Dave back, there weren’t any new songs. Oh sorry, forgot about the porn movie. HMMMMMM.

  • Hey Man, That Suit Is You!

If VH never releases new music, will the haters eventually leave this site? Just a thought…

Van Halen owes us nothing. Maybe they have retired on the wealth of music they have given us from ’78 to ’04. Everyone deserves to quit working at some point. My dad retired 10 years ago and he never updates me on the work he is never gonna complete.

  • Shawn

Opinions are like assholes and vhnd definitely has one or two that just can’t keep from passing their gas.

    Long live the Foot!

  • chris.omeara

I love Satriani’s playing, but it might be nice if they told him for at least during the recording he should only use an old Gibson played thru an old Marshall, with some basic echo and maybe wah like the old schoolers did and save the super high tech sound for on the road… A little bit rawer sound for the second album. Think: Led Zep II…

  • Karl

Looking forward to another CF album (if the first is anything to go by the second will blow us out of the water) and hope that VH are beavering away too. We need both band doing the business!

  • http://vhnd.com surfthis!!

im not so sure the current line up of van halen or anything since the middle of the 90s is really any good

seriously man i am saying chickenfoot is better than VH post balance.

man balance had some killer tone
even with roth on board in 96 we would have had a hell of an album now we will get some crap with wolfie on backup

  • http://vhnd.com surfthis!!

i dont see how you can even classify van halen as an active band until they release new material.

  • Little Dreamer

daveman5150 says: The only reason I bring this up is because Eddie Van Halen has Van Halen and that’s it…

Wrong! He has DLR, the most interesting man in the world! A man who lives vicariously…through himself!

jim says: If VH released something like that, they’d be strongly criticized.

Wanna bet? If VH released the CF album there would be a lot of praise just for a listenable set of songs.

  • ImTheOne

Fat Cat – you nailed it bro! Show them hypocrites the truth. Herb – You are delusional not Jim. EVH is probably the most groundbreaking and influential guitarist in history with 6 classic albums under his belt the songs of which held up for 25 years and probably will still be cheered to in 25 years. Who the f… is Satch??? An excellent post-VH technician at best. To all the people loosing “respect” and “interest” in VH, nobody cares about your “opinion”! Yeah right, you will “not listen” to new material of VH when it comes out. Losers.

  • http://vhnd.com 51yr old fan

FAT CAT YOU SEEM TO BE ONE OF THOSE GUYS THAT HAS A TOUGH TIME UNDERSTANDING. I WILL TYPE SLOW SO YOU CAN UNDERSTAND. FIRST OF ALL THE SITE IS ABOUT VH, CF, SAMMY AND ANYTHING VH RELATED. I DON’T CARE WHAT THE ARTICLE IS ABOUT SOMEONE ALWAYS COMES ON HERE AND BASHES CF AND CLAIMS THAT US FANS ARE COMPARING THE 2 BANDS. WE ARE NOT. THERE IS ONLY 1 VH. AND SOME IDIOT ALWAYS SAYS CF IS RELEASING MUSIC TO ONE-UP VH OR TO MAKE THEM LOOK BAD. ITS JUST MUSIC. YOU LIKE WHO YOU LIKE. AND I’M NOT JUST TALKING ABOUT THIS ARTICLE I’M TALKING ABOUT ANYTHING CF. AS FAR AS I CAN TELL WE ALL LIKE VH AND SOME OF US LIKE CF. DOESN’T SEEM TO BE TO TOUGH TO UNDERSTAND.

  • http://vhnd.com 51yr old fan

AND ONE MORE THING FAT CAT, NOW READ CAREFULLY. THE CF HATERS ARE THE ONE THAT MAKE EVERY STORY ON HERE ABOUT VH OR SOME KIND OF RIVALRY BETWEN THE BANDS. I HATE TO BREAK IT TO YOU BUT IT’S POSSIBLE THERE IS NO MORE VH.WE ALL MAY HAVE TO FACE IT. AND IF YOU ARE ONE OF THOSE GUYS WHO SAY WE ALREADY HAVE GREAT MUSIC AND IF ED DOESN’T WANT TO RELEASE NEW STUFF HE DOESN’T HAVE TO THEN ACCEPT IT AND KEEP LISTENING. THERE IS NOTHING BETTER THAN CLASSIC VH. ALL I HAVE TO SAY AGAIN IS CF IS JUST DOING WHAT ALL THE HARDCORE VH FANS WANT. NEW MUSIC AND UPDATING THE FANS. THAT DOESN’T SEEM TO BE SO HARD FOR A BAND THAT IS ACTIVE.

  • Keith

Love the song … Love the Band !!!

