Michael Anthony: “We’re gonna do another Chickenfoot record.”
Chickenfoot update: We’ve compiled three recent Chickenfoot interviews for this update. Two with Michael Anthony and one with Chad Smith:
Chickenfoot interview #1: A recent 6 minute interview that Michael did with Dunlop TV:
DunlopTV had a sit down with the one-and-only Michael Anthony. Chickenfoot was playing a gig at the Greek Theater in Berkeley, California. Michael treated us to some of the best wine we have ever tasted and gave a great interview as well. There was backstage jammin, hot chicks, Joe Satriani, Sammy Hagar, and the formidable Chad Smith… I even got to try on the Jack Daniels bass! It was everything we could have imagined. Good times. Good times.
Chickenfoot interview #2: From NoiseCreep.com:
Chickenfoot Will Go On, Says Michael Anthony
Posted Today by Steve Baltin
Maybe the most surprised people on the planet when Chickenfoot — the band featuring former Van Halen boys Sammy Hagar and Michael Anthony, as well as Joe Satriani and Red Hot Chili Peppers‘ Chad Smith — entered the Billboard top 200 in the top five was Chickenfoot themselves. “It blew my mind when we debuted at #4, because in this day and age, especially a lot of so-called supergroups, people know for the most part it’s just something that’s thrown together. Try to throw the best musicians together or something for something that’s got sellability and it’s not a long-term deal,” Anthony tells Noisecreep.
But Chickenfoot is a long-term deal, he insists. But as has been well-documented, Smith is back in the Red Hot Chili Peppers’ fold. So how does Chickenfoot deal with the hiatus while keeping going? “It won’t be until he’s in the studio with them and sees what they’re gonna be doing. Then it’ll kind of determine what we’re going to do,” he says. “We worked it around Joe’s schedule last year when we were doing the album. Chad’s schedule might be a little bit more intense than Joe’s, but we’ll make it work because that’s how we did it in the first place.”
While they’re figuring that out, Anthony has some plans of his own. “Sammy and I have been playing together and we’re always thinking of putting some things together. I’d actually been thinking of doing a thing with a bunch of different musicians and doing some cool cover songs,” he says. Who’s on the wish list then of guys it’d be cool for him to “jam” with?
“I know Billy Gibbons from ZZ Top. It’d be really cool to do stuff with him. I’ve jammed with him a couple of times. And then there are a lot of younger musicians, too; I’m good buddies with Mark Tremonti, who’s in Alter Bridge and Creed and we talked about doing a couple of things together,” he says. “Obviously, I could say Paul McCartney, this guy and that guy and it’d be a great experience, but someone like that? I’d just want to sit and talk with him about a bunch of s—.”
With the success of Chickenfoot, though, and the great response the band had on the road, that remains Anthony’s priority. “As far as going out and touring, I love this right now. That’s why I hope it continues on,” he says. “I know it will continue on. It’s just a question of when and it could be later than we think or a lot sooner than we think.”
Chickenfoot interview #3: Chad Smith on the Free Beer & Hot Wings Morning Show:
This is a 15 minute Chad Smith interview that was done August 25. It’s a couple months old, but it’s funny. Listen now!

November 2nd, 2009 at 7:05 pm
Man, Peayey amps. I know Ed has used them for years but seeing Mike use them brings back memories from my old band days in the early 80’s. Back then they were considered the low line of equipment to buy but got the job done.Especially for bass. Black Widow speakers ruled. Don’t bash me for that statement cause i know some people swear by them, but in my town that’s all there was and were affordable. Now seeing Mike use them seems like it’s all coming back in full circle and Peavy tech has really come a long way. Whatever happened to their stupid looking drums? LOL.
November 2nd, 2009 at 7:09 pm
Long Live the Foot! I hope Mike will make a solo album he has been thinking about it since the Right Now video!
November 2nd, 2009 at 7:34 pm

Anybody want to bet we’ll see another chickenfoot album long before there is ever another van halen album?
November 2nd, 2009 at 10:41 pm
The Foot is gonna give Rock n Roll another kick in the ass!!!! Long live the Foot!!!! I’ll drink another shot of cabo to that!!!!
