Satriani says Chickenfoot will play shows in 2010

joeSubscribers of the Satriani.com mailing list were sent this message from Joe this week:

“It’s hard to believe Chickenfoot’s 2009 is coming to a close. The gig in Vegas was fantastic, and a great way to end the touring year.

Cheers to all our fans for making every show not only possible, but memorable and fun. And, I want to thank all my fans at satriani.com and around the world for cutting me some slack and letting be be in a rock band for a while. Your patience with me is amazing, and not for a second do I ever forget it.

I wish I could share the Chickenfoot Gold Record award hanging on my wall with all of you. They should send one to everyone who bought the album! That would cost about a million smackers, but, I might be able to get a government grant for it… I’ll work on that…

Looking ahead we have a NAMM show in January with a cool new 24 fret JS guitar to unveil, and a February 2nd release of “Joe Satriani, I Just Wanna Rock, Live in Paris” DVD, The Jimi Hendrix Tribute Tour in March, and some Chickenfoot shows in the spring and summer.

It’s gonna be a great year!”

Joe

We know that Chickenfoot has been contemplating touring outside the USA in 2010. We don’t know if they are considering playing any US shows next year.

“cutting me some slack and leting me be in a rock band for a while”

That does’t sound so permanant folks. As I have said before, three chord rock jams and the rock and roll antics are beneath him.

  • Panama Red

I’m think he was just refering to the end of the tour and the break in Chickenfoot’s schedule, due to Chad’s stuff with the Chili Peppers. Joe said how great it’s been with Chickenfoot and how much fun he’s had. I haven’t read or heard that he felt otherwise.
I’m sure Joe will continue his other projects, just like Chad with the Peppers, Sammy with the Waboritas and Van Halen should with Mike.
Members of Chickenfoot have already talked about new material/ideas they have work on. Hopefully they will return with all of the same members. If not at least they put out one really good album.

  • VH Dude

With respect Rickie…I think you are grasping…really trying hard to read between the lines. Do you think that some sort of hidden message? I don’t think so man. And rock and roll antics? C’mon man – is he not allowed to cut loose and have some fun? I think sometimes people have an idea of what they want and expect from an artist – and when they stray from that picture, some people don’t like it and practically wish for the new venture to fail. I think Joe’s had a blast with the rest of the band. Check out the Soap on a Rope video – just good fun, a little out of his previous element and I think he’s really enjoyed it. I’m sure we’ll hear more solo stuff from Joe as Panama Red mentioned, but I’d put money on Joe playing guitar on the next Chickenfoot album.

I hope you boys are right. Perhaps all the years of EVH are getting me paranoid and CF is all I have left.

Yo KIMBERLY! Where is the good news you promised me in December?

  • http://cheeseburgerpicnic.com Skutch

CF is a bunch of guys just having fun with no strings attached. There’s no reason NOT for them to keep making music and doing shows. They all have other bands and stuff (which they will do as well), but I think they’ll keep making time for this for years.

its good to hear a ChickenFoot story without reading some jab torwards VanHalen. i know CF features 2 previous members of VH but i think it lowers thier cred when every single interview HAS to mention VH.

i think its Sach who is a class act. not mike.

  • Keith

Like I said before, Thank God for Sammy Hagar to keep rock’n'roll alive, because there will be NO NEW VAN HALEN. Eddie said it himself in the latest Guitar World interview.GO READ IT. He’s pissed that the fans didnt like VH3, or his random new songs, porn sound track, etc., so he’s just gonna make money of us while we hopelessly hope.

  • Jor-L5150

well, dylan pissed off all his fans when he went to an electric guitar- and eventually they came around

satch may have thought that hooking up with stadium-rockers ike sam may have been a turn-off to satch-solo fans and he evidently got a lot of support.

  • scott

Some of you guys think too damn much. It’s like a bunch of chicks and some soap opera drama. Just chill out and enjoy the music, for crying out loud! ‘Shut up and play yer guitar’.

  • swingin’ sinner

Keith while I feel your pain Eddie said that “We might not record something new” I think he is just a bit pissed at all the talk about Eddie should do this or Eddie should do that and he’s just acting like an angry parent! You know like giving unruly children an ultimatum “If you don’t behave you’ll get no dessert!!!”