  • jim

    51yr old fan,

Kind of like what Fat Cat said, the reason people hate on CF is because on CF topics, everyone rags on VH big time. On the VH topics, rarely anybody rags on CF. I don’t really understand why that is. The only thing I can come up with is that CF fans think CF is better that VH and they are mad at VH because of all the success VH has had. To help their argument, they claim that CF is better because VH hasn’t released new music over the years and that VH stays away from the media and will only release news when they have news.
I don’t see that it has anything to do with Sammy vs Dave.

  • John

Scar, you always have and always will have the right attitude. It’s all good.

  • Karl

    jim says:

“Seriously everybody.. You are actually comparing Chickenfoot with VH.”

No Jim, you’re the one doing that. The rest of us are just getting on and enjoying the music and not playing infantile team games.

  • Lupercal

    @ Jim

“If VH released something like that, they’d be strongly criticized.”

So you’re saying if VH released another Gold album full of good material it would be “strongly criticised”?

You could argue they did that with VH3, but to get a Gold Record when people download and torrent it is pretty impressive and it shows that people haven’t given up on that vintage rock sound.

Looking forward to a new CF album and maybe they’ll come down to the UK again – Van Halen haven’t been to Britain in 15 years!

I love VH but these comparisons and whiners are a joke.

  • Matteau23

I actually think Herb hit the nail on the head. While i would never.. NEVER.. compare Chickenfoot to classic VH (and by classic I mean up to and including Balance). Chickenfoot really is a super talented band and just might be every bit as good today as any new incarnation of VH we’d get now.

I mean think about this logically. I love EVH.. he is the greatest guitarist alive. Hands down. No questions asked.

But that is based on what he’s done in the past. What would he sound like writing and recording today? We have no idea. Would he still “have it”?? I hope so.. but who knows??

Satriani might be the 2nd or 3rd greatest guitarist alive right now quite honestly. In fact, I think he’s quite underrated to most of us because we are die hard fans of the greatest in EVH. Unless Ed comes out with a killer album and blows him out of the water, we can only go by what we have right now.

Alex Van Halen.. great drummer. Extremely underrated rock drummer if you ask me. But is he really better than Chad Smith? I think they’re pretty much equals actually. Chad Smith is a brilliant drummer and part of the backbone of a super successful band in the Chili Peppers. People tend to gloss over that in my opinion.

Michael Anthony is a wash when you compare CF to the VH we’ve alredy heard.. since, well he played bass and sang backup for both bands. But looking at it today, can Wolfie compare to Mikey’s accomplishments? Definitely not. Plus MA is WAYYY further up in the mix with CF than he has been for some time.. which in my opinion is a good thing.

So at best this comparison so far is a wash. What this really comes down to is Dave vs. Sammy. Granted a new VH album with Dave would be killer. His persona alone would give it cache and credibility. But Sammy is no slouch either. To me its a matter of preference here, and I happen to like both Sammy and Dave.

    Just my two cents anyway..

  • daveman5150

To Little Dreamer… I said that EVH only has Van Halen, and you corrected me by saying that EVH also had DLR. Wow, that is a great argument. DLR is, let’s see, part of Van Halen. Oh yeah, I forgot about that.

Let’s turn the argument on its ear. Who was DLR before Van Halen? Nothing (and that is a FACT). Who was DLR after Van Halen? DLR was a lounge singer after Van Halen, and he released (only) 2 Platinum Albums (of course, on the heels of getting kicked out of Van Halen). DLR may have a personality to boot, but that isn’t something that’s Non-Van Halen. EVH ONLY HAS VAN HALEN AND THAT’S IT!!!

Sammy, on the other hand, before Van Halen, was in a small band called Montrose. Sammy Hagar had 3 Platinum Albums before joining Van Halen.

This, of course, doesn’t mean that Sammy Hagar is better than David Lee Roth. Sammy Hagar and David Lee Roth are DIFFERENT – and there really is no comparison between the two, other than that they both held the lead singer position in Van Halen for a period of time.

But, allow me to revert. Like I said before… EVH ONLY HAS VAN HALEN, while Sammy Hagar has other things going on (interesting or not), and that was the entire point. Sammy produces new material, and EVH doesn’t. Period!

Last thing – about the guys who are loving on VH3. Are you guys crazy? That album is trash. It didn’t fail because of Torrents. Van Halen 3 was released in 1998. The internet was still in its infancy in 1998, and while torrent-like webpages existed, they weren’t nearly as prominent as they are today. VH3 failed because it’s terrible. The fans didn’t like the album. If you remember the tour, the VH3 tour didn’t really feature a lot of songs from the album that they were supporting – not because the “fans” wanted to hear old-school DLR music, or because we wanted to hear “Humans Being” performed live (finally). They didn’t perform much music from that album because the album isn’t good.

