I saw it! I was so excited when the song came on, I told everyone around me that it was Van Halen.

  2. swingin' sinner says:

you need to hang around with a better group of people!! ha! ha!

  3. non-stop talker says:

I love it!!!! That show’s funny!!…and of course that song kicks ass…

  4. bigen says:

awesome go drop dead legs lol dig it lol.. VANHALEN for life

  5. Michael says:

I smiled while watching that episode as well. That show is hilarious. I hope they play that song on the tour next year. They need to change things up, cut some of the same old songs out and play some songs that we haven’t heard in a long time.

  6. Junglestud says:

…i just wished they would of included this song on the last tour and in Guitar Hero VH.

  7. TheTruthHurts says:

Family Guy–funniest show on TV. And that’s not the first Van Halen reference they’ve had. Some of the writers must have good taste in music.

  8. RA 8 1 2 says:

Will next weeks news report be that a man on the subway was listening to Van Halen on his ipod?

  9. Bluesbro says:

Penis in a wheelchair … lol. Great song, but I have never seen even 1 second of that show. Well, I guess I have now.

  10. Michael says:

That’s gotta be one of the greatest songs of all time!! Which ironically never gets any airplay.

  11. Rich says:

I remember hearing a bit of “Unchained” on American Dad. I wish we could have some REAL VH news. :(

What next, Eddie Van Halen breakfast cereal? I’m just sick of merch peddeling when he should be doing an album.

  12. Ludwig says:

Diamond Dave once said in one of his many classic interviews, “There’s a little Van Halen in everybody!!” That’s a FACT!!!!

Notice recently how Van Halen’s legacy is being honoured/used in movie’s, TV spot’s, ads & to top it off Ed’s guest appearance on 2 & a half men!! I know this won’t go down well with the Sammy fans, but the Van Halen of choice is naturally the Roth era!! It’s amusing how the doomsayers, naysayers and anti EVH’s out there forecasted ‘the end for Van Halen’ when Roth was in and Mike was out with Sam. (2 birds with one stone…or Diamond!!)

The real fans have spoken!! Not only did they come out in greater numbers then ever before in the 07/08 Van Halen tour, but far greater NEW VH fans jumped on board!!! And the ‘NEW’ VH fans choice is the Van Halen/Roth era. So it’s a no brainer having the Van Halen/Roth era (the REAL VAN HALEN!!) celebrated on the latest episode of a sitcom, commercial, movie etc.

P.S. Drop Dead Legs!!! Now that’s a song I’d like to hear on the next tour!!

  13. RickieVanWhalen says:

What great news! Hey I farted and it sounded like one of the licks from everybody wants some.

  14. Elf says:

Um Rich, you know Eddie isn’t the guy who made that clip right?

  15. RA 8 1 2 says:

Funny you said that Rickie. I was gonna say something similar. Wonder what SCAR will say! : )

  16. SCAR says:

What if there was a EVH breakfast cereal??? EVH has the right to make money the way he wants to just like any other good business man does!!! Does he owe you a new album Rich??? Let me ask you this Rich, or the rest of the haters out there, if you were in a position to make GOOD money selling merchandise would you???? YES, you know you would, it would be bad business not to!!!! So get off of your high horse and just be happy that EVH is healthy, is in good spirits these days and provides well for his family!!!! Remember the money he keeps making today goes on to take care of his son and his family tomorrow and for years to come!!! Sounds to me EVH is just a dedicated Father and family man!!!!! I ask you, Rich, you whimpering wuss, are you just another selfish lame putz who is like the rest of the haters that slam EVH?????? YES you are!!!!

  17. Bridge says:

This just in. A man was listening to Van Halen on his I-pod on the 1&9 in Midtown Manhattan earlier today. Witnesses said he had tears in his eyes.

  18. pushtoshove says:

You know whats next?……” on Sunday , witnesses reported seeing Eddie Van Halens Face in a Bowl Of Chili at the Cabo Wabo Cantina prompting worshipers to stand in line for miles to witness what some are calling a miracle “…….

  19. non-stop talker says:

    Way to go SCAR !!!!

  20. bosox says:

While we are at it can someone post the hamburger singing “Everybody Wants Some”.

  21. pushtoshove says:

    Better Off Dead!….Nice ‘Bosox’….

