Van Halen rehearses some fan favorite deep tracks!
Wednesday, 2 September 2009
Eddie Van Halen just tweeted. (For EVH’s Twitter page, click here.)
“Wolfie, Alex and I rehearsed today and had a blast!
We played a bunch of songs that we didn’t play on the last tour like “Drop Dead Legs”, “Girl Gone Bad” and “Outta Love Again”!
And just jammed a bit. Haven’t played these songs for a long time but they sound f’ing amazing!”

This is good news but we need tweets about new material! How come Dave wasn’t there? Just an instrumental i guess.
September 2nd, 2009 at 1:55 pm
Was Dave even at their wedding?
September 2nd, 2009 at 1:58 pm
Good to hear. Really looking forward to new material with Dave.
September 2nd, 2009 at 1:58 pm
Very cool…
Three of my favourite VH songs!
“Outta love again” kicks ass man….
September 2nd, 2009 at 1:59 pm
looks like eddie’s hand is healing faster than expected. any news on a 2007/2008 dvd ?
September 2nd, 2009 at 2:01 pm
Good choice of songs. Love DDL and love the solo in OLA.
September 2nd, 2009 at 2:05 pm
Dave better his ass in the studio,or ed’s gonna give Patti the “WARRIOR” a call!
September 2nd, 2009 at 2:05 pm
hear about it later
September 2nd, 2009 at 2:05 pm
I don’t know anything about twitter. Can you respond to someone’s post?
September 2nd, 2009 at 2:06 pm
this is good, he is doing this the right way.
organically, from scratch. he finally has the business side where he always wanted it ( HE is van halen and the rest work for him ) for better or worse, but at least that won’t be a nuisance to him or driving him to drink.
if he had done it sooner who knows? maybe he wouldnt have wasted most of the 2000’s.
i like that they are jamming deep cut classics- they need that sound back - gritty real classic rock.
ed seems really enthused ( not in the ” ten albums…” BS way he was in the past ) and they are keen to perform well.
….now…. how soon before dave gets up there ?
..and who’s producing ?
September 2nd, 2009 at 2:07 pm
Next tweet….. playing Guitar Hero VH while sitting on a pile of cash. Milkin the old tunes cause im tapped out on ideas. DLR is tourin the strip clubs for the next year. Its funny but true….he was at the one in Orlando before the show.
September 2nd, 2009 at 2:07 pm
Getting any new material from Van Halen isnt going to happen anytime soon. Its ashame.
September 2nd, 2009 at 2:09 pm
How about a little Dirty Movies and some Me Wise Magic. Thats right. By the way, just saw Chickenfoot Saturday in Myrtle Beach. Man, I really miss Mikey. It would just be so cool.
One more thing. Still needing the 83 Oakland show. Preferably bundled with a Blu Ray of the last tour.

September 2nd, 2009 at 2:10 pm
Awesome songs! Hopefuuly EVH will be telling us about new tunes soon.
September 2nd, 2009 at 2:36 pm
I wonder if Ed decided to start with Twitter so that all the fans whining about no new music will shut up thinking something is actually in the works. When in fact, he’s probably been jamming with Al and Wolfie all these wasted years and nothing new is actually in the works. The fact he tweets about it doesn’t make it any more likely things are progressing.
September 2nd, 2009 at 2:38 pm
I love OLA & DDL!!!!! Man hope they practice “In A Simple Rhyme” too!!
September 2nd, 2009 at 2:42 pm
Thanks for communicating with us VH junkies we appreciate it EVH!!!!!!!!!!
September 2nd, 2009 at 3:01 pm
Maybe just maybe now that Ed’s wife seems to be behind this sudden burst of news we may be closer to some real VH news about the future of the band. This could be there way of getting the fans wild up for (cross my fingers) a new album and tour.
September 2nd, 2009 at 3:16 pm
I’m glad to hear about the good news; seems like things are going to Eddies liking, 3 piece jams to warm up the machine then call Dave and set up the rehearsals for the new tracks; probably take like a month to record then promote and we see the mighty Van Halen again in 2010 with a new album; hopefully a double CD with all the backlog of 25 years of writing going, I can hardly wait!!!
September 2nd, 2009 at 3:19 pm
Yeah, bust out In a Simple Rhyme. What a great tune. That song would sound so awesome with a 5150 III head pushing it! Outta Love Again is a long time personal favorite Nice suprise.
