Two new Chickenfoot songs unofficially leaked

Two never-heard Chickenfoot songs showed up on Youtube today, posted by a fan. The sound quality of these two clips is very poor. Naturally, the actual CD will sound far better.

Get It Up:

Learning To Fall:

  • Shayne

sweet and it just keeps getting better and better

  • Deja Vu

Keep em comin boys. Cant wait for the album and Boston show. Wish I could be in LA for the album signing. Im sure the line will be around the block. There’s only one way to rock, CHICKENFOOT!!!!!!!!!

  • phil

  • http://www.myspace.com/aarxn aarxn

Chad kinda looks like Bub from Day Of The Dead!

  • DANNYBOY

After an earlier post I can now say, these two songs are really damn good, GET IT UP in particular! Man that guitar sounds great! GET IT UP gives hope that guitars and real rock can return to the forefront again-If Chickenfoot can claw its way up the charts and place some rock&roll voodoo on all these American Idol/pussy acts that dominate the scene right than more power to them. Now when the wedding, graduation, second hip replacement, officially licensed striped vibrator,guitar-rock band hero something or other, dvd on the behind the scenes of the making of the Wolfgang guitar etc is finally out of the way….ladies and gentleman the new VAN HALEN VIRTUAL DISC RELEASE 2020 featuring never before released footage of the auction of Eds classic automobiles in the year 2009!!!

  • http://none Chuck

Wow, Sammy and the guys would NOT approve of this, yet you release them anyway. Hmmm, Ethics anyone???? I guess not.

  • blindbubbacheeks

I’m kind of with Chuck on this one. Takes balls to add those leaked songs.

  • MA=VH

Screw ethics, these songs, especially Get It Up, friggin rocked. Hard. Solid. Tight.
Damn, I can hardly wait until their show in T.O. on the 24th….

    MA=VH

  • Jeremy

    Holy crap!

Sounds good and yet there are no posts bashing it yet?

Good! Stay over on the Guitar Hero article and we will enjoy this!

  • bchurch5150

it seems to me that, lyrically, sammy was a far better writer with van halen, even on the 3 new(er) songs from best of both worlds “learning to see” was great lyrically i think.. anyone else agree? oh well at least its fresh music, far better than nothing at all i suppose.. now its time for ed to play catch up and hit the record button and really blow us all away!! 0: )

  • shawn

I really loved Learning to Fall all the way through. Get it Up has good part and some parts I can live without, maybe better live. I am a fan!!!

  • BigJ

Not bad, Get it Up really jams, but damn it Sammy what’s with the Mexican yayeeba yayeeba yell, ruins the damn thing. Sometimes less is more Sammy. If Sammy could just get back to VH Sammy and not Cabo Sammy he would be awesome again.

  • bosephus

This is Chickenfoot on steroids — big, bad, and almost illegal. I love it.

  • Rick

Seriously guys, this is your much awaited rock ‘n roll supergroup? This time really made an effort to listen first and then judge. Get it up: Musically, even VHIII beats this by miles. And were is the singing? I just hear someone screaming, and not in a good way. Learning to Fall: I guess this is the CF attempt to sound like Led Zeppelin. Unfortunately, Sam is no Robert Plant, neither from the timbre of his voice nor lyrically. Sorry, but its really a bit laughable. Satch’s tone and play is ok I guess, but does this really excite you? As a song, even Sam “Loud” had way more punch than this.

  • stew

Wake me up when this is over !!!! Eddie , Dave where are you?

  • craig

Getting harder to be critical of this stuff.

    These are great tunes!!

May not be the second coming of Zeppelin or Halen but in today’s rock world this is a solid offering that we should welcome with open arms!!

I think I even read a back handed compliment to Joe in one of our resident critics posts. “Satch’s tone and play is ok I guess” What the hell does it take to impress you???? He may not be Eddie but come on!!!! Joe is amazing on these tunes and sounds absolutely nothing like Ed.

  • Joe Henkins

Sucks. I’ll wait for some new Van Halen

  • http://www.youtube.com/Akinnss Sean

Where is ED? no one can touch Eddie!! This music seems like it was composed very quickly. Just my opinion. Thanks.

  • Kevin Malone

    Learning to Fall:

Best new tune I’ve heard from anybody in a while!