  22. kayser sozay says:

I can’t disagee with you Scar. I just wish Ed would make earning money off of new music a priority. I think that’s what any VH fan would want.

  23. ben says:

Let the VH machine roll, when there’s a new album to promote, they’ll promote it.
I think it’s good news to have VH on tv shows, it seems to me they are preparing something, it’s just not normal to have VH everywere.
Enjoy people, want to complain, then twitt Eddie directly as simple as that!

  24. Omar Halen says:

Crazy guitar solo!!!… Eddie change my life. To hear his guitar is the best!!!
    Omar
    Lima, Perú

  25. sammyvanroth says:

Ludwig, i think it’s great VH is having a huge resurgence. i attended my first VH show in 1980 and have been supportive of all the VH eras. we all know classic VH can’t be touched. but sammy era and yes, even gary era VH fans are real fans too. you spewing all the crap that you claim sammy fans spew makes you know better then those you talk about. appreciate the VH machine while they are still capable of performing and making music. no matter what the lineup is. let it go ludwig, VH is happy with dave and wolfie and sam and mike are having a great time with chickenfoot. enough of this dave vs. sam thing. it’s getting old…

  26. Adrian says:

Scar sometimes i fucking hate you but my friend your EVH statement is exactly what all the ungrateful fuckers need to hear.

  27. BlackLabelSimian says:

If there isn’t a peep to be heard about VH, people bitch. When there’s something VH related in the public eye, people bitch. Can’t win.
Screw it…It is what it is. If we’re lucky enough to get a new album, cool. And if we aren’t, it’s cool to at least see them showing up in the public eye to some degree.

Personally, I’d rather hear about a Van Halen tune showing up on tv than hearing Eddie is loaded and on the way to rehab again, there’s problems between him and Dave or whatever.

  28. Patrick says:

This is the 3rd reference to VH in Family Guy.

First one was where Peter was telling of his ancestors who were black & one of them says “I gotta go find a bongo so I can play the opening to Hot For Teacher”

2nd was when Peter goes into a record store & meets Jesus Christ, there’s a picture of the Frankenstein on the desk.

  29. onlyclassicvh says:

Goes to show you the ones doing these episodes and movies are more into classic VH that’s hardcore vs that mushy Love walks in crap!!

  30. Ludwig says:

    To sammyvanroth,

I never talked crap about Sam (I’ll leave that to the un-educated idiots on this site!) All I was stated from an observer point of view is the popularity of Van Halen being used for everything else.

Let’s not beat around the bush here!! All these naysayers and anti EVH’s are from the Sam & Mike camp. They are the ones that have all this anger, bitter, resentment built up inside them. They are the ones that wanted the 2007/08 Van Halen tour to fail. Why? I couldn’t be bothered to get into that argument (I got a life!)

But what’s been overshadowed in all this is the main man that bears the band’s name, King Edward VAN HALEN!! Like Scar brilliantly pointed out, “EVH is healthy and is in good spirits these days”. Life moves on. When Dave first left VH, it was hard to take, I was gutted & devastated! Yes Sam helped the band to stay afloat but it was never the same. Van Halen without Roth lost that unique humour, style, sound and MOJO; that bolt of lightning, eruption or howlin’ at the moon!!! Van Halen with Sam became…dare I say, predictable, stale, and tired. They just didn’t have with Sam what made them CLASSIC with Roth. I can understand why Ed & Al had so much hatred towards Roth when he left. But fortunately they grew up, got themselves clean and rediscovered that they need each other. The fact is plain and simple; Dave brings the best out of King Edward Van Halen and Van Halen brings the best out of David Lee Roth.

  31. Karl says:

And in related news, earlier today a radio station in Wyoming played Hot for Teacher. Also, unconfirmed report have reached us that, apparently, record stores stock Van Halen CDs…

Edward Van Halen declined to comment on either report.

  32. Hugo says:

^^^ Funny stuff, Karl, you make my day :)

  33. John (London) says:

    Brilliant!

They also used ‘Unchanined’ in an episode of American Dad, the 1st one i think. XD

  34. Elf says:

The “all people want is a new album” question is an interesting one….if Eddie REALLY can’t write like Sammy claims he can’t anymore, nostalgia tours might actually be a more enjoyable experience than an album….and I think it’s better to carry on in some capacity - I consider that “leave the legacy” thing bullshit.