September 2nd, 2009 at 3:24 pm
Be careful…don’t get too stoked up yet. It’s waaay too soon. Digging up some old VH chestnuts is one thing…hammering out new material with Dave is a bigger challenge, the last quarter century tells us. But if it happens and it’s good, I’m in. Meanwhile, we got CF and I just saw AC DC in Tacoma…oh yeah!!!
September 2nd, 2009 at 3:37 pm
*yawn*
September 2nd, 2009 at 3:53 pm
Oh yea I cannot wait…I am going start holding my breath now in anticipation of all the amazing music we’ll NEVER hear.
Stop messing around with DLR and do what Chickenfoot did. Make some NEW (did you hear me VH bros NEW) music with somebody else. Take a risk for goodness sake we’ll all respect more in the morning.
Dave’s done. End of story. Voice = wasted.
September 2nd, 2009 at 4:12 pm
van halen is probably going to do the kiss circuit, 5 farewell tours then start dressing no name musicians up like dave and sammy.
September 2nd, 2009 at 4:17 pm
@Joe - You can’t directly Tweet someone unless THEY already follow YOU, but you can “ReTweet” or “RT” someone else’s Tweet to YOUR followers… In that case, many Twitter-friendly applications have the ability to show what they call “mentions” in your Tweets, that sends a copy of the “ReTweet” to the original sender, assuming you keep their “@name” in there… So in the case of Ed’s Tweets, if you ReTweet Ed’s three Tweets to YOUR followers, and his application shows mentions as well as direct Tweets, he’ll see them….
Hope that doesn’t thoroughly confuse you, but honestly, Twitter is very, very easy to work….
@Chris Van Harley - You mean the ‘81 Oakland show….
September 2nd, 2009 at 4:21 pm
the future is now
September 2nd, 2009 at 4:23 pm
I went back and read the post where EVH tells Spike TV that he will record again with DLR. I then went back a read it again and again and again. I think I will survive another day.
September 2nd, 2009 at 4:27 pm
How unfortunate for us RickieVanHalen!!!
September 2nd, 2009 at 4:29 pm
That’s right guitar zero you make me yawn you boring moron!!!
September 2nd, 2009 at 4:29 pm
LOL at jrod 2009! Kudos, man, that was the funniest thing I’ve read today!!!
September 2nd, 2009 at 4:32 pm
scowgirl, your an idiot!!! Your done, end of story putz!!!
September 2nd, 2009 at 4:33 pm
that`s all we can ask for RickyV.W.One day at a time buddy.
September 2nd, 2009 at 4:37 pm
They also played “Fools” for all the hater’s!!!!!
September 2nd, 2009 at 4:37 pm
jrod,i`ll say it again:”dream another dream-That dream is over”
September 2nd, 2009 at 4:40 pm
We, the fans, shouldn’t get our hopes up because they are dusting off old tunes. Classics, by the way. When we hear about new tunes, A live dvd, box set, new album/tour, THEN we can get excited. Untill then, we still have Chickenfoot.
September 2nd, 2009 at 4:40 pm
scowboy:
That sounds like your best Idea yet.Do It.
September 2nd, 2009 at 5:08 pm
I love twitter and it’s good to see VH is with the times.
JB
September 2nd, 2009 at 5:25 pm
We,the fans,SHOULD get our hopes up!!!
ED`S fucking leaving “daily”(so far)”twitters”!!!
WHO saw that coming???
They`re “warming up” by playin`some of thier heaviest
DLR tunes. How the Hell is that a Bad sign???
Notice Ed didn`t list anyVHGRtunes?
Starting to come around now?
=VH= is picking up where they left off with DLR.
END OF STORY!!!!
CHNFT is as CLOSE as your gonna get to VHGR for a long time.
Deal With IT!!
September 2nd, 2009 at 5:32 pm
very cool, keep on jamming boys!
September 2nd, 2009 at 6:16 pm
Sweet. When my friend and I saw VH in Jan ‘08. Among the tunes we were missing were Drop Dead legs, as well as Top Jimmy. Me personally, I also wanted to hear In a Simple Rhyme, Hear About it later and Dirty Movies. Really looking forward to new DLR stuff too. It would be great if Dave reared his head soon, especially in close proximity to the rest of the band, like at rehearsal.
