Van Halen brotherly love
Tuesday, 3 November 2009
From TMZ today:
Eddie and Alex Van Halen came from the same womb, played in the same legendary rock band … and now they’re driving identical $120,000 silver Audi R8s.
We’re told the rock star brothers purchased their new rides last Friday at Keys Audi in Los Angeles — but for some reason, Eddie was sent alone to ink the deal.
While Eddie may be the generous type, sources say the brothers each paid for their own.
Nothing like dropping a quarter mil on some family bonding.

This is news?
November 3rd, 2009 at 1:35 pm
Who cares !!!!!!!! There are more important things to worry about in the world rather than if Eddie & Alex bought the same kinda car… Maybe they needed a break from the studio that they aren’t jamming in!!!!!!!!!!! CF rocks !!!!
November 3rd, 2009 at 1:53 pm
New cars! Awesome! Expect them to be blasting the sounds of new music through the speakers as they drive around town!
It’s gonna happen folks!
/sarcasm
November 3rd, 2009 at 2:11 pm
Ah Yes!!!!!!!!!!! Our hard earned money from the last tour at work!!!!!!!! I wonder how much they’ll make off of the classics 2010 tour that they will surely have????? It will be interesting to see if they top the $93 million, especially if they basically do the same tour just playing a few classics that omitted from the last time.
November 3rd, 2009 at 2:59 pm
Mark,
Sounds like you’re suffering from wallet envy. What do you expect rock stars to do with the money they make on tour?
November 3rd, 2009 at 3:06 pm

Allow me a chance to inflict a little HOPE here,
NOW FOLLOW me on this one,
A: ED`s in VEGAS
B: ED&AL buy matching cars
C: Somebody “blogged”here recently that his friend
(who plays in a =VH= coverband)lives down the street
from ED`s & has been hearing insane jams `till all hrs
of the night.
Providing He wasn`t fullashit,I gotta think/believe
the albums done,& they know it`s soo good they`re
celebrating before the check comes.
Don`t forget,this band`s recorded revolutionary albums in
a matter of weeks.
Either that or it all turned to shit again,
But I doubt it

VH2008, It´s not that I am suffering from walet envy, it´s just that Van Halen happens to be one of those bands who have disregarded and short changed their fans in recent years. Even for rock stars!
Case in point I bought one of the I Love All Access packages during the 2004 tour. The package included sound check. Everybody in the band signed autographs during sound check, except one member. Guess who that was? If you guessed Eddie, you win the prize!
I am not a roadie or someone connected to the music business so I figured that this would probably be my only shot in my Life time of getting my hero´s autograph. I looked at Ed and said “Come on Ed“ He looked back at me and said “No man, because if I sign for you then I have to sign for everybody else!“ I didn´t say anything back, but I remember thinking what´s wrong with you signing for me and everybody else? After all, Sammy, Mikey, and your brother signed for me and everybody else.
It kills me when some misguided VH fan(s) writes things like “They don´t owe us anything!“ I beg to differ! They owe us everything, because if it wouldn´t be for their fans buying all these tour tickets, tee shirts, shoes, guitars, albums etc… then they wouldn´t be able to buy their matching $120,000 Audis!
Unfortunately, Van Halen seems to have lost sight of all of that or worse, just doesn´t give a @#%$ about the fans that have stuck with them for over 30 years!
Well, I am finished rambling, crying, bitching or whatever else you want to call it. Now let the disagreeing and hating begin! Lol
November 3rd, 2009 at 5:17 pm
Jor-L5150, Yeah, I had a feeling that I wasn´t the only one who felt that way! Lol
November 3rd, 2009 at 5:43 pm
In more interesting news…I did a write in vote for Eddie Van Halen to be our next Sheriff. Our area held a special election for Sheriff and I voted for Eddie. I don’t like to throw away a vote but neither guy that was up for it I liked. So, it’s my right to vote or not vote so I voted Eddie.
November 3rd, 2009 at 5:44 pm
Again, how hard could it be for someone, perhaps VHND, to friggin’ call VH mgmnt and ask WTF is going on ?
November 3rd, 2009 at 6:06 pm
Another slow news day.
November 3rd, 2009 at 6:39 pm
Should have bought a Lexus Eddie. Audi’s suck!!