  35. Rich says:

Okay SCAR, whatever man. I love Eddie Van Halen. I don’t come onto this site to bash him, I come on here because like the rest of us I have (what some would call) an unhealthy fixation on this awesome man. I love all of Van Halen’s music. I remember the first time I got Van Halen II, I lived in that album for months. And then I downloaded a bootleg of a Fresno show on their “II” tour in 79 and it was amazing what they did with those songs live.

I love Hagar material too, I even quite like VH3 for the guitar work, not so crazy on Gary. But it was stellar.

The only thing I’m saying is, I wouldn’t mind all the comments made in interviews etc to come to pass. However, saying that, they seem to have gone from strength to strength since being back with Roth. Another tour sounds great, even though they probably won’t come to England so I won’t get to see them. So really the only thing I have to look forward to is a new album, I just hope they deliver on it. I’m not going to go into who I think should be where with who when, I’m just enjoying the current situation as much as I can. You don’t even know how jealous I am of those of you guys who got to see them once, twice, three times or more on their last tour. Because they have a heavy/complicated stage set they don’t like coming to Europe (or so I heard). Flights to America are ludicrously expensive and as a Uni student I really don’t have the money!

(and yes, I realise Eddie didn’t make that clip. Jeez. I love Family Guy, glad they’re bringing out a new season. That episode was hilarious).

  36. Rich says:

Oh, and please don’t call me a hater. Theres a difference between scepticism and “hating”. SCAR, you should really stop immediately jumping to Eds defence and maybe talk like a human being. I bet if EVH turned up at your door with a flaming bag of his shit you’d probably put it on your mantlepiece. Lighten up dude.

  37. Ducky / Dirty Duck says:

“Drop Dead Legs” is truly a great song man. It just screams classic VH! I wonder if it was recorded live in the studio like many songs from the first album. It just sounds live to me. Everytime I hear it I picture eddie dave mike and alex in the studio drinkin’ beers and just jammin! Cool stuff….

I think it’s great that classic VH is finally getting some “air play” so to speak! LOL! I mean jeez, around here you always hear the same damn songs on the radio. “Jump” “Running with the devil” “Unchained” “Hot for teacher” “I’ll wait” ect. Dont get me wrong….great songs…I just wish they would play all the other shit too!
I dont think i’ve ever heard “Drop Dead Legs” on the radio once. Ridiculous. I never understood radio stations and their policy’s.

    Whatever right?

  38. Heather says:

This and the 2 1/2 men thing is way cool…it’s called creating a buzz….think about it. We on here want new VH music NOW, period. But (not if but) WHEN the album comes out, after Guitar Hero has sold big and with more of these appearances and if the music is getting more exposure in this way, the general population will eat it up. Sales aren’t everything, but it would be nice to see our mighty VH vindicated with a MAJOR blockbuster album. So as much as we bitch about the delays and that these clips are all we have to go on for now, it could very well be a strategic publicity buildup to the new music. Janie, you’re a genius. ;)

And Ben, “its not normal to have VH everywhere”….why the hell not? It is in my universe!

    Cheers

  39. SCAR says:

O.K. jerk off, you asked for it Rich, YOU are just another HATER whining and complaining about EVH!!! You whined “I’m just sick of merch pedaling when he should be doing an album”. I’m a little confused here Rich, who are you to tell EVH what he should be doing???? Hasn’t he done enough for Rock N Roll???? EVH has done a lot more for Rock N Roll than you have right??? You’re damn right I jump to EVH’s defense, I may slam all you hater’s but I don’t come here to complain about one of the greatest Rock N Roll icons of all time, but YOU DID, just like the rest of the haters do!!!! Face it Gomer, you just thought you were cool making that lame idiotic complaint! If yo had the chance to complain to EVH in person would you??? No, all you would do is stand there in your urine soaked drawers drueling like a pole smoker!!! Gee, I figured for once I was talking like a civil human being, considering I’m usually a belligerent jerk!!!!! Well dough boy, face it, nothing you can say will change the fact that you’re just another pathetic hater!!!! So, deal with that you greasy inbred knucklehead!!!!