September 2nd, 2009 at 6:16 pm
So we have Good news, Ed, Al and Wolf are playing classic obscure tunes, and people are bitchin!?
C’mon people this is amazing news comming from a band that almost didn’t exist a couple of years ago.
Things are looking good for the future of VH, we should be happy.
Not asking them to release the crap CF did.
Dave will be at the studio when needed, right now he can be doin’ whatever he wants.
September 2nd, 2009 at 6:21 pm
Thank you Janie and Wolfie for putting Ed on Twitter.
I don’t follow it personally, but it is good to see Ed connecting with the fans.
September 2nd, 2009 at 6:25 pm
Oh yeah, I forgot Mean Streets. How the hell could I forget that?
September 2nd, 2009 at 6:28 pm
The perfect intro to the first show of the next tour…..Tora! Tora! & Loss Of Control
The perfect ending…..One Foot Out The Door
September 2nd, 2009 at 6:50 pm
Girl Gone Bad….great song. I get a huge Zeppelin vibe from just about the whole thing. (think Achille’s Last Stand) Love that song, and Drop Dead Legs.
September 2nd, 2009 at 7:20 pm
That’s it I’m starting a Twitter account!!!
September 2nd, 2009 at 7:39 pm
Just hope the hand is ok! I’m glad their having fun. Summer 2010 will be the release of the new album ,I just wish a DVD with the 2008 tour was in the works. To hear those old songs with modern sound quality and the renewed energy they had would be treasured forever!
September 2nd, 2009 at 7:44 pm
Lots of people want new music. Lots of people want the old music played on a tour. Some want an album and hope there will be one, while others want an album and have no hope. Some people are sarcastic, while some are angry, but others are happy due to a “tweet.” Let us all share some pie.
September 2nd, 2009 at 7:52 pm
As long as they keep playing Girl Gone Bad and Drop Dead Legs, who cares about new material. This kicks ass.
September 2nd, 2009 at 8:07 pm
Phillster is SO right. HOw is ANY of this bad? People need to cheer up and just relax. Ed is practicing GGB with the band and people whine. I’m floored by the retards complaining about this. Next thing we’ll hear is that they’re practicing House of Pain. Then the people will really complain while I’m crying tears of joy.
I’m headed on vacation. SCAR and Phillster, hold this place together while I’m gone.
p.s. I’d kill for Hear About It Later too.
September 2nd, 2009 at 8:10 pm
Did not have a personal reason to join Twitter until this post. I’m follower #1733. Although it will be cool to be #1984 or 5150.
September 2nd, 2009 at 8:30 pm
If no DLR, I’d love to see VH reinterpret classics or do one-off new tunes with the likes of Scott Weiland, Chris Cornell, Dave Grohl, Mick Jagger, etc. No albums necessary. Just straight to iTunes. Let’s have fun again. Let’s come up with our best matches. I say David Bowie fronts Sinners Swing. Who’s got another one? VHND SHOULD SET UP SOME READER POLLS.
September 2nd, 2009 at 8:34 pm
How ’bout Chris Robinson fronts Take Your Whiskey Home?
September 2nd, 2009 at 8:36 pm
Humans Beings, Seventh Seal, Cabo Wabo, Top of the World, Dreams, Good Enough, Right Now, Dream is over, Love comes walking in, Judgment Day, Dead or Alive, Little Dreamer, Take your whiskey home, Year to the day, without you, mean street, Up for Breakfast, Hear about it later, Full Bug, I’ll wait. Thats Classic Van Halen
September 2nd, 2009 at 9:51 pm
Anyone who thinks this tweet (or the MySpace page) really came from Ed is delusional. It’s the wife, people! Go back and watch the paparazzi video from last month and tell me that Eddie (”Huh? Say again? Oh, I don’t watch the show”) is the one writing this stuff. Come on.
I’d love to hear “Drop Dead Legs” and “Girl Gone Bad,” and I don’t doubt that they rehearsed them in the studio without DLR, but it’s a little lame to have the wife tweeting about it for him, don’t you think?
September 2nd, 2009 at 10:02 pm
Look,we thought that eddie and dave would never form VAN HALEN again so to all you doubters out there who dont think a new cd is comin’.NEVER SAY NEVER!!!!
