VAN HALEN NEWS DESK

New Van Halen shirts!

Van Halen has two awesome new shirts now available at Van Halen Store.

Smoking Baby Shirt (Small – 2XL, Navy, $19.95)

Celebrate CLASSIC VAN HALEN in this navy tee featuring one rock ‘n’ roll’s most iconic images – the mischievous baby smoking a cigarette – from Van Halen’s mammoth 1984 album!

The young angel looks just a little devilish with that cigarette in his hand, looking up at the heavens and wondering if he’s doing something that isn’t quite right…

Van Halen Smoking Baby Shirt

1984 Album Cover Shirt (Small – 2XL, Black, $19.95)

This black tee celebrates Van Halen’s phenomenal 1984 album, which is still considered one of the most quintessential rock albums ever! 1984 was successful not only because it contained monstrous radio and MTV hits, but also because it incorporated synthesizers into the mix, the first hard rock album to do so to any serious extent. Songs like “Jump” and “I’ll Wait” contain a pop element that gave 1984 truly mainstream appeal, and David Lee Roth turned the frontman role into an art form on songs and videos such as “Panama,” and “Hot for Teacher.” Even the deep tracks such as “Drop Dead Legs,” “Girl Gone bad,” and “House Of Pain” are revered by fans. 1984 was the year for Van Halen, and to a large extent, it was 1984 that set the standard for ’80s pop metal, and David Lee Roth who set the standard for the aggressively good-time attitude most pop-metal bands took for their own.

I like the top shirt the best. The smokey look is great.

On a thinly related note, did anyone see ‘That Metal Show’ recently with Satriani. They asked him if he had another G3 concert in him, and who he would like to have as the other guitarists. He mentioned Eddie … how cool would that be? I often thought Eddie would be a great G3 addition.

  • Scottso

Agreed. The top one is better.
Love the G3 concerts. Eddie should do it with Alex & Wolfie backin’ him up. Ah, dare to dream…

  • http://www.merchnow.com blindbubbacheeks

    Those tees are SICK!!!

  • Shawn

Cool Shirts! I would love to see Eddie join Satch on a G3 gig.

  • dlrevhsh

i wonder why they are coming out so many new van halen clothes latley.

  • RonT

Those are some cool tees! I always wondered why they didn’t use that smoking angel again after their 1984 tour…

  • Erick

I would like to see the 84 shirt with the Hammer Guy on the back.

  • BrianG

Still nothing bigger than a 2x. I guess Eddie doesn’t want fat people representing his band. lol

  • http://myspace.com/timkarplusband t1m

@dlrevhsh: Seriously! Tons of new clothes, I hope it means they’re planning something big and not just further cashing in on their glory days.

@Bluesbro: I don’t think Eddie would ever do G3. He’s as likely to do G3 as he is to release an entirely instrumental album…well, I guess it MIGHT be possible. Just because I doubt it doesn’t mean it wouldn’t be totally sweet.

  • Jess

I love the descriptions that Van Halen Store wrote for both tees! The 1984 album truly is a masterpiece. Glad I lived through that era. Awesome artwork too.

  • DiamondDean

Yeah both shirts r great , the best so far , the shirts are nostalgic which i prefer , reminds you of how great they once were . Same reason i like my favorite album covers then other lesse albums , even though fair warning is a terribele album cover , but what an album

They wont be putting out a ou812 or a balance shirt too soon will they now

  • DiamondDean

Why wld ED do G3 for??????? hes been douing the exact same solo for the last 20 odd yrs , he really has gone stale in that department,

  • jim

The release of a bunch of new shirts is just part of VH’s master plan.

  • corey

I totally think Ed would do a G3. He has already done a few things like that. Theres vids of him on youtube jamming with Leslie west on Mississippi Queen, one where him and steve lukather jam out a few song on stage, and that All Star Garage Band show. He’s not one to turn down something like a G3. All he would do for his set is probably just take some classic VH songs and do em instrumental, like when he was on David Letterman in the mid 80′s and did Panama instrumental. But when you think about it, he actually wrote a few instrumentals that are on some albums, like Baluchitherium or Respect the Wind. I don’t know, those are just my two cents.

  • http://none Dirty Duck

1984 was THE album that turned me on to VH as a 10 year old!
I love every song (Yes, including JUMP!) and I never tire of listening to it. “Girl Gone Bad” is my favourite track (the last 20 seconds are baaaaaad assss).

Did anyone know that it’s not just a smoking baby….it’s supposed to be a “jaded” new years baby…
Eiether way it’s the wallpaper on my cell phone.

This album is so strong, it broke the band apart at the seams. Sad but true….

  • ben

@DiamondDean did you hear RESPECT THE WIND? BALUCHITHERIUM? CATHERINE? RISE? he could put a show with that stuff and would kick ass

BTW I LIKE THE SECOND T SHIRT MORE!

  • phil

these are probably the coolest VH shirts i have ever seen!

  • phil

and yes, G3 with eddie would be awesome!

  • Allan

Must be nice to just sit back and sell something new every week without having to put out any new music. Sorry but I’d rather have something to listen to as opposed to a t-shirt, hat, guitar part, etc. All I see is a money grab going on here.