  40. phillster says:

All these “Whiners” looking for a sign,
when it was right here all the time time time;)
3 scoops=VH=,1 scoop ICE CREAM MAN

  41. Rich says:

Wow, you really do come here just to argue don’t you? All you can do is whine at other people who don’t think that every little bit of news on here about EVH is amazing and worthy of the front page in every newspaper in the world. I don’t hate Eddie Van Halen. Did you even read my post?! I AM NOT A HATER. In fact, I’m a lover. Everything that Eddie has done musically, i’ve enjoyed. Roth, Hagar, Cherone. Les Paul tributes, instrumentals on TV, hell even 2 and a half men was worth watching for the riffage. Please don’t suggest that I dislike Eddie, otherwise what would be the point in me being here? You didn’t figure anything, you just spewed out a load of crap and half-assed insults.

Who is anyone to tell anyone else what they should be doing? Who are you to tell me I can’t express my opinion? Who are the media to portray any celebrity in any sort of light?

Yes, I said I’m sick of merch peddling. But theres not a time where I think that his stuff looks cheap or shit or nasty. Being a guitar player, I can honestly say i’ve dreamed of owning Kramer Strikers, Musicman Axis’, and Peavey Wolfgangs, as well as the Charvels and the new (Fender) Wolfgang. His amps look amazing.

But you have to understand, when we hear lots of interviews saying “i’ve got x amount of material”, we can only guess as to when it will be released. Don’t you get it? A new fully formed band, touring again, the world is their oyster. I’m not the only VH fan on this planet wondering about a new album, mainly because Ed and VH are in the public eye a lot more now!

I didn’t think I was cool making a complaint, I thought I was expressing my opinion like a human being. Is that not what this forum/comment section is for?

Do you have some sort of love for exclamation marks? One is enough.

“Nothing will change the fact that you’re just another pathetic hater!!!!” - say that to my Van Halen albums, dvds, bootleg concerts, posters and t-shirts. And my musical influence and preference.

  42. Russ says:

I think all of this is a calculated wave to prepare us for new music. Facebook, Myspace, TV appearence, merchandising, songs used in TV shows or commercials(my fav- remember the Nissan one with “You Really Got Me?”) Most likely due to the influence of the new Mrs. EVH and very business smart. It will all be in place when the new music arrives to generate more dollars. That is flat out good business. Who cares where it came from? It’s building a wave of anticipation and excitement.

  43. phillster says:

Zombieland,Spike,2&1/2men,&now Family Guy all within the last month or so.That`s more”publicity” than chickenfeed`s
    done all summer.Not enough?how`bout a videogame too?How about

  44. Z-man says:

    Hey Scar!
Are you Ed’s business manager? Didn’t think so…so shut the fuck up!!! The true fans want music from Ed and the band the rest is all fluff. obviously anybody who posts on this site is huge fan of ed and the band…so calling people haters is completely pointless. Find something better to do then slam everybody. Personally, I am sick of seeing your posts- thinking you’re all high and mighty.

  45. Ducky / Dirty Duck says:

I agree with heather and russ….

For many many years classic VH was ignored. Sure you could still hear a song or two on the radio but that was about it.
No classic VH t-shirts…posters…nothing! It was as if classic VH never exsisted. Not only was this annoying and frustrating it also made me wonder how the world percieved rock and roll. I mean how the fuck could you possibly forget the roots of this band? It was a question I pondered for many years. Well, here we are X-amount of years later and it seems like classic VH is EVERYWHERE. The radio is constantly playing the old roth classics and even some of his solo stuff. I barely hear anything sammy related anymore. Not that im complaining. Believe me….I’m not! Now it seems that TV is jumpin’ on the bandwagon….and thats fine by me.
It’s about damn time the orginal era gets the respect and praise it deserves….period! I feel that heather and russ are correct when they say that something must be in the works. The buzz is becoming bigger and I really do think this is a strategic plan here folks. Have faith in the mighty VH!

  46. SCAR says:

Rich, we all would like new music from EVH, but why complain like a pinhead, it won’t make a difference now will it putz??