November 3rd, 2009 at 6:50 pm
Mark,
If your backstage experience was supposed to include getting an autograph from Eddie, THEN you would have something to be upset about. But there were no autographs promised, were there?
Sure, it would be great if Ed signed that item for you, but why judge him without being in his shoes? I wonder if you were famous for 30 years and were always asked for autographs…would you always stop everything to sign autographs, or would you sometimes politely decline?
VH doesn’t owe anyone anything. They can release anything they want, and anyone can buy it if they want to. It’s that simple.
November 3rd, 2009 at 7:49 pm
Slow ass R8’s. I beat the hell outta one with my SRT8 and it was only 42k.
November 3rd, 2009 at 7:53 pm
Mark Sachs …right on brother.
To VH2008 ur a clown.
I too had Premium seats for three shows on the 2004. After sound check(s) all members Al, Mike and Sam signed shit for people while Eddie slipped away. Hell Sammy and Mike weren’t even in the band and they signed autographs and chatted with all the fans. KNowing we plunked down $400 a seat to see a band with his namesake, it’s his damn duty. Nothing is more of a slap in the face then dissing folks who paid Top, TOP dollar for this experience….that’s pure bullshit. On the flip side, I hung out with Ed back stage in 86′ and he couldn’t have been more fun. Slamming Heinkens and talking music…oh those were the days.
November 3rd, 2009 at 8:04 pm
VH2008,
No, I wasn´t promised an autograph with the backstage package that I bought. However, I am a fan and was disappointed that he refused to sign my cd, especially since everybody else did. Those are the breaks so to speak.
Of course, I don´t know how I would act if I had, had people ask for my autograph for 30 years. However, with Ed´s lack of activity in recent years, he should be happy that there are people who still care.
It´s funny how people are so quick to come to VH´s defense whenever they are critized on here. Now if some of those folks are employed by Ed or the Van Halen camp then that explains that.
In my opinion, the majority of people who get on here and write negative posts aren´t haters. They are true, yet frustrated fans.
I am not judging Ed based on the fact that he didn´t sign my item. The fact that he doesn´t do autographs has nothing to do with his guitar mastery or his contribution to Rock N Roll.
Regarding your “VH doesn´t owe anybody anything“ comment, we will have to agree to disagree on that one. Once again and finally, these artists would be nothing without their fans. Van Halen seems to have lost that. If they get the concept back some day then I will be one of the first to get on here and sing their praises.
November 3rd, 2009 at 8:09 pm
BTD, Thanks! I am glad that 86 was such a great experience for you and I am sure that you will never forget that! Rock On Man, Rock On!!!!!
November 3rd, 2009 at 8:30 pm
Mark,
I hear your opinion. Fair enough.
I’ll ask myself a question - does Eddie owe ME anything? Well, of course not. How/why would he owe me something?
Does he owe it to me to keep on making music? If so, for how long?
Does he owe me more tours? Does he owe it to me to dig up old footage and clean it up and release it? In case I run into him, does he owe me an autograph? Or owe me some hang time so we can shoot the shit and have a chat for awhile?
I mean, I WANT him to come out with more music, and I WANT him to release old concerts on DVDs & CDs, and I WANT him to tour again and again. And if and when he does any of that stuff, I will GLADLY pay my hard earned cash for it, and I would be very happy to get more.
But, on the other hand, what if he (God forbid) simply doesn’t want to do any of that stuff anymore? Should all of us fans unite and file a joint lawsuit, since (some of us) think he OWES us? Because if he owes us something, he should legally have to cough it up right now, right?
What does he owe me? If he owes me something, I want it! (After I figure out what it is)!
In your defense, maybe your are mainly upset that he chose not to be bothered to sign autographs that day? Well, I guess in a perfect world he would have. You seem cool since you like VH. For your sake, I wish Ed signed it. But you shouldn’t carry around any anger just because he didn’t, (in my opinion).
November 3rd, 2009 at 8:57 pm
VH2008,
Even though we don´t totally agree on everything, one thing that we both can agree on is that We Are Van Halen fans! I also agree with you that I want a new album, dvd, tour etc…
However, I recognize that there is a possibility that none of that will happen.