September 2nd, 2009 at 11:18 pm
who cares if someone is relaying what he says to his tweets, its still information that we dont normally get. quit your bitching and just wait
September 2nd, 2009 at 11:30 pm
SCAR says: “scowgirl, your an idiot!!! Your done, end of story putz!!!”
Um…wouldn’t that be, “You’re an idiot,” and “You’re done,”?
Putz, indeed.
September 2nd, 2009 at 11:54 pm
this is the first time we have heard anything from him and his band in years!!
they must be reading these posts or I bet his wife and wolf have told him that even if he throws scraps our way like this we will be move than happy
great news to hear him back on the guitar.
d.d.legs could be the best song by classic van halen.
as for dave he only comes by to sing on tour and to record the studio as far as im concerned. i dont think they hang out at all. anyway if this what is going on then FINALLY some REAL news and good news for that matter!
I think wolf and his wife are a huge pos. influence on ed and i am beginning to let go of my anger with the band in the last 10 years…
September 3rd, 2009 at 12:51 am
TheTruthHurts, I’ll do spell it this time, just for you, I promise!!! Your’e an idiot ThetruthHurts, and your’e done!!! How was that??? Was it good for you??? It was for me!!! Later putz!!!!
September 3rd, 2009 at 1:08 am
Did you catch that ThetruthHurts??? Let’s see if you can catch the mistake in good ol Scar’s latest post!!!! O.K.? Now the rest of you boys and girls out there please be quiet and don’t tell TheTruthHurts what it is!! Hard huh? Need help??? Jeepers, I’ll give you a hint (this time it’s a grammar mistake)!!! Did you find it yet??? Good for you!!! Now since you have been sooooooooo smart lately, I’m going to give you extra dingle berry cookies with your spoiled milk!!!! Isn’t this fun???? Putz, indeed.
September 3rd, 2009 at 2:47 am
great Eddie, but fans loves Hagars songs too… not only Dave songs. Greetings!
September 3rd, 2009 at 3:58 am
My god we need some new tunes from VH one of the greatest bands the world has ever seen and no new tunes what a FKN shame come on boys what you waighting for you don’t know how luckey you are EDDIE to have such loyal fans since all the BS and Crap you have put us through over the years shit or get off the pot
September 3rd, 2009 at 4:52 am
That’s neat that 3 of the 4 are jamming together. now only Dave, Sam, Mitch, or Gary would show up to sing. Oh, that’s right, Sam, Mitch, and Gary are out doing new stuff.
September 3rd, 2009 at 5:44 am
I always thought that Drop dead legs was rather Ed’s and Al favorite tune, because it was one of the few where he could jam a little with brother (like ending of House of Pain or middle of Humans Being).
September 3rd, 2009 at 6:04 am
Who gives a tweet? Jam on something new!!! Then record it!!! And get SOMEONE to sing it!!!! Yeesh.
September 3rd, 2009 at 6:06 am
Jrod, That was the best post on the chain. Dressing other guys up like Dave and Sam. Awesome. On that note I am still hopeful for new music. Ed is obviously coming out of a dark place back into life.
September 3rd, 2009 at 7:12 am
Great songs, but it’s weird to demonstrate proof of “life and productivity” by stating you’re practicing songs from so long ago. I’d be happier to hear they were working on something new.
Girl Gone Bad is one of my favorite Dave-era tunes. I love the background vox in them, but given the last tour, I hold little hope of hearing them faithfully reproduced unless they pipe in Mike’s vocal again like they did in a few places during the last tour.
September 3rd, 2009 at 7:17 am
Bag the facebook, twitter, myspace, etc. and give them a youtube page!! I’d rather see a video of them rehearsing these tunes vs. reading that they played some old stuff.
September 3rd, 2009 at 7:31 am
BFD ! Why can he just come out and say it ??? Why this secretive elusive BS ? Dude can’t even be honest and just spill the beans about what the real plans. It’s simple Ed … Just say Yes or No … Dave is the lead singer of VH.
Plus, why you holding back on live DVD’s etc ? We all want to know.
September 3rd, 2009 at 7:37 am
Enjoy your vacation skutch, you`ve earned it
September 3rd, 2009 at 7:53 am
Scowboy&thetruthhurts:don`t forget to use a condem fellas;)
Tenacious:the =VH= bros scrapped that idea in `85-because it sucked.