  • Kriss Oz

From what I’ve heard so far, I’d say Joe stands out on most occasions better than the rest!! He’s a great player but when you get into the world of where Edward Van Halen, Jimmy Page & Jimi Hendrix ruled supreme, I would say ‘back to the drawing board Chickenfoot’. I can’t hear the signature riff, the sound(s), the hook(s), the fill, the bridge, the lyric(s), a noise, etc. And it doesn’t only have to come from the guitarist (if you know what I mean?). It can come from anybody in the band or the band as a whole. Chad’s personality might be great but he doesn’t thump it or stomps it (like Bonzo, AVH, etc) or he doesn’t have the finesse the fills that speak (e.g. Paice, Ginger, Mitchell etc) Sammy just sounds jaded, nothing new just predictable. Was a good singer, but even his screams have no purpose. I might be a bit harsh but there’s nothing there that screams “NOW HEAR THIS!!!”

This might come as a shock to most reading this; I’m not impressed or blown over by Michael Anthony! Where is the backing vocals we were told about that Van Halen should be nervous about? Sammy hyped us up so much about Mikey that I thought, damn Mike’s been let loose from the so-called evil forces of those Van Halen brothers that he’s going to blow the house down!!! But I have sympathy for Mike on here; he’s always been a team player. Now that the dust is settle, it’s just a shame that he’s taken Sammy’s side when he’s real family is Van Halen.

I’m sure Van Halen will release their long and overdue new album (sooner rather than later I hope!), but let’s not for one talk down and disrespect Van Halen. They have given us over 3 decades of incredible music and concert performances the likes we will never see again; they’ve done it hard, taken the bad knocks, flourished the good ones but always delivered a stellar production. And they are survivors!! The Van Halen 2007/08 Tour was incredible; hats off to Wolfie!! Not even a seasoned musician would have coped with what Van Halen demands. But let’s be honest, for Wolfie it was a cover gig! Now it’s his turn to bring something new/original to the table, his turn to shine! Mikey left a lasting and untouchable legacy, I think Wolfie will bring something new, exciting and let’s face it he’s the heir to the throne!!

And for those that knock Dave, don’t be so narrow minded or naive. Dave (post VH) has experimented more than Van Halen & Sammy put together. Yeah sure some albums failed but the others were spectacular!! Dave never stands still, he has a gift of knowing what the audience needs or demands, it’s just that he needed Van Halen to amplify it to the masses!! I’m just stoked that we are going to hear Edward & Dave make some “Me Wise Magic” Tell me the hairs on the back of your neck didn’t raise or the goose bumps didn’t pop when “Me Wise Magic” was first released!! Man I got my girl and we went cruising down the beach with “Me Wise Magic” blasting out of my car speakers, people could hear me coming from 3 blocks away!!! And you think I turned it down? HELL NO!! Van Halen is meant to be played LOUD!!!!!

  • Bocephus

    On purpose..

  • iwannaberr

Sammy is my hero! However, not only are his lyrics stale on this stuff, but he’s recycling song titles too. Learning to Fall? Sounds alot like Learning to See. And Get it up? Wasn’t that on 5150?

Maybe one of the other songs is going to be called Best of all Worlds or Finish what you started yesterday?

  • jmd

    From what I’ve heard, I give it a B-

  • Gonzalo

I have Both songs in MP· with CD Quality … ;) Great Great Tunes!

  • Gonzalo

The Foot keeps getting better and better!!!

  • TheTruthHurts

Kriss Oz wrote: “This might come as a shock to most reading this; I’m not impressed or blown over by Michael Anthony! Now that the dust is settle, it’s just a shame that he’s taken Sammy’s side when he’s real family is Van Halen.”

    Whiskey.
    Tango.
    Foxtrot.

I suppose you take your boss’s side after he fires you, right? Mike’s family is Van Halen? Yeah, a family that Photoshopped him out of “family portraits” and then raped him. Great. Some family.

  • SCAR

It’s funny how all the haters write long boring comments that just end up saying BLAH BLAH BLAH!!! Party on Chickenfoot!!!

  • Michael

This stuff is amazing!! Sammy rules!!

  • Karl

Hey TruthHurts, why does it have to be about taking sides? Grow up.

  • rick

ughhhhh “Learning to Fall”? Sammy is the worst lyric writer. God, I want to like this, but it just seems so obnoxious. In any case,it’s only going to appeal to a subsection of Van Halen fans and no one else. And there is no way in hell this is going to reignite Rock music.

  • T.O. Mike

    LYRICS…..WHO CARES!!!