Z-man, sounds like you had a bad morning - still a bed wetter eh cream puff???? Any one that comes to a site about a rock icon and whines and complains about him is a hater!!! So dim wit, don’t try to explain your pathetic self, it’s a waste of your time!!!! If you think I care that you are tired of seeing my posts, then just keep banging your head against the wall you feeble minded shmuck!!!!!

  47. Rich says:

Its weird, but with this new reunion I finally understand what Roth fans were complaining about. As soon as Sammy came into the band, its as if the previous 6 albums (save about 5 songs) hadn’t really existed. And now the same thing is happening with Roth, and its not necessarily a bad thing. I’d love for there to be room for all VH material but with two dynamic singers and one rebound, there isn’t room for it. I’m fine with EVH doing stuff, its just merch peddling that doesn’t really grow on me like it does other people I spose. Note: I’m not suggesting Ed is a sellout or trying to get more $ with stuff. People want to emulate him and they can through his gear, but it would just be cool to hear a snippet of even jams of old stuff he’s doing with Wolf & Alex (as we hear about). Twitter, myspace etc is cool but it needs to lead to something!

SCAR: Complaining like a pinhead? What would you like, an essay on the history of Van Halen and how they should or shouldn’t have an album out by now? These things don’t make a difference but neither do your morose, sarcastic comments.

Still don’t really get your insults - “putz”? Guess its cos I’m from the UK.

I also love how somebody says for you to shut the fuck up and you call them “feeble minded”. We are tired of your comments but you’re not going to let up and neither is anyone else.

  48. Vanicionado says:

Rich, I’ll translate for you: “putz” = “git”

    Gotta love S.C.A.R.

  49. bosox says:

I love all the turmoil! I dont think Scar is serious, I think he is just joking around and getting all your panties in a bunch. Now if any of you want to go you If you want to throw down fisticuffs, fine. I’ve got Jack Johnson and Tom O’Leary waiting for ya, right here.
Or better yet why dont all of you go back to Whore Island!

  50. Vanicionado says:

    You’re right bosox…

So let’s hear it peeps? Whose for just ignoring S.C.A.R. and seeing it this little blemish will go away?

  51. Vanicionado says:

    (oh yah… and bosox too!)

  52. Patrick says:

In related news, bosox changes his name to RonBurgundy.

  53. SCAR says:

Rich, mad pad???? Tissue???? Good day sir!!!!!!

  54. Rich says:

You’ve got a dirty whoreish mouth. Hahaha. Burgandy classics.

Yeah SCAR I don’t even know anymore. I’ve made my points and contributed stuff that wasn’t soley directed towards you so there. I don’t know if you’re a Sammy hater or not, I’m done with your weird comments and billions of exclamation marks.

  55. Patrick says:

Rich: “Putz” is merely another word for imbecile, moron, schmuck, idiot, etc.

  56. bosox says:

Van Halen really means a Whales Vagina

  57. Vanicionado says:

    bosox… you’re all right!

  58. RickieVanWhalen says:

Patrick - putz is yiddish slang for “penis”. Since I promised not to rib on SCAR anymore, I will not use it in a full sentence to describe his recent stay in prison.

  59. Rich says:

Well, I could be wrong, but I believe “putz” is an old, old wooden ship that was used during the Civil War era.

  60. J5149.5 says:

I’m gonna give scar(gulp) his due.I think he’s right in his first post. It’s called taking care of your family. What’s wrong with that? It’s getting old hearing person after person imply that evh is nothing more than a money whore. What should he do?live in a tent and eat pork and beans over a campfire?Would that give him more street cred or something?Nothing against you rich, but ed is promoting himself and his band and he always has, surely people aren’t just realizing that.

  61. Brandon says:

NO!!! My favorite song in my least favorite show.

  62. Jeff says:

The buzz is EVERYWHERE now!!!! It can only mean one thing……..NEW VH MUSIC, TOUR, ETC.!! Like Heather said, it is extremely good business to get the VH name and music recognizable to everybody again!! Just think…..who is the biggest audience age group that watches Family Guy, plays video games etc??? The younger record buying public who have only heard the name VanHalen, but never really took an interest in buying or listening, that’s who!! VH know that the rest of us who grew up with them, will always buy their new product, and buy tickets to see them. This is just a smart business move, to generate excitement among a much broader potential fan base!!
And to me, all this publicity means only one thing……..THEY ARE GASSING UP THE OL’ VH ENGINE, AND GETTING READY TO BLOW US ALL OFF THE TRACK!!!
SCAR, I totally agree with you too!! Unfortunately, with some of the schmucks here, even your strongest comments will NEVER get through their thick skulls………but don’t give up……I still always enjoy reading them!!