I was at the AC/DC show in Greensboro, North Carolina last month. While I was talking with this guy next to me he said “You know, it´s kind of sad with some of these older bands who still tour, because you never know when the time you see them may be the last!“ I said “Yea man, that´s true! Plus, that means we as fans are getting older too!“ lol
I am not angry that Ed didn´t sign the cd. Disappointed? Yes, Angry, No. Heck, I went to see them on the 07/08 tour with DLR and will see them in 2010 if that really happens. Especially, if they tour with new material. However, I think I´ll pass on the 2010 back stage experience! Lol
Take care of yourself!
November 3rd, 2009 at 9:24 pm
Ed was miserable back in 2004. This IS Vh news. Enjoy it people and stop whining. LIKE I”VE SAID BEFORE! AND I”LL SAY IT AGAIN, the boys (including Dave) are enjoying being filthy rich and enjoying life.
November 3rd, 2009 at 9:49 pm
At least this is Van Halen News…………… Eddie and Alex VAN HALEN
November 4th, 2009 at 12:18 am
I’m sick and tired of people claiming that Van Halen owes the fans something.
They don’t owe us anything, especially now when they are in their mid 50’s. They are taking it easy now. So what. Wouldn’t anybody if they could at that age.
If you don’t want to spend money to see them, then don’t. Someone else will. If you don’t want to buy any of the music they put out, then don’t. Plenty of other people will. If you want an autograph and you can’t get one, so what. The one thing about that is that Ed’s autograph will be worth more to those who have it, since it doesn’t appear he signs much.
November 4th, 2009 at 4:37 am
Jim, wrong. They do owe us something. In return for our loyal patronage which most of us still offer despite our patience being stretched to breaking point they owe us honesty. If you’re retired that’s perfectly fine, you’ve given us plenty to be getting on with. But if you are retired, just say so! The longer this goes on the more it looks like all the talk about a zillions songs waiting in the can is just to keep us on the hook so that we’ll think “any day now, any day now” and keep buying the sneakers while we wait. And that’s called ‘taking the piss’. How much of a market do you think there would have been for the Frankenstart replica if Eddie had officially hung up his spurs after VHIII? How many people would have been in line to drop $25,000 on a Frankenstrat from a guy who retired twelve years ago? It’s all starting to smell a little bit cynical.
And as for Ed not signing a CD. Sure, it might not have been promised in the small print, but…
A while back I bought my girlfriend a birthday present of a week’s cooking course at the cooking school of one of the U.K’s top celebrity chefs, Rick Stein. Despite the course costing £1,600 (about $2,600) it clearly stated in the details that Rick Stein will not be at the school or giving cooking lessons. You just get taught at his school and that’s the deal. However, on the last day of the course Rick turned up unannounced and spent 4 hours cooking, chatting, drinking, having pics taken and signing. And not only that, he was only in the U.K. for that day having returned from New Zealand the day before and flying out to New York the following day and he also had to get his annual medical check up on that day and apologised that he couldn’t spend longer with us. And, even though I wasn’t on the course, they fed and watered me for the whole week free of charge. Now that’s the way to treat the people who bought you your luxury lifestyle.
Sure, Edward is a genius and he deserves all that he’s got. But he seems to have forgotten who put the coins in the jukebox…
November 4th, 2009 at 5:23 am
Fuck the Audi, I would have gotten a Ford GT!
November 4th, 2009 at 5:25 am
There we go again the naysayers at their very best, moaning and bitching everything Van Halen does? What next? You gonna blame Eddie for world poverty?!! WTF!! Do you listen to yourselves? Don’t think to out aloud, trust me keep to yourself and crawl back under that rock you all came from.
I agree with Jim and others here. Van Halen owe us nothing, they have given their all for us. You see Van Halen don’t release music just for the sake of releasing!! Have you noticed that in every Van Halen album, every song is GOLD!! (Except for the Hagar love ones!) They don’t put throw away songs!! I’ve been listening to Girl Gone Bad, Sinners Swing, Outta Love and other classic jems. Those songs were not hits, but they are GOLD!!!!