I got beef about people that slam Sammy’s writing. When Sammy wrote intellectual lyrics like Mine All Mine, Right Now, Dont Tell Me…..he got slammed for being too serious or not real VH. When he writes fun tunes that arent meant to be anything but that, he gets slammed for being corny(for example Why Cant This Be Love, Amsterdam).

I am a DLR era VH fan (approaching 40), but grew to love Sammy in VH and afterwords. Any era VH (because of EVH) will always be first in my books. But to slam Sammy, just to slam him, is getting ridiculous. I know everyone has their opinions, but we need to be a little level-headed.

I did not become a VH fan because of their lyrics, and I think most VH fans would agree. Its because of EVH!!! I quote PANAMA “got an on-ramp goin through my bedroom.” Corny lyric yes….but still an AWESOME song! VH lyrics has always been about fast cars, chicks, and partying….and I say what’s wrong with that.

When I listen to VH, DLR, Sammy Hagar or Chickenfoot, its about the fun rockin music…if I want to dicifer lyrics I’ll listen to Dylan, Springsteen etc. Stop slammin just to slam. Its gettin old and tired…like me LOL

    All imo of course.

  • Jeremy

I’ve been saying the same stuff about all the bashers on here about Sammy.

Music is supposed to be about having fun and to party!

Van Halen gave us that from 1978-1996.

    That’s it plain and simple.

Sammy has been giving us music from 1973-2009 and beyond.

I don’t care if Get It Up has the same title as Get Up.

I don’t care if Learning To Fall is close to Learning To See.

The music is different, the lyrics are different.

If you don’t like it, aren’t remotely interesred in it, don’t listen to it!

As for the comment about Michael Anthony?

Really? Are you kidding me here? Since everybody here is such a music critic and a critically acclaimed song writer, go into the studio next time with the Foot and write us a great album and show Joe, Chad, Mike, and Sammy how to do it.

Do you think they give 2 monkey shits what you buzz killers really think? They know who will buy this and who won’t. Every interview I’ve read or listened to, Sammy and Mike have been nothing but short of talking about Van Halen and giving props to them.

Your Van Halen thought it would be cool to erase Mike from the album covers and look where it got them when they tried?
It shows more people like Mike and thought it was a disgrace that your Eddie even tried it.

Go to the guitar hero article and post there!

  • Line6Guy

“I got beef about people that slam Sammy’s writing. When Sammy wrote intellectual lyrics like Mine All Mine, Right Now, Dont Tell Me”

T.O. Mike, those are three great lyrical songs that Hagar wrote but there’s just one problem…one was in 1988, 1991 and 1995! In other words, Hagar hasn’t put pen to paper and written anything decent, lyrically, since 1995! Nothing else he’s written stands out in my mind? Mas Tequila? Up For Breakfast? Soap On A Rope? Pffttt!!

  • Chris

Van Halen is past for sammy and michael and chickenfoot is future for them

  • http://vhlinks EL c

Sammy lyrics are crap?, everything Dave wrote was heartfelt, deep and clever? WTF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Let me get this straight, you are listening to VH, solo Dave, Solo Ed, VHIII, Van Hagar etc, and you think Sammy is the only one who writes cheap lyrics?

Well, how many say I you dirty water dog, stop standing with your back against that record machine, cause this skyscraper is a shy boy with a girl gone bad.

Why is it that everything Dave writes (and yes I like Dave, because YOU CAN like two frontmen at the same time) is poetic brilliance? What because it is so left field it is all cloaked it is brilliant?, or was it that he was that loaded and wired that hey, that will do? Did you see his BBQ vid? But I dont care, because the SONG is awesome and thats who Dave is and Im not listening to VH for an education.

You want brilliant, narrative, clever, social, political, educative lyrics?

Well I dont know one VH fan who ever primarily listened to any incarnation for the lyrics. Be honest with yourself, it was purely for the brilliant musicianship and songs, not the social commentary in the lyrics.

The Sam haters only rag sam for his lyrics, cause thats all they got. If he was that bad, if he was that hopeless, they wouldnt bother, but maybe because he aint, and just maybe because deep, deep down with their headphones on, they are actually loving CF, and too have given up on the dysfunctional brothers ever doing something as good.

You want lyrics? Try Bono, Bruce or Bob.
You want the warm noise? Try CF brother.

  • pete

if you want deep lyrics go listen to dave roths bump and grind or hot dog and a shake, now thats deep.