  • Panama Red

I like the “rock and roll antics”. Rock isn’t supposed to be sitting on a stool with an acoustic guitar, like James Taylor. It’s supposed to be crazy, aggressive, unpredictable and even a little dangerous. How boring would rock and roll be without these things. Chickenfoot isn’t even that crazy compared to some other bands. Chad’s the only one who is really kind of out in left field, and I like it!
As far as the status of VH, I fear the soul of Van Halen is dying. Maybe it was money that stole the spirit of VH or a combination of a lot of negative things.
I mean look at Chickenfoot. They seem to be genuinely having a great time just making music together, playing smaller venues, connecting with the fans and look at how ALIVE they are.
Van Halen on the other hand, kicked out a founding member for no good reason and was dishonest about why, disappointed fans with ticket prices and drunken shows, and Eddie has seemed to have disdain for fans. But they sold out huge arenas with the reunion tours and made tons of money, (without making an effort to create new music.) It’s like they just went on this huge money-making tour, and then called it quits again. It didn’t seem like it was for the fans. Bad energy.
Regardless, I’m sure tons of people had great times at the shows with Roth back in the band. But they are kind of dead now again, with no new songs. I wish that they reconnected with Roth to get back together again to make music. Not to sell as many tickets in giant arenas and then fizzle out again. I’m not trying to bash VH. I’m just trying to make a point. I’m not happy with the status of VH. I want Van Halen to be the Mighty band they once were.
I hope Eddie remains sober, healthy and happy and maybe things will get better. I’m sure I’ll always be a fan of Van Halen’s music. Just maybe not some of the individuals’ decisions in the band. Which is okay, I guess. Shit happens

  • Big AL

    Panama Red,

You’re the guy Eddie was talking about in the Guitar World interview! Stop FUCKING it up for the true fans!!!!!

  • Panama Red

I hope I’m wrong about Van Halen not making any new music. I hope they’re secretly recording new stuff with Roth. Although it’s still gonna be without Mikey, so that’s not cool.
Or at least Eddie should put out the 5 albums worth of material he says he has. Even if it’s just instrumental, experimental stuff. I know it would be kind of hard for the record companies to market that, since all they care about is the money, not the music. But Eddie and Alex should make it work for the loyal, and hardcore fans.

  • Panama Red

Big Al – I don’t know what you’re talking about man. I’ve been a true fan for a long time. Just because I’m a fan of Van Halen doesn’t mean I can’t look at what’s goin on with Van Halen honestly and objectively. Being a fan, follower, supporter or whatever with anything doesn’t mean having blind faith or having a blind eye to what’s happening.
I have seen them in concert a ton of times, bought tons of their merchandise , supported them when almost everyone else I knew didn’t think they were cool, and made Van Halen fans out of people that didn’t care about them at first.
I want Van Halen to be at it’s most Awesome true potential.
But true fans that want Van Halen to rule the world again know it hasn’t been like that for a while now. Sure, I’m not the obsessive fan I once was with VH years ago, but for good reason. Things have changed about Van Halen. But that doesn’t mean I don’t want VH to succeed and kick ass. I miss Van Halen Kicking Ass. But I also hope they appreciate their fans.
I’ll always be grateful for all of the VH music and memories. I just want them back where they should be, that’s all.

  • FAMAC

Chickenfoot should get their own News Desk – its getting absurd – Sammy does so much promotion, this might as well be the Red Rocker’s Chickenfoot Cabo.com.

These guys aren’t in Van Halen anymore, in fact they are enemies of Van Halen. Whether justly or unjustly, the Desk is promoting the Other Half of by offering an outlet to Sammy’s endless sales shtick.

If Chickenfoot is the next big thing like so many here claim, lets see them support their own address based on their own name, not Van Halen’s.

  • Chris B.

    FAMAC,

You’re acting like CF send all their info to this site. This site is based on VH fans finding this stuff and posting it here for all to enjoy. The only stuff this site pimps is the merch that I’m sure they pay for themselves in order to get the rights to sell it all.

Chill out. Don’t like the articles? Don’t read them.

  • sammyvanroth

FAMAC, i was going to say something but you are such an idiot your stupid comments speak for themselves…

  • Pete

Chickenfoot, against many people’s expectations, had a successful CD & tour. BRA-VO! We need more “big rock”, not less, so I’m not sure why some people are always trying to find something negative about EVERY story, but I imagine those are the people that probably aren’t very much fun to hang out with anyway, so I’ll probably never understand them I suppose!

I for one would be happy if VH could pull a CD together too – we need more cool music, not less. If they don’t, that’s fine too.

Chickenfoot will record and tour again, and they’ll do it for all the right reasons. They’re more “walk” than “talk”. People obviously have reacted to the Foot because they are the real deal.

I can’t wait for the concert CD AND the new CD & tour!