Thetruthhurts:Looks like”stephan” could use a spelling coach,
why don`t you&scowboy pay him a visit;)
September 3rd, 2009 at 7:58 am
Bort; Is that your middle name?(as in aBORTion)
it fits
September 3rd, 2009 at 8:04 am
Eddie has always withheld information from the people who care,(his fans).hes a frickin headcase, and if you don’t know that by now, your about as retarded as SCAR. You cant believe a word eddie says.He may be the king of guitar (agreed),but hes got some bi polar or Scar syndrome. yes scar u are the putz ,and we all know it.
September 3rd, 2009 at 8:15 am
I`ll let you in on a little secret Keith,
DLR IS in the band.
September 3rd, 2009 at 8:17 am
After reading Ed’s message I’m actually optimistic about the future of VH. He’s playing with Alex & Wolfie, he’s re-discovering his earlier songs, and most importantly, they “just jammed a bit.” Jamming leads to memorable riffs, which leads to new songs. Let’s wait and see… but as Tom Petty says “The waiting is the hardest part.”
September 3rd, 2009 at 8:29 am
EDDIE is gonna walk on water
& you BOOBS are going to turn to each other
& say”LOOK!!-he can`t even swim!!!”
it must suck being so hopeless all the time.
poor bastards:(
September 3rd, 2009 at 8:37 am
Hey Phiister! do u work for Van halen? all this stuff you seem to think you know is all a bunch of crap. You and Scar should move in together. PS: Keith,I hear what your saying bro.Enough with the BS.We’ve all had enough with the games. Why can’t Ed just be a man? and not a teenager.
September 3rd, 2009 at 8:54 am
Blake, I’m really flattered you would use my own word against me!!! Would you like some chewy dingle berry cookies to go with that whine? I could whip up a batch for you putz!!!!! Later hater!!!!
September 3rd, 2009 at 8:59 am
Keith, dude relax, if you don’t, you’ll end up like blake!!! Now, do you really want that to happen?
September 3rd, 2009 at 8:59 am
Hey Scar, great comeback. Thanks for proving my point. And, very smooth, by the way, trying to pretend like you purposely put grammatical errors in your post. Nice. Is this a school room? Of course not. But when *you’re* calling someone an idiot, it kind of shoots down your credibility when you can’t even write or spell.
September 3rd, 2009 at 9:02 am
Blake,blake,blake,as a matter of fact i do.
Could you be more specific about the “bunch of crap”?
Maybe i can help,-then again,Maybe I won`t.
Sounds like your past it.
September 3rd, 2009 at 9:13 am
Now those are Van Halen songs…love it, man. Can’t wait to hear them live.
September 3rd, 2009 at 9:29 am
Well, I guess another reunion $$$$$ tour is better than nothing. How come I don’t hear or see Dave anywhere.
September 3rd, 2009 at 10:08 am
That’s great news! Now if they could only agree on playing “Hear About It Later” too. That intro just kills me everytime I hear it!
September 3rd, 2009 at 10:15 am
It looks as if Phaggot and SCARed are up to their usual tricks. It’s kind of funny how they think they regulate everyone on here. You can just imagine them sitting in a dark room at their parents house talking to themselves about how “cool” they are.
But, guys, I’m not a hater- I’m just here to congratulate you two on behalf of the VHND community for being the “torchbearers,”…no,no… the “VANguard” of everything Van Halen because without you, we lowly, unworthy simpletons wouldn’t be able to function much less form an opinion on what we think is our favorite band. And, that is with your permission, of course.
September 3rd, 2009 at 11:18 am
why isnt dave rehersing with the band ?????
September 3rd, 2009 at 12:05 pm
Total PR. Ed tweeting- Yeah! How about palying some new music ED? Put some jam together with the boys and get out there for your fans to hear! Jesus! It’s 2009!!!!!!!!!, not 1984
September 3rd, 2009 at 12:29 pm
I guess even being a ‘Fan’ of VH makes you in-fight!…HAHAHA….Anyways I think it is great to hear about Ed Jamming in the studio….This is where Inspiration comes from. And parent these a couple of the tunes every one wanted to hear at the last tour anyways???
September 3rd, 2009 at 12:51 pm
Mike will always be irreplaceable
September 3rd, 2009 at 12:58 pm
Dave may be singing for them, but I get the feeling that he is not, nor will he ever be again, a true member of the band.
