VAN HALEN NEWS DESK

Van Halen brotherly love

From TMZ today:

Eddie and Alex Van Halen came from the same womb, played in the same legendary rock band … and now they’re driving identical $120,000 silver Audi R8s.

We’re told the rock star brothers purchased their new rides last Friday at Keys Audi in Los Angeles — but for some reason, Eddie was sent alone to ink the deal.

While Eddie may be the generous type, sources say the brothers each paid for their own.

Nothing like dropping a quarter mil on some family bonding.

Mark Sachs, you seem like a good bloke with decent moral values. I’m in full agreement with you.

  • bosox

    I hate the Yankees.

  • Pete

I wonder if this was with the proceeds of the tacky sneakers or the video game that attempts to rewrite VH history. Either way, I’m glad the salesman got a commission…or maybe he got some EVH Gear in lieu of $$$…

  • Mark Sachs

Simon, Thank You for the kind words and support. All the the Best to You!

  • Russ

You gotta realize that aside from EVH being the most innovative, greatest uber rock guitarist of all time, he is still human like all of us. Vulnerable to all the same excesses and addictions that we all face. Money aside, he seems to have been broken for quite some time so I for one am willing to cut him a break now that he has cleaned up. That is why I say he has paid a price for what he has given us. Patience a little longer…he has only recently come out of the fog. There will be new music. It will be good. The balance of the universe will be restored.

  • Karl

“Vulnerable to all the same excesses and addictions that we all face.”

Times that by a hundred due to the easy access to all sorts of mother’s ruin that your average rock star has.

  • Dan

Let’s state the facts and move on:

    1) Ed has been a mess in past years, thus VH has been in a funk for quite a while. Now he is getting on track and musically it takes time to get back in the swing of things. Patience.

    2) Ed does promise new music, half because it is true the other half is him trying to sell his EVH line with some sort of relevancy. Like it or not, that is what’s going on. No need to attack him nor no need to kiss his ass for doing so as well.

    3) If VH is selling VIP 400 dollar tickets, than they DO owe the fans who paid that amount an autograph. The other members prove so by doing them. Ed was being lazy. He doesn’t owe a fan off the streets anything, but he does owe a paying customer/fan some value besides a photo and grace of his presence. What else is it worth paying it for, you would think.

    4) VH has always been a dysfunctional band, luckily the music was worth putting up with to some degree. Nothing to be proud of for the past 15 or so years with all the drama. The Hall of fame was a low point in the bands history, should have been a highlight.

    5) Van Halen doesn’t owe us anything. The only time they do is when they charge a ticket and we buy, we should get them at their best. When they make an album it should be their best as well. We have the option of buying or not, the biggest protest is not giving them your hard earned money.

Rockstars driving an Audi?!? Those are for bankers…:-)

  • Jim

This is my view on Van Halen.

Ed and Al grew up musicians. They are not from here. The family was not well off. They are from working class. They had an amazing work ethic towards music. Ed was 100% dedicated to mastering the guitar like noone else to date. Master the guitar at all costs. Drugs and alchohol fine if it helped. Ed and Al, both fairly quiet and reserved. Shy wouldn’t be that far off. They did all they could to make it. They made it. Ed is a perfectionist and is hard to work with. Demands perfectionism and anybody that is not near his level will not be that happy in the band. Things start to got comfortable in the band but Ed is still driven. Dave and Sammy can’t work with Ed because he is at such a genious and in a demanding state that it’s nearly impossible. Add drugs and alchohol. Kind of like me partnering with Tiger Woods. I’ve never played golf and I get the cold shoulder when I make suggestions and I want to do something different. Eventually, I quit. With the long break with Ed beating cancer, he comes back and is driven again only Mike like 99% of all other musicians is just not driven like he is artistically. Enter Wolfgang who might be the next best thing to Ed. Dave is back and all the nonsense is gone and they are far from being dysfunctional at this point.

Glad they’re enjoying the fruits of their labors, they deserve and earned it.

Someone should jack them upside the head and tell them if they released the footage they shot in 2008 for the DVD that they dropped then they could buy a different P.o.S. for each day of the week.

Here’s hoping a new album is, as Ed stated in print media, just around the corner.

  • Valorium

Hey Jim – nothing wrong with your opinion, I completely respect it, but don’t disrespect Michael Anthony by thinking out loud he was fired for not being as driven as Ed. He was fired for wanting to play music and tour and sell hot sauce without Ed, while Ed was inactive. To make a founding member of the band sign a ‘hired gun’ contract for the final tour with Sammy was a total lack of loyalty and total bullshit move. Wolfgang may one day have Michael Anthony’s talent, and he may one day be able to fill in the vocal role Michael played, but he’ll never be a founding member. I don’t hold that against Wolfie, for a 17 yr old he did fine in the Dave Reunion tour. But they dicked-over Mike.

I’d rather know or read that they’re doing something for us, the fans. Let’s say like a CD with new material, or a Live DVD of the last Tour with DLR, how about even a Blue Ray of some older concert. Hey, yes how about that?, any plans in releasing something in Blue Ray format, I’ll be happy with anything they release in that format, anyway it’ll be great!!!
I’m also curious about something that was published when Eddie got married recently, I read that Alex was the person who married them, I read that he’s an ordained minister, why don’t you give details about that? Like what religion is he practicing, since when is he an ordained minister, etc.?