November 3rd, 2009 at 1:12 am
And, on another note… Who cares? This was a weak, every song sounds the same, nothing new, album. The, “I’m surprised” bullshit from MA was gay. Guess what- if you’re a super group, people know who you are. And, for that, to barely clip 500,000 does suck. Please, everyone who posts on this site ask a few friends who you know love heavy rock- and, not only did they not buy into this mediocre Chickenfoot shit- they’ll tell you it’s half-assed, mundane, runofthemill boringness. Sorry, but it’s the truth. And, if you still listen to FM to find out about what’s going on in heavy music than you are way behind the times. Try Nevermore, Iced Earth, Blind Guardian, Hammerfall, etc. It will just whett your appetite, and it carries the flag.
November 3rd, 2009 at 5:32 am
That is a safe bet, since there will probably never be a new Van Halen album.
November 3rd, 2009 at 6:32 am
“I had to save up for a new amp, cos Eddie played so fucking loud I needed something bigger!”
Haha, excellent. I like it how Sam and Mike can fondly reminise about their VH days (especially Mike) and not bash Edward or the boys. Seems like there’s a mutual likeness between the two bands - they know that theres history but they stay out of each other’s way and are probably keen not to get into a media battle like they did with DLR and Sam when they first split.
New Chickenfoot is always welcome in my book.
November 3rd, 2009 at 6:58 am
BEST CASE SCENARIO FOR 2010: New CF & VH CD’s and tours. I hope they each pull something together that makes everyone happy.
November 3rd, 2009 at 7:53 am
Go Chickenfoot!!!!!!!!!!!!! For people who truly love jamming rock n roll Chickenfoot is for you! In case some of you all havn’t noticed there aren’t a lot of true rock n roll records being made. I mean AC/DC’s Black Ice, Chickenfoot’s debut, and the new Alice in Chains disc and that’s about it, unfortunately. It’s definitely not like when I was growing up in the 80s!
I like so many of you guys are hopeful for a new Van Halen album. I really wish that Ed and the guys cared about their fans. Unfortunately, it seems to be all about the cash. If they tour in 2010 with no new songs and a few classics that they didn’t play on the 07-08 tour, then once again we will get ripped off!!!!
November 3rd, 2009 at 8:47 am
I’d like to see them around for a long time yet. Sammy is going to turn 70 in just 8 short years. That’s really hard to believe.
November 3rd, 2009 at 11:14 am
Airball from Fairwarning. I’m a VH lifer, and love the ‘Foot.
November 3rd, 2009 at 11:23 am
not crazy about cf/s music, but man ,vh could sure use a lesson in p.r. from these guys.all ed needs to do is take 2 minutes of his time ….oh thats right, hes busy planning a bday party.
November 3rd, 2009 at 11:45 am
Even though i dont care for chicken foot,i give them props….From the start they told their fans they were making a album and then delievered it. Took the show on the road to give the fans what they wanted, and now a dvd with talk of a 2nd album. I wish things could be that easy with the VH camp! Give the people what they want!
November 3rd, 2009 at 11:46 am
“This is Michael Anthony, from the legendary Chickenfoot”…
LEGNDARY???? C’mon man, give us a break…The only reason YOU are legenday is because of your former band, the MIGHTY Van Halen!! I would NEVER classify CF as legendary, even though some players are = Satch & MA…Chad could do just fine w/o CF & Satch too, but the ONLY reason Sammy is famous is because he REPLACED someone in VH. Now he can do whatever he wants w/ his life because of his ability to ride on VH’s coattails (re: Cabo Wabo Tequila, CW Cantinas all over the place & Mikey too w/ his hotsauce)!!!
November 3rd, 2009 at 11:54 am
vh doesnt owe us anything ,but does anyone remember the post ed gave us 6 months ago about how him and the boys were heading for the studio right after the wedding, and wolfs graduation.?if hes not going to do anything, than he simply should not say that kind of @##$.little 16 year old miley cyrus can do a tour, a movie,2 cds,and a tv show all in one year..cmon ed how about 1 song and a tour?
November 3rd, 2009 at 12:00 pm
Fair Warning, what the fuck is it with you lot? Can’t you be happy just for five fucking minutes?