Van Halen made one bad mistake and that was the VH III/Cherone rushed album, they learnt their lesson on that one. I know this entire BS is everything to do with Chickenfoot and those ex-members. Music is not sports, it’s not a competition, in a nutshell ‘WHAT’S THE RUSH?’ Who’s to say Van Halen have to match what Chickenfoot, Sammy or anybody else for that matter? Maybe in Sammy’s ego corrupt ways. He’s just itching for Van Halen to fail so he can reap the benefits, you know the publicity so he can sell his booze and Cabo!!
I mean have all you naysayers forgotten? Van Halen goes by their own rules!!!
Question? Which band/artist doesn’t show up to their Rock N Roll Hall of Fame inductee night, (career suicide for most!) yet still be loved and complete their biggest and successful tour to date?
Answer? VAN HALEN!!!
The amount of heavy hits and blows this band has taken since its inception is remarkable, but Van Halen are still alive, they are true rockers and they are survivors.
November 4th, 2009 at 5:37 am
I agree with you Skutch!!
Eddie was miserable for a few years there, now he’s back, he’s sober (hopefully for good!!) happy, fit and loving life!!! Is there anything wrong with that? So he’s been promising fans for years on new Van Halen music, he’s not lying, it’s just that he had sort himself out and those that were hurting him. I’m just getting excited that we’re Van Halen are gonna pick up from “Me Wise Magic” part, the ’second coming’ was all there Van Halen people!! Do yourself a favour, when driving to work, put that song on and turn it up full volume!! WOW!! that’s why Van Halen are the greatest!!!!
November 4th, 2009 at 6:19 am
Right on Jim! I wish I could take it easier now! VH doesn’t owe us anything. They’ve already given us so much…
November 4th, 2009 at 6:50 am
Geez, you can’t even write anything remotely critical of the band without the hate machine coming out! Come on Guys take your Lips off Van Halen’s ass for once in your lives!
November 4th, 2009 at 6:50 am
You have to be extremely talented and also extremely lucky to make it in the music business. There are so many great musicians out there that never received their lucky break. Eddie Van Halen did and he owes that 100% to his fans. 99% of people do not get to make a living doing something they love to do and because his fans are willing to pay a significant amount of their hard earned money on Van Halen Tours and Merchandise, Eddie has been able to do this. By this website alone he should realize that Van Halen plays an important part in the fans lives. Van Halen music is the soundtrack to their lives. Eddie owes the fans everything, and for the last 11 years he has shorted them time and time again.
November 4th, 2009 at 9:36 am
You clowns make me laugh, all this drama over two cars!!! They should of bought a couple of Harley’s!!!! LOL!!!!
November 4th, 2009 at 9:54 am
right on jc!ed is the source of all the frustration.
November 4th, 2009 at 10:40 am
Actually JC,, Eddie and the guys owe a ton to Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley as THEY were the one’s who gave them their lucky break..
November 4th, 2009 at 11:14 am
Mark Sachs: You’re the man and absolutely right. Without us, he’d be nothing. Whether you like him or hate him, Gene Simmons once said the fans are what made him. “If you treat one bad, that one turns into one million.” He said that in 2001. You can say what you want about him, but it’s impressive that he’s still got that attitude 30+ years after making it big.
November 4th, 2009 at 11:25 am
EVH has paid a price for what he has given us. Look at his life.
November 4th, 2009 at 11:51 am
Finally… someone who gets it! Thank you Russ! Imagine the pressure he deals with, aside from what the “FANS” continue to whine about in their diotribes here. Just wait patiently, like the rest of the TRUE fans, and I GUARRANTEE you won’t be disappointed… I have come to the belief that the fans today are spoiled with INSTANT GRATIFICATION & have become a victim of their own attitudes! Saying Eddie, Alex, Dave & Wolf OWE us is childish, like a kid who wants Christmas every day - you want what you want, when you want it!!!
To all of you people out there I just have 2 things to say, then I will end my own diotribe….
1)You should all be ashamed of yourselves!!!
2) GROW UP & BE PATIENT!!!
November 4th, 2009 at 12:06 pm
Grow up and be patient? I’m growing fucking old being patient. Congratulations you win the Daft Post Of The Week award. It’s been eleven years in case you didn’t notice. VH are making Boston look like workaholics!