Van Halen 3 is like Godfather 3. Godfather 1 and 2 are masterpieces (in their own right), and Godfather 3 sucks. Even if you watch Godfather 3 without considering the first 2 movies, Godfather 3 still sucks. Van Halen 3 is not good. Van Halen (everything else) IS good – and it’s classic and timeless to boot! Van Halen 3 – I defy anyone to find Van Halen 3 in their CD rotation list (at least anyone with ears or taste).

  • bpd_103

I gotta chime in here on the Chickenfoot stuff. Yeah, I agree the studio album is kinda lame, but only because of the juvenile lyrics and I don’t care for the production. BUT! Being a Joe Satriani fan, the live DVD was KILLER! Hearing Joe finally being able to relax and cut loose because he doesn’t have to carry the show was well worth it! (Except for hearing Sammy yell “Smoke!” over Joe’s playing.) Will the next CD be kinda goofy? Probably, but it’ll get us that much closer to the next tour and live DVD.

Sammy’s best days were with VH, so I don’t care which singer they get. I’m afraid Dave can’t really sing anymore, and they really should make nice (like they said in the Metal Show clip) with Mike. They really treated him like crap. I’m afraid the VH vibe is gone, and that’s why there’s no new music. Unless they can get it back, I’ll settle for old VH and new Chickenfoot. Eddie would be making a mistake to make a record for the record’s sake.

P.S. Mike was as much a part of VH as any of them.

  • Panama Red

I LOVED about half of the songs on Chickenfoot’s debut album so I’m really looking forward to more ‘Foot. I think they are one of the best new rock bands out there right now. The band’s line-up/collaboration is incredible.
I bought the DVD the day after it went on sale and it was the last copy at the Best Buy I went to. It’s pretty damn cool how it was only $11.99. There was also only one Chickenfoot t-shirt left at Best Buy for sale and it was only $7.99. I think it’s really cool how they’ve tried to keep some of the costs down when possible. Sammy has always done stuff like that in the past and I’m sure will continue to do, giving free shows and shit like that.
Sammy sounded phenomenal on the DVD and so did everyone else.
I like what Sammy said at the end of the show- “That’s the way rock and roll is supposed to be played.”
I just thought – Hell Yeah IT IS!

I kind of wish this comment section had “Like” and “Dislike” buttons to click on people’s comments because I appreciate reading the intelligent, rational ones but I usually don’t have time to list everyone that I liked reading, but anyway I do get tired of reading the constant comparisons’s between the two bands and the stupid ass elementary school insults, but whatever.
There are some really good comments here and also some pretty nonsensical ones too. I’ve been getting kinda burned out on reading the comments and posting my own as well. I think I burned myself out by posting such loooong ones. But anyway if I chill out on coming to the comment section I’ll still visit this site, it’s great.
I’ll just never fully understand the people who come here and post comments that are so negative or insulting, I just don’t get that. We all come here because of the love of rock and roll. Where does all of this animosity come from? I mean everyone here is a Van Halen fan for Fuck sake, why would anyone care if someone likes Chickenfoot too. I listen to about a million other bands other than CF and VH.
I don’t think I’ve ever heard a Chickenfoot fan say that they think CF is better than CVH. It’s just that there are people in the world who appreciate other rock bands and other musicians, as well as VH. Why would that bother anyone? Weird.
I’ve said this before, repeatedly – comparing the bands is a waste of time. Why do that, they are two separate rock bands. If you like one more than the other for specific reasons, cool. If you don’t like one at all for whatever reasons- cool. But why get your panties in a bunch about it? I mean, discussing what you like about a band or what you don’t like very much, or how you think it might be better if something was different is one thing and that’s cool and everything. But why shit on a band or heave childish insults about a band or its members or its fans on a fansite showcasing that band? If you don’t like ‘em why waste time with it?

I’m looking forward to the next release by Van Halen and Chickenfoot.
I’m really, really excited about a new VH album, it’s been so long and the anticipation has grown so much and I don’t know what to expect from VH at this point. I have no idea what direction the band has gone musically since I haven’t heard anything from them in so long, so it’s pretty damn exciting thinking about new songs from them. I hope Van Halen comes out with a VH 4 with DLR and it’s done in the same spirit as VH 1 with minimal production. I hope it’s a dirty, raw and heavy kick ass rock and roll album.
Long Live the ‘Foot!! and here’s hoping for the rebirth of the Greatest Rock band in History – “The Mighty Van Halen!”