November 3rd, 2009 at 12:47 pm
Michael Anthony + Mark Tremonti + (especially) Myles Kenney + Van Hagar covers = AWESOME.
November 3rd, 2009 at 12:48 pm
Sorry, Myles KENNEDY.
November 3rd, 2009 at 12:59 pm
The sad thing about this whole topic is, if VH put out the identical album as Chickenfoot put out, VH fans would be singing its praises to no end. Question for Fair Warning: what excactly is heavy rock? VH isn’t it. By no means do I think they’re not rock, but heavy? Jump, Dance the night away, Pretty woman, Dancing in the streets,………etc. No one really cares about anyone elses “OPINION” anyway.
November 3rd, 2009 at 2:32 pm
Fair Warning, your comments are weak, nothing new and always the same…..i actually enjoy your comments because it confirms there is balance in the world. common sense people and dipshits like you!
November 3rd, 2009 at 3:39 pm
Fairwarning:
I totally agree with you that the current state of FM
radio is a complete joke(at least here).Satellite radio is where it`s at IMO.
Jor-L5150:
“A Momentary Lapse of Treason”-That`s f`n hilarius!LOL
“DANOOSH”:
You SAY =VH= doesn`t owe us anything(very true).
BUT THEN you go on&on about ED not doing enough in time for “your schedule”of enjoyment,-to the point where you
ACTUALLY COMPARE his LEVEL of TALENT&contribution to ROCK&ROLL, to a
POLE-DANCING HILLBILLY “FLASH IN THE PAN”.
SO WHICH IS IT?
November 3rd, 2009 at 3:55 pm
Didn`t somebody just recently “post” here that his friend (who plays in a =VH= coverband)lives down the street from ED`s house& has been hearing insane jamming coming from
there until all hours of the night??
GOD I HOPE he wasn`t “fullashit”
Maybe ED took a trip to Vegas because the ALBUM`S FINISHED!!
Ever think of that?
It`s called HOPE
Try it.
November 3rd, 2009 at 4:00 pm
Fair warning should give fair warning about his personality…The Foot Rocks!!!!!Just got the CD ….It is Fucking Good!!!
November 3rd, 2009 at 5:21 pm
keith you misunderstand:
i LOVE sammy, maike , van hagar and chickenfoot.
LOVE THEM.
but that doesnt mean i dont have a sense of humor.
November 3rd, 2009 at 5:22 pm
if ed would officially retire- fine.
he doesnt owe us anything.
but- he isnt officially retired and keeps dangling the carrot.
hence, we lament the delay.
very simple.
November 3rd, 2009 at 6:30 pm
Philster needs to stop drinking before noon
November 3rd, 2009 at 6:30 pm
Sammy Hagar, Don Henley, Micheal Anthony, and Jo Dee Messina will all have ne music out before Van Halen does, and their stuf will be better than Van Halens
November 3rd, 2009 at 8:25 pm
Someone here said VH isn’t heavy rock? With what they came out with in 78- yeah, I’d say that’s metal, dumbass. And, for the morons- I like Sammy, love Satch, believe Mikey got totally screwed, but I’m honest and Chickenfoot is average at best. It’s no better thab Nickelback, 3 Doors Down, Staind, etc. And, the problem is IS that it should be. Wake up- stop drinking the kool-aid. I know I didn’t when VH put out VH3. That was subpar also. And, even though that lineup rocked hard live- saw it 98- and, I’m sure the foot does, too- the album doesn’t live up to the billing. Time to be honest and the distorted pipe dreams aside.
November 4th, 2009 at 8:05 am
I guess we have different definitions on what heavy is. I remember when VHI and VHII came out and it sure didn’t sound like Heavy Metal. If anything, it had a sound all its own, and paved the way for the so called 80’s Metal. To say Chickenfoot is no better than Nickelback, 3 Doors Down, and Stained is idiotic, but it’s your opinion and you’re entitled to it. I love all of VH’s era’s, even VHIII has it’s moments that I enjoy. I really couldn’t care if VH ever puts out another album. It is kind of sad to sit here after more than a decade has gone by and bitch about an album or group that is around now, and compre them to a group that hasn’t done anything since the 90’s.