September 3rd, 2009 at 1:38 pm
Eddie, NEW ALBUM, NEW ALBUM!!! Van Halen must play Hagars songs too… but Dave in Amsterdam, Top Of The World? He can’t sing like Sammy
September 3rd, 2009 at 1:41 pm
Let’s discuss the power of those three tracks that eddie just mentioned. Let’s start with “Outta Love again” shall we? How fucking cool is that song guys? Mike’s bass in the opening is so cool and when al’s drums kick in you know he’s knockin’ at your door! Eddie’s solo and al’s combined make for one hell of a break huh? And lets not forget the toastmaster himself! Dave’s vocals are stellar! STELLAR!
His classic scream sounds so primal….love it!
It’s funny when you’ve been listening to rock stations for years and you wonder why the hell they never play certain songs. I dont know about you fella’s but out here on long island it’s the same old songs everyday. I used to fantasize that one day i’d own my own rock station and play all the obscure stuff from my fav rock albums! How cool would it be to hear “Outta love again” on the radio?
“Drop Dead Legs” is another classic gem because of the style of the song and the way dave sings it. It’s almost like he’s singing that way cause he wants to have sex with this chick so bad….his privates hurt! Thats what i get when i hear it! But we all know that dave got laid anyway….
“Girl Gone Bad”….all I can say is: WOW. One of the most stellar songs VH has ever made. To start off we all know that the instrumental for the song was first heard during the US Festival in 83. That whole jam session between eddie and al? (One of my favourite parts of that show next to al’s drum solo)Legend has it that eddie came up with that riff while he was away with val on their honeymoon. He didnt want to wake her so he went into a closet and hummed it into a tape recorder. (Funny how the best songs are born huh?)That song alone shows what VH was at one time….a fuckin’ rock monster. The back ground vocals alone STILL give me goosbumps to this day and the last 20 seconds make my stomach feel like i did the first day of christmas as a kid. Does anyone know what i’m sayin? It excites me that much! LOL! Dave sounds damn good too…I love the different sounds he adds to it…brings that whole thing together beautifully. Man, 1984 was such a killer album. Shit…it still is!
Lets cross our fingers and hope that this will all lead to that “magic” that has been missing in VH for quite sometime….
September 3rd, 2009 at 1:54 pm
So What?? This is NOT new material, new music!!
Where is the new songs?? And why Dave is not there, rehearsing???
Eddie, Alex and Wolfie = “Two And A Half Man”
If Dave is not there, i don“t care.
Stop playing the old stuff and DO IT SOMETHING NEW man!!
Do you hear me Eddie??
September 3rd, 2009 at 2:16 pm
hey ducky dirty duck! you my man, know your van halen.thats the kind of stuff i can relate to..but thats o.k. at least you know your shit.i was listening to us festival on cassette tape a few weeks after they played the show.my buddy brought a boom box in and recorded it from close to stage.i’ve heard it and seen it about 100 times.it’s the best show in the history of rock and roll.”fuck the concert, lets go across the freeway and get a drink”
September 3rd, 2009 at 3:04 pm
Too much anger on this site. Chill out dudes. My paxil kicked in and I feel like DLR will return with the boys. You want some SCAR?
Note - I proofed this post for you dude!
September 3rd, 2009 at 3:39 pm
Dont care if it’s Dave, Sam, or Gary singing. Ed and Alex are Van Halen. If you’re a true VH fan, you appreciate all the music they have put out over their musical career.
Lets hope Ed’s hand heals right, and we see the original VH get back together (come back Mikey). Rock needs a kick in the ass and who better to do it. I can’t stand Twitter or Myspace, but since they’ve got their sites up I’ll look the other way and join.
Those of you whining about VH, go listen to your Emo music and fall off the face of the earth.
September 3rd, 2009 at 4:40 pm
Outta love is a bonafide classic duck and yes the break is astounding and deserves more credit. To communicate musically the way al and ed do on that track has never been matched imo but i’ll take light up the sky next.VhII is awesome and very raw.Basically ed had a cranked marshall and nothing else and it sounded outta of this world. This is a good day.100 posts and asscar didn’t write 70 of them.Hey asscar i’m impressed. So well spoken with dynamite people skills but offering neighbors free booze and food on your grill in the backyard to bribe them into being your friends does not mean your a bar and grill owner. Also the guys bringing their wives to the free get together is not really like having hot chicks at your place. While technically still chicks, yes, they are taken with lives of their own.good spelling to. asscar, way to go.i’m sure there will be a reply within 2 minutes seeing that your computer is on the vhnd site 24/7.