November 4th, 2009 at 12:20 pm
If you guys are talking about that shell of a man with rotted teeth, long stringy hair and camoflauge pants who was so f’d up he couldn’t remember how to play his own songs, I’d say no big loss on not getting his autograph back in 2004. That wasn’t Eddie. I’m sure whoever that was was under orders from the band to limit time spent with fans because he was such an embarrassment.
November 4th, 2009 at 1:26 pm
yes, wait patiently! in 11 years when the album comes out none of us will be disappointed!
November 4th, 2009 at 1:40 pm
Here is the story. Ed and Al are getting ready to record with Wolfie and Dave and tour in a few months. Ed is now clean and sober, newly married and Wolfie is in love with Liv, a fact confirmed by Valerie who loves Liv’s family. She is from the midwest, very near KC according to Val via the Johnny Dare show KQRC mornings.
Ed and Al are worth milliions so a 120k car is nothing but a tax right off. Ed celebrates being clean and sober and might have given his car to Wolfie for graduation.
Finally, the real detail-someone got a MOTHER of a commission check and blew it in Las Vegas over the weekend. Now you know.
Some true- Ed celebrating several things, and he LOVES fast cars. Why not, would we if we had multi mill to spend…. YES
November 4th, 2009 at 1:48 pm
the vh fanbase endures more bs than any other fanbase out there.
November 4th, 2009 at 1:48 pm
The TruthHurts, Thanks for the shout out man! Hey, I was just speaking my mind and calling it as I saw fit! I knew that I was going to get some hate on here with what I posted, but I didn’t care! The negative comments that I have received mean absolutely nothing to me!
Ed’s a big boy! Therefore, he ought to be able to take some criticism! After all, it not like he reads any of our posts anyway. People can call me whatever they want to, at least I still care about the band. I am a fan, just a frustrated one, like some of the rest of you all.
The TruthHurts, I loved your post about Gene Simmons! Gene obviously still gets it. I just wish that Van Halen would! Rock on Brother and the truth does indeed hurt!
November 4th, 2009 at 2:27 pm
There will never be new music as long as they can go on tour every year and sale out stadiums. All VH fans need to do a lock out during the next tour.
November 4th, 2009 at 4:34 pm
That is a news?????
cmon… I am a drummer and I like to read an interview with Alex where he explains his new set-ups, configurations, cymbals, snare drums types occupying … birch or maple or both and because …
Salute!
November 4th, 2009 at 5:17 pm
Come on!!! Van Halen doesnt owe us shit!!! They can buy whatever the fuck they want!!! Some of you need to get a life!!! I wouldnt put out new music for so called fans! First albums good enough for me. Havent heard anything better from anyone period. Not even you Sammy!
November 4th, 2009 at 7:27 pm
I don’t care how much it costs; that is one UGLY-ass car…
November 4th, 2009 at 8:07 pm
Hey were is Duck? You guys come on the Van halens can do what ever they feel like. The bros have givin us so much. I say rock on and enjoy.
November 5th, 2009 at 4:26 am
Mark Sachs, you seem like a good bloke with decent moral values. I’m in full agreement with you.
November 5th, 2009 at 5:49 am
I hate the Yankees.
November 5th, 2009 at 6:47 am
I wonder if this was with the proceeds of the tacky sneakers or the video game that attempts to rewrite VH history. Either way, I’m glad the salesman got a commission…or maybe he got some EVH Gear in lieu of $$$…
November 5th, 2009 at 6:54 am
Simon, Thank You for the kind words and support. All the the Best to You!
November 5th, 2009 at 9:35 am
You gotta realize that aside from EVH being the most innovative, greatest uber rock guitarist of all time, he is still human like all of us. Vulnerable to all the same excesses and addictions that we all face. Money aside, he seems to have been broken for quite some time so I for one am willing to cut him a break now that he has cleaned up. That is why I say he has paid a price for what he has given us. Patience a little longer…he has only recently come out of the fog. There will be new music. It will be good. The balance of the universe will be restored.
November 5th, 2009 at 12:22 pm
“Vulnerable to all the same excesses and addictions that we all face.”
Times that by a hundred due to the easy access to all sorts of mother’s ruin that your average rock star has.
November 5th, 2009 at 7:26 pm
Let’s state the facts and move on:
1) Ed has been a mess in past years, thus VH has been in a funk for quite a while. Now he is getting on track and musically it takes time to get back in the swing of things. Patience.