November 4th, 2009 at 9:50 am
KTC5150 says: Sammy is famous is because he REPLACED someone in VH….
Simply not true. He had his hits. He never achieved “top shelf” status but you knew he was out there and he had his hits. He all saw heavy metal and know there’s only one way to rock. C’mon, it’s OK to give him his due and not betray VH. CF is a good (not great but still a lot of fun) debut, but it’s not even close to VH1. But I do think the next one will be a lot better. Timing accounts for a lot. When VH1 came out it defined a new way to present heavy metal/rock. What else was out there? We had Kiss, Aerosmith, Boston, the Top, the Nuge. People just had a hard time calling it heavy metal because it was so melodic…but heavy never the less. And no one else was doing anything like this at that time…which of course paved the way for hard rock bands to follow in the 80’s. Now that’s an impact on modern music.
November 4th, 2009 at 11:22 am
I agree Russ. I really don’t mind others opinions, because that excactly what they are. Beauty is in the eye or ears of the beholder. I enjoy the Chickenfoot album as much as I’ve enjoyed any album for a very long time. It’s hard to have grown up in the 70’s and 80’s and had so many choices for good “rock” music. Some people are happy with the past and need nothing more and that is fine. I did have a little problem with the Chickenfoot being compared with the likes of Nickelback. I find many of todays hard rock bands lacking in the guitar dept. not one of the groups FairWarning compared Chickenfoot to, have a real guitar player. Just my opinion, doesn’t mean I’m right.
November 4th, 2009 at 1:08 pm
mighk -
respect your thoughts man. I like the foot a lot. I just don’t think it’s up there with VH1. Looking forward to the new release of either band.
November 4th, 2009 at 1:28 pm
Wow, some of you still hating on Chickenfoot. When was the last time any of us has heard anything about DLR? I hate to say it, after 2010 there will be news that he is no longer in the band.
November 4th, 2009 at 6:51 pm
Mighk, compared to Cannibal Corpse, VH isn’t metal, but it certainly is heavy- it’s hard rock. And, you’re right none of these current bands has a guitarist that can touch Satch. Can you name any of their guitarists- I can’t. And, there in lies the point- Satch doesn’t stand out in the Foot. The album just sounds like generic b.s. that is consistantly put out on the radio. I expected more because all the guys in the band are majorly talented. All that said, I wish them much success, and if they ever come my way, and I have the money, I’ll definantly be there. I’m sure live it’s better than the studio.
November 4th, 2009 at 11:49 pm
Rock On Chickenfoot!!!!
November 5th, 2009 at 7:28 am
Fair Warning,
I understand what you are saying about the difference between metal such as Cannibal Corpse and say VH. I was just saying in my first post that I never thought of them as “heavy” aka, “metal”. You are absolutly correct when you say “hard rock”. Taht was the term most of the bands that Russ mentioned used to describe themselves. The only problem I have is you use the term generic to describe Chickenfoot. they are far from it and they surely don’t sound like anything that is being played by radio right now. Using that logic, I’d hear them on the radio. The music Chickenfoot is playing is much more complex and thought out than you are giving them credit for. It’s definetly not the same 3 chord shit out there right now. Actually, I’m not sure (at least where I live) that VH will be played much if they release a new album. Radio has gone to hell, you’d have to get it on satelite to hear it. If you get a chance to see them live, or borrow the dvd, check it out. You may or may not change your mind. Too late for me to change my mind, as you said, I’ve drank way too much of the coolaid. See ya in Vegas for The Foot!
November 13th, 2009 at 12:03 am
Critics of this album do not get it. This album will win a Grammy. Johns did a great job on this record, and it is not generic bs. The album has unreal lyrics and melodies all blended together in a kickass ensemble. Rock and Blues blended with thundering drums and Sam’s gravel tones. Satch stands out with some unbelievable riffs, and considering that this was his first venture into this type of thing after all these years of training Steve Vai and the rest of the world how to play guitar, maybe the jealous losers that are being critical should get a job…because critiquing rock music aint their gig. I would suggest seeing them live, to see the way they play and feed off each other. The fun they have on stage is contagious, and the shows rock.