September 3rd, 2009 at 5:46 pm
Hey Man,
Usually I am the first one to bash EVH for not releasing new music and all that, BUT I just got my EVH shoes and damn these muthajammers are cool. I just made love to my wife wearing nothing else. F&*K man, is this what it feels like Eddie? LOVE IT>
Although not as much as a DVD of the 81 Oakland Show. hint hint.

You know… it’s comments like Chris’ above that make me realize that there are some of here who would probably jump at the chance to sell organs to Eddie if he was in need… Just to say “I’m a little piece of Van Halen.”
What would it take for you some of you guys to get over your giant MAN crushes on the guy? Does he have to degrade the good name of some people? Lie? Kill a litter of puppies?
Seriously… I love Van Halen, but I don’t worship Ed likes he’s some kind of Idol.
Some of you are coo-coo-LoCo!!

I’m sure Scar wasn’t too ramped up from the news of this post. Maybe if she hears that they’re (or is it their or there…hell, Scar wouldn’t know the difference) rehearsing I’ll Wait, When It’s Love, and Pleasure Dome, she’ll finally drum up the courage to ask the special-ed aide who walks her to lunch if she would help her arrange her peas into the shape of a VH. God bless the retarded rock fan. ROCK ON, SCAR…WE’RE ALL ROOTING FOR YOU!

Glad to hear Ed is polishing up the 25+ year old tunes. Sounds like another tour is gearing up…$100 a pop to hear stuff off VH2 and 1984.
September 4th, 2009 at 3:23 am
I have one thing to say “allright, gigiddy, gigiddy”. Also,it’s always been reherse first then jam leads to new music. Also,if Dave is ever asked to sing a Van Hagar tune,I think it should be ok for Ed to play “Yankee rose” or any other Diamond studded song. I would love to hear “Me wise magic”.
September 4th, 2009 at 5:14 am
This is nothing but good news!!! Most of you guys bashing will NEVER be happy!!
Get warmed up Ed, and then bring on the fury……..I’ll wait!!
September 4th, 2009 at 6:40 am
Eddie, where is new material ??? Stop playing only Daves songs! :((
September 4th, 2009 at 6:53 am
Ed just had surgery on the hand…..good to hear him working it out some…….give it some time and he will be back in the groove working that “brown sound” again…
September 4th, 2009 at 6:59 am
The “Van Halens” are going to jam and record what sounds awesome…..the bugs get worked out in production and I do believe that Alex has the best producers in his shirt pocket….he knows EVERYONE
September 4th, 2009 at 8:01 am
Good point john!!
If they are using those songs as a reference for production on a new album,as well as a means to warming up, then we can expect a pretty kick ass new album when they do record!!
BRING IT ON!!!
September 4th, 2009 at 8:45 am
Fat chance on any new music. Period. And if that fat chance come around, it better be VH worthy, cuz “Me Wise Magic”/”Can’t Get This Stuff”/It’s About Time”/”Up for Breakfast”/etc. ain’t gonna cut it. I’m not holding my breath.
September 4th, 2009 at 8:57 am
Gosh, I hope that made you feel better Bubbaco!!! Have a nice day and say hello to your Mom for me!!!!!

Darren from Brooklyn:
It sure would be great to hear “yankee rose” live huh?
And as far a “me wise magic” is concerned, its good to see someone even mention it! Even though the vocals arent perfect I truly love that song man. It has such a great vibe to it and until dave tries to hit the high notes…his voice sounds so cool. I think he could pull it off live. I mean…I was pretty suprised when i saw them tour back in 2006 how well he hit the high notes. Dave is still the man…flaws and all. Thats what makes a true rocker baby.
Like dave once said: even my favourite boots have holes in em’….
Do you believe?

Blake!
Thanks for the good word brother! Loved your post!
I wish I could get a better copy of VH at the US FEST!
I have a shitty VHS version. Do you have a good copy by any chance? Did you say you SAW that show back in 83′? Big thumbs up from L.I. if you did man. Would love to hear stories about it…
Classic =vh= forever!