  • Adam

Newsflash for Allan… *every* item for sale *anywhere* is a money grab.

  • McQuestion

I’m DEFINITELY buying that first T-shirt.

  • Dooley

    Duck:

Yeah, the 1984 album broke the band apart by the seams, the original linup started to sputter…Jump only sounds good when they play the first 10 seconds of it at an NBA playoff game. It’s down there with I’ll Wait.

Enter the Red Rocker, right place right time. He was good for the band, the band was good for him. It worked for awhile. A decade later, they put out Humans Being, the last excellent effort from the Hagar era (2004 tour was troubled, fer shure).

2c from the loyal opposition !!

    Rock on bro

  • Dooley

But you’re right about Girl Gone Bad, good one!

  • http://none Dirty Duck

Ah dooles…..did you HAVE to mention hagar! ;)

  • http://none Dirty Duck

    Allan:

You’re the OTHER fly in my soup!

  • http://none Ilivewithfools!!!

Ed’s already jammed with Steve Morse, Albert Lee and Allan Holdsworth onstage. Vai and Snatch are Ed heads, so it would look a little silly up there ieo.

Clue: Folks are buying everything VH sells or they still wouldn’t be putting things out there to sell so don’t be a dork and keep repeating the new music thing every post. You know who you are.

  • Scissors-Kicker

Please don’t say dumb stuff like “Hagar came in at the right time”. 1984 was a HUGE album and the band was reaching commercial success they never seen before. They would’ve continued to be huge if it wasn’t the fact that Dave and Eddie’s working relationship was hitting critical mass. The only thing Hagar did was turn America’s best hard rock band into Journey Part 2. Pathetic.

  • http://www.cabowabo.com No Mas Tony

1984: Used to be my favorite VanHalen album, now it’s probably my least… Like Dirty Duck said though, I too was 10 when I heard Jump play on the radio and it blew me away.

But it’s like how a star burns its brightest right before it imploads… 1984 took =VH= to the highest commercial success they ever had and then *boom*, suddenly Dave is singing Beach Boys covers and along comes Hagar…

Women & Children First on the other hand, never liked it when I heard it the first time. Now it’s my favorite.

@ Dooley: I’m with you, dude! The Hagar years rocked and so did Humans being!

  • RickieVanWhalen

Just slip on those leg warmers and you’ll fit right in!

  • pete

ya guys, leave hagar alone.he is what all other bands call “busy”.

  • phillster

    THANKS Sissors-Kicker,
Couldn`t have said it better myself!!!!

  • http://heavymellowmusic.com johnny beane

As much as i love Eddie id rather see him on stage in a band situation and not just pulling his pud with some other wankers.

Satch is a great guitarist too but the whole G3 thing looks so boring to me.

Id rather see G3 with guitar hero controllers!

Ive enjoyed Satch on the Chickenfoot album.
Just not a fan of his style of instrumental guitar.

Also i like the bottom shirt myself.
    Id wear that.

  • http://vhnd.com surfthis!!

Humans Being was the last good Van Halen song!

the t-shirt is not exactly P.C.
    Love it!

  • http://vhnd.com surfthis!!

    cant wait for Chickenfoot 2
    and Van halen IV!!

this fall will the best ever for us fans!!

  • skutch

Ed would never to G3. He’s not an instrumental guitarist in that respect. Plus, those tours don’t make a fraction of the money of a VH tour.

  • johnny

Pete, good call, In my business we have to work till we die.On another note I would like to address all the folks on here that were not present when Van Halen were at the top of their game in the late 70,s and early 80,s. What was happening than will never happen again, granted the music will always be there but the mood, the youth, the element that was Van Halen will never happen again, I was fortunate enough to have experienced the thrill and vibe of four guys doing what all 18-20 something guys dreamed of,Sex, Drugs ,and Loud In Your Face Rock and Roll,I saw Van Halen in Seattle in 2004 and 2008 and it pales in comparison to the days when Van Halen ruled the Rock and Roll World, If you weren,t there in that era you missed it.God Bless Van Halen

  • Panama Red

1984 is such an amazing album. It almost seems like a “Best Of” album. It seems like every song on there could be a hit single. And it’s the one VH C.D. I have that needs to be resurfaced, I guess from playing it so much. It’s scratched up and skips.
And yes, Dirty Duck “Girl Gone Bad” is a f-ing bad ass song. It stands out to me on that album because it’s so aggressive.
I remember being in a music store when I was probably 8 or 9 and the 1984 album cover caught my eye and I was strangely entranced by that image. It’s weird how I remember that. I don’t think I even knew who Van Halen was, but years later I would become obsessed with them. LOL.
I also pictured David Lee Roth as a similar baby, minus the wings. HA ha.

  • http://vhnd Emery

Somethings up nothing from Roth. Cool shirts though.

  • pete

no offence Emery but i remember someone saying that over a year ago.

  • DiamondDean

VAN HALEN wld of told Roth to be quiet , so i think there is still something goin on , if Roth was out you wld be hearing all about it
