Van Halen song on Family Guy

The Season Premier of “Family Guy” aired last night and featured Van Halen’s “Drop Dead Legs” in the following scene:

  • Vanicionado

    (oh yah… and bosox too!)

  • Patrick

In related news, bosox changes his name to RonBurgundy.

  • SCAR

Rich, mad pad???? Tissue???? Good day sir!!!!!!

  • Rich

You’ve got a dirty whoreish mouth. Hahaha. Burgandy classics.

Yeah SCAR I don’t even know anymore. I’ve made my points and contributed stuff that wasn’t soley directed towards you so there. I don’t know if you’re a Sammy hater or not, I’m done with your weird comments and billions of exclamation marks.

  • Patrick

Rich: “Putz” is merely another word for imbecile, moron, schmuck, idiot, etc.

  • bosox

Van Halen really means a Whales Vagina

  • Vanicionado

    bosox… you’re all right!

  • RickieVanWhalen

Patrick – putz is yiddish slang for “penis”. Since I promised not to rib on SCAR anymore, I will not use it in a full sentence to describe his recent stay in prison.

  • Rich

Well, I could be wrong, but I believe “putz” is an old, old wooden ship that was used during the Civil War era.

I’m gonna give scar(gulp) his due.I think he’s right in his first post. It’s called taking care of your family. What’s wrong with that? It’s getting old hearing person after person imply that evh is nothing more than a money whore. What should he do?live in a tent and eat pork and beans over a campfire?Would that give him more street cred or something?Nothing against you rich, but ed is promoting himself and his band and he always has, surely people aren’t just realizing that.

  • Brandon

NO!!! My favorite song in my least favorite show.

  • Jeff

The buzz is EVERYWHERE now!!!! It can only mean one thing……..NEW VH MUSIC, TOUR, ETC.!! Like Heather said, it is extremely good business to get the VH name and music recognizable to everybody again!! Just think…..who is the biggest audience age group that watches Family Guy, plays video games etc??? The younger record buying public who have only heard the name VanHalen, but never really took an interest in buying or listening, that’s who!! VH know that the rest of us who grew up with them, will always buy their new product, and buy tickets to see them. This is just a smart business move, to generate excitement among a much broader potential fan base!!
And to me, all this publicity means only one thing……..THEY ARE GASSING UP THE OL’ VH ENGINE, AND GETTING READY TO BLOW US ALL OFF THE TRACK!!!
SCAR, I totally agree with you too!! Unfortunately, with some of the schmucks here, even your strongest comments will NEVER get through their thick skulls………but don’t give up……I still always enjoy reading them!!

  • Bluesbro

Great song, killer bluesy beat. But where are all the CF lyrical critics from awhile back? These lyrics are nothing but pre-pubescent drivel at best. I’ll take Sammy’s Foot lyrics any day of the week to this teeny-bop phrasing.

  • Sean

good grief a snipet of a VH song gets played on Family Guy and all hell erupts on this “blog”. What’s the big deal, just a great tune by one of the most influential American bands of all time. Relax. Long live The Mighty VH!

Bluesbro I’m sure you know your stuff man but I gotta disagree with you on lyrical content. Classic van halen has always been known for their lyrics and the way dave sang em’. Where are you getting “teeny-bop lyrics” in this song? Cause he’s singing about a girl with a great set of legs?
How old are you man? I’m curious. Cause i’m in my early 30′s and I dont find the lyrics of one of the best VH songs teeny-bop. Do you even know what the phrase even means? When i think of teeny-bop lyrics I think of miley cyrus , hillary duff, the jonas brothers,…shit, even fuckin debbie gibson.
How are chickenfoots lyrics any better? They sing about cars and girls right? There is nothing special or intelligent about the lyrics from chickenfoot. It’s rock and roll man. It shouldnt be complicated or fucking political.
I’m sick and tired now that chickenfoot has arrived these so called VH fans have to compare one gold album to a lifetime of stellar music that VH has made in the past 30 years. I have nothing against the fans of chickenfoot, some of you seem like pretty cool cats. But others? I wonder. I really really wonder sometimes….
Drop dead legs is STILL an amazing rock song. The lyrics and the way its sang makes it memorable. Anyone who has a problem with lyrics about a nice pair of legs on a woman 20 something years later is sad. I’ll still be crankin that song when im fuckin 50 man. And guess what? I’ll still be checkin’ out all those drop dead legs too! ;)

its cool to see VH referances here and there- its been going on for years. the ‘ drew carey show ” mentioned van halen several times.

it is NOT part of a VH-planned-promo-conspiracy.

it IS the fans of VH who work in the media using the oppurtunity any of us would do if we could- and that is to nerdgasm over our favorite things. nothing more.

the twitter/facebook thing is different, that ed’s “handlers” laying the groundwork for promoting VH merchandise. but tv spots and mvoie scores are not a clue to anything other than there are a lot of VH fans out there. it doesnt have anything to do with a new VH record.

  • Bluesbro

Dirty Duck, I am 50. Maybe teeny bop was the wrong term, since it normally refers to a young teenaged girl. I would say most of the classic VH lyrics were trying to appeal to the young teen male instead. Here is a cut and paste of Drop Dead Legs lyrics.

    Drop dead legs, pretty smile,
Hurts my head, gets me wild.
    Dig that steam, giant butt,
Makes me scream, I get nuh-nuh-nothing but the shakes over you
And nothing else could ever do.
    Chorus:
You know that you want it.
    I know what it is.
You know that you want it, baby,
When the night is through, will I still be loving you ?
    Dig those moves, vam-pire
Set me loose, get it higher.
    Throw my rope, loop-de-loop
    Nice white teeth, betty boop.
    Set it cool real heavy.
    I aint fooled, gettin ready.

I agree that it is a great song, and Roth sings it great (even with his fake falsetto at the end of every line). But the lyrics, come on man. This stuff is almost below juvenile. There is no question that the VH songs with the deeper lyrical content overall are the latter albums … but that makes sense as they were more mature artists.

Anyway, just one mans opinion. Music is totally relative though, so whatever turns you on is what is works.

Seth MacFarlane has good taste! What else can you say? – (other than that’s hard to find these days!)

How sweet would it be to see Stewie as one of the band in a parody of the “Hot For Teacher” video?

    “I brought my pencil…”

Help me please! Van Halen – “Dreams” was used on a tribute news cast about The Space Shuttle Challenger disaster which occurred on January 28, 1986, just more than 24 years ago. I cannot begin to tell you how that day forever changed my life. However, that Van Halen song, “DREAMS” always makes me weep when I hear it. I would greatly appreciate anyone’s knowledge of where I can get a video copy of that newscaster’s Van Halen’s DREAMS tribute to those astronauts who paid the ultimate sacrifice for living and dying for theirs (& ours)”DREAMS.”
    Thank you.