2) Ed does promise new music, half because it is true the other half is him trying to sell his EVH line with some sort of relevancy. Like it or not, that is what’s going on. No need to attack him nor no need to kiss his ass for doing so as well.
3) If VH is selling VIP 400 dollar tickets, than they DO owe the fans who paid that amount an autograph. The other members prove so by doing them. Ed was being lazy. He doesn’t owe a fan off the streets anything, but he does owe a paying customer/fan some value besides a photo and grace of his presence. What else is it worth paying it for, you would think.
4) VH has always been a dysfunctional band, luckily the music was worth putting up with to some degree. Nothing to be proud of for the past 15 or so years with all the drama. The Hall of fame was a low point in the bands history, should have been a highlight.
5) Van Halen doesn’t owe us anything. The only time they do is when they charge a ticket and we buy, we should get them at their best. When they make an album it should be their best as well. We have the option of buying or not, the biggest protest is not giving them your hard earned money.
November 6th, 2009 at 3:04 am
Rockstars driving an Audi?!? Those are for bankers…:-)
November 6th, 2009 at 1:31 pm
This is my view on Van Halen.
Ed and Al grew up musicians. They are not from here. The family was not well off. They are from working class. They had an amazing work ethic towards music. Ed was 100% dedicated to mastering the guitar like noone else to date. Master the guitar at all costs. Drugs and alchohol fine if it helped. Ed and Al, both fairly quiet and reserved. Shy wouldn’t be that far off. They did all they could to make it. They made it. Ed is a perfectionist and is hard to work with. Demands perfectionism and anybody that is not near his level will not be that happy in the band. Things start to got comfortable in the band but Ed is still driven. Dave and Sammy can’t work with Ed because he is at such a genious and in a demanding state that it’s nearly impossible. Add drugs and alchohol. Kind of like me partnering with Tiger Woods. I’ve never played golf and I get the cold shoulder when I make suggestions and I want to do something different. Eventually, I quit. With the long break with Ed beating cancer, he comes back and is driven again only Mike like 99% of all other musicians is just not driven like he is artistically. Enter Wolfgang who might be the next best thing to Ed. Dave is back and all the nonsense is gone and they are far from being dysfunctional at this point.
November 9th, 2009 at 11:03 am
i just picked up my used Yugo. . . .
November 16th, 2009 at 7:09 pm
Glad they’re enjoying the fruits of their labors, they deserve and earned it.
Someone should jack them upside the head and tell them if they released the footage they shot in 2008 for the DVD that they dropped then they could buy a different P.o.S. for each day of the week.
Here’s hoping a new album is, as Ed stated in print media, just around the corner.
November 16th, 2009 at 7:17 pm
Hey Jim - nothing wrong with your opinion, I completely respect it, but don’t disrespect Michael Anthony by thinking out loud he was fired for not being as driven as Ed. He was fired for wanting to play music and tour and sell hot sauce without Ed, while Ed was inactive. To make a founding member of the band sign a ‘hired gun’ contract for the final tour with Sammy was a total lack of loyalty and total bullshit move. Wolfgang may one day have Michael Anthony’s talent, and he may one day be able to fill in the vocal role Michael played, but he’ll never be a founding member. I don’t hold that against Wolfie, for a 17 yr old he did fine in the Dave Reunion tour. But they dicked-over Mike.
December 2nd, 2009 at 1:18 pm
I’d rather know or read that they’re doing something for us, the fans. Let’s say like a CD with new material, or a Live DVD of the last Tour with DLR, how about even a Blue Ray of some older concert. Hey, yes how about that?, any plans in releasing something in Blue Ray format, I’ll be happy with anything they release in that format, anyway it’ll be great!!!
I’m also curious about something that was published when Eddie got married recently, I read that Alex was the person who married them, I read that he’s an ordained minister, why don’t you give details about that? Like what religion is he practicing, since when is he an ordained minister, etc.?
December 17th, 2009 at 2:11 am
Great to hear! I drive an Audi, albeit 10 yrs old but love the cars and now the vh bro’s have got the German vibe! Work hard, play harder!!! Van halen will rule 2010/2011!!!!! Hail Hail!!!!