  63. Bluesbro says:

Great song, killer bluesy beat. But where are all the CF lyrical critics from awhile back? These lyrics are nothing but pre-pubescent drivel at best. I’ll take Sammy’s Foot lyrics any day of the week to this teeny-bop phrasing.

  64. Sean says:

good grief a snipet of a VH song gets played on Family Guy and all hell erupts on this “blog”. What’s the big deal, just a great tune by one of the most influential American bands of all time. Relax. Long live The Mighty VH!

  65. Ducky / Dirty Duck says:

Bluesbro I’m sure you know your stuff man but I gotta disagree with you on lyrical content. Classic van halen has always been known for their lyrics and the way dave sang em’. Where are you getting “teeny-bop lyrics” in this song? Cause he’s singing about a girl with a great set of legs?
How old are you man? I’m curious. Cause i’m in my early 30’s and I dont find the lyrics of one of the best VH songs teeny-bop. Do you even know what the phrase even means? When i think of teeny-bop lyrics I think of miley cyrus , hillary duff, the jonas brothers,…shit, even fuckin debbie gibson.
How are chickenfoots lyrics any better? They sing about cars and girls right? There is nothing special or intelligent about the lyrics from chickenfoot. It’s rock and roll man. It shouldnt be complicated or fucking political.
I’m sick and tired now that chickenfoot has arrived these so called VH fans have to compare one gold album to a lifetime of stellar music that VH has made in the past 30 years. I have nothing against the fans of chickenfoot, some of you seem like pretty cool cats. But others? I wonder. I really really wonder sometimes….
Drop dead legs is STILL an amazing rock song. The lyrics and the way its sang makes it memorable. Anyone who has a problem with lyrics about a nice pair of legs on a woman 20 something years later is sad. I’ll still be crankin that song when im fuckin 50 man. And guess what? I’ll still be checkin’ out all those drop dead legs too! ;)

  66. Jor-L5150 says:

its cool to see VH referances here and there- its been going on for years. the ‘ drew carey show ” mentioned van halen several times.

it is NOT part of a VH-planned-promo-conspiracy.

it IS the fans of VH who work in the media using the oppurtunity any of us would do if we could- and that is to nerdgasm over our favorite things. nothing more.

the twitter/facebook thing is different, that ed’s “handlers” laying the groundwork for promoting VH merchandise. but tv spots and mvoie scores are not a clue to anything other than there are a lot of VH fans out there. it doesnt have anything to do with a new VH record.

  67. Bluesbro says:

Dirty Duck, I am 50. Maybe teeny bop was the wrong term, since it normally refers to a young teenaged girl. I would say most of the classic VH lyrics were trying to appeal to the young teen male instead. Here is a cut and paste of Drop Dead Legs lyrics.

    Drop dead legs, pretty smile,
Hurts my head, gets me wild.
    Dig that steam, giant butt,
Makes me scream, I get nuh-nuh-nothing but the shakes over you
And nothing else could ever do.
    Chorus:
You know that you want it.
    I know what it is.
You know that you want it, baby,
When the night is through, will I still be loving you ?
    Dig those moves, vam-pire
Set me loose, get it higher.
    Throw my rope, loop-de-loop
    Nice white teeth, betty boop.
    Set it cool real heavy.
    I aint fooled, gettin ready.

I agree that it is a great song, and Roth sings it great (even with his fake falsetto at the end of every line). But the lyrics, come on man. This stuff is almost below juvenile. There is no question that the VH songs with the deeper lyrical content overall are the latter albums … but that makes sense as they were more mature artists.

Anyway, just one mans opinion. Music is totally relative though, so whatever turns you on is what is works.

  68. fonzi5150 says:

Seth MacFarlane has good taste! What else can you say? - (other than that’s hard to find these days!)

How sweet would it be to see Stewie as one of the band in a parody of the “Hot For Teacher” video?

    “I brought my pencil…”