September 4th, 2009 at 1:41 pm
I was at the US and saw Van Halen 5 rows back…..What a show and what an Ending to a day of 100 plus temps and great Rock Bands!!!!They were so fucking loud!!!!!!
September 4th, 2009 at 8:03 pm
It’s great that VH are jamin’on deep Classic jems of their
catalog. They probly did jam on other deep Classic songs but
just did not have room to list the on their twitter&my space
pages.Besides a DVD Video of their ‘07-’08 Comeback Tour how
about a DVD Video BoxSet ‘78-85 of their orinal prime.I want
to hear new songs as well the Classics.Light Up The Sky,DOA

Piece Suit,Sorcr Of Effection,Me Wise Magic,All Fair Warning

September 5th, 2009 at 6:00 am
I hope they do “Me Wise Magic” on the next tour or “Top Jimmy” the baddest cat alive
September 5th, 2009 at 8:33 am
hey duck! i talk to you later about us festival.
September 5th, 2009 at 1:27 pm
Those tunes are GEMS!
September 5th, 2009 at 4:18 pm
Dave is a hired hand at this point. They cannot stand being in the same room with him. VH is playing songs that are 25 or more years old and this is “news.” A new VH album will be one, I believe, made up of guest vocalists. At least release old concerts on dvd.
September 5th, 2009 at 11:06 pm
i would not be so quick to demand new tunes
i like the fact that ed is exploring the deep classic
catalog
you will not hear a sammy or gary era song out of the guy ever again and i really like van hagar so deal with it people
this is much better than before so see it for what it is
real news (not some nonesense dlr chick song crap) and him playing songs we true fans want to hear
of course best of both worlds, summer nights and the dam rule but again the sammy era is over
at least it is not the gary era and dave is off. still on board
so what if he is not there jamming
they have it arranged so it works
dave flies in and they do gigs and hopefully will record soon. i dont have a problem with an arrangement that works
too much dave and ed and alex means no van halen so quick ya bitchin!
September 6th, 2009 at 8:05 pm
they won’t have a fourth singer.
they won’t have a “supernatural” album with multi-singers.
dave will NEVER sing a hagar song.
ed practically ignored classic VH during the hagar years, now its flipside. ed is revisiting the brown-sound CVH tone that made them the hiers to led zeppelin.
dave and the halens have a servicable understanding. a loveless marriage- but an effective one. they are way too old, and way too tired to carry a grudge.
dave on his own will never be as good as van halen.
van halen without sam or dave might be interesting but won’t sell records. or be as amazing.
the fact that the reunuion tour held together, in spite of ed’s mandatory rehab ( thankfully ) delaying the tour for quality-
the fact that there has been no trash-talk
the fact that ed is not longing for a new singer
the fact that ed has fallen back in love with CVH
the fact that ed WANTS the legacy to have more luster for wolfie
the fact that dave ( gag-orders notwithstanding) has NOT done any solo work
..all of this tells me they will do another record- at least an EP and tour again.
we were ALL skeptical about the reunion. we all thought it would epic-fail.
we were wrong. finally, van halen was right, and i think they have finally figured it out.

Outta love again. The best song on II

Jor-L5150
You said it man!! God bless you & Van Halen!!!
September 8th, 2009 at 8:48 am
Saw Dave last month at The G in New York, was there with two other guys. I never noticed him but someone at the front of the door ( we were trying to get in to a club ) did and asked him if he’s going to start recording anything new. His comment was ” Would be nice but if you’re gnna hold your breath better get a scuba tank…….
For some reason he seemed just odd. You know when your young and idolize a band then see one of them 26 years later and you think they should look and act just as it was back in 1983 when I met him backstage.
September 9th, 2009 at 4:34 pm
:^* << me holding my breath
September 9th, 2009 at 9:24 pm
the dude, that is funny….
JOR-L5150, some of the best points made and probably the single best post on this topic.
but, everyone, lets face it, VH hasn’t even released a real album in almost 15 years, and its been 25 since they’ve been in the studio with dave.
September 16th, 2009 at 11:29 am
I’d hold my breath until the tour gets rolling. It may be that during the tour they could start writing some more tunes/lyrics. I say more because Ed has openly talked about the songs he has “in the can” and ready for some vocals. I suspect that some of the delay might be on Dave’s end. After all, he’s not in the studio. What do you think?