  • Line6Guy

Wow the lyrics comment really riles up the Hagar camp I see! Roth’s lyrics were always tongue & cheek with classic Van Halen and fit the band. The one ingredient that Hagar & Cherone lacked is charisma…Roth always had it, always will! Roth was the party and Eddie was the soundtrack!! Plain and simple Van Halen were THE SHIT back in the day with Roth! Sorry but not even the best of the Van Hagar years holds a candle to classic VH, especially the Fair Warning era!

Take a shot of Cabo Wabo and relax people!! It’s all good and it’s Van Halen!!

  • 5 Cents

I don’t see how DLR fans are critical of Sammy’s writing. DLR not only never wrote good lyrics the guy can no longer sing. Believe me that is a huge reason for no new VH material. If new material is ever released it will be with a forth singer. DLR was that man at one point but age and mostly cigarettes killed those pipes a long time ago. I’m going to embrace this new music. I am positive it will be much better then the next DLR solo project. Not trying to hate, just stating the facts.

  • FAMAC

I was bored within the first 30 seconds of both of these songs. The power ballad sounds like a tune Aerosmith scrapped.

Get It Up sounds really stale and dated with that pathetic verse. Who is singing that – it doesn’t sound like Sammy’s braying and the lyrics are for sure not his.

  • http://www.targetband.net scott

there is just know way the halen boys can even come close to this stuff with dave at the mike. it sure seems nice to hear mikey do his thing. i would be willing to bet that eddie controlled what we heard from mikey for years. this stuff is fantasic. long live the foot……

  • Dan

I think we can all agree that Sam and Dave both have written less than stellar lyrics throughout their careers. I mean “Jump” wasn’t the deepest tune ever written. If you go back and listen to Sam’s album Marching to Mars, you have to agree there are some great songs with great lyrics on that album. Let’s not forget 10-13, that was a great album too. But hey I love all his stuff whether they’re deep or not.
I listen to the tunes because they’re fun and make you feel good. At the end of the day I’m sure Sam and the boys aren’t losing any sleep over a few negative posters on VHND. They have their loyal fans and are enjoying life. Maybe if the bashers would just lighten up and enjoy the fun of music, they wouldn’t be so uptight all the time. And when VH does put out some new tunes, I’ll be excited about that too.

  • greg

Ok, let me preface this by saying that I like both eras of VH (sorry Gary, one album doesn’t qualify)but I do prefer Dave, not so much for the singer, but the music just rocked more. VH with Sammy put out some great songs, some of my favorites in fact, but most of it wasn’t as good as Dave era stuff. Just to show that I’m balanced, VH with Dave had some less than stellar music too (half of Diver Down anyone?) That being said, I’m not to impressed with Chickenfoot. For the most part the music is pretty good, although nothing that will have people still talkin about it how great it is in 20 years. My biggest problems with the songs I’ve heard so far is the singing and lyrics. Now Dave is no poet, but he didn’t have “Ariba, Ariba” in his lyrics like in “Get it Up” nor “Hoochie Coochie Man” like in “Oh Yeah”. I’m sorry, but I hear things like that in the lyrics, and it just turns me off. I do like “Learning to Fall” though, and hopefully more of the CD is like that. I won’t be rushing out to buy Chickenfoot like I will be with the new VH (I’m hoping there will be a new VH).

  • http://www.myspace.com/aarxn aarxn

im not going to bash anyone here, or take sides, but i will say this much…. this ‘chickenfoot’ thing would have been alot better without Sammy. he just brings too much baggage to the table. he never shuts up about VH on interviews, and the songs themselves sound like they are trying so hard to be VanHagar, its pathetic.

remember Velvet Revolver? THATS a supergroup that did it right. no one bashed Axl Rose, or STP, they just rocked it out and sounded NOTHING like STP or GnR.

did/does Dave write good lyrics? not really, but its okay because its VanHalen. when Sammy was in VH, it was okay too (not counting the 2004 tunes) its all in good fun, but after VH Sammy hasnt wrote a single decent song, and i really think he hinders Chickenfoot.

Satch,Mike, and Chad are good musicians, but this supergroup is just a waste with the likes of Sammy bringing them down

  • Joe

The songs sound good. For those who don’t like Sammy, it is easy. Don’t listen to it. I would take Sammy’s career after VH over DLR’s anyday. Other than Just Like Paradise and Yankee Rose, DLR tanked fast. Once Steve Vai and company left, DLR could not hide his limited musical creativity. Sammy, on the other hand, has produced listenable music before and after VH.

  • T.O. Mike

I seem to have started or continued the lyric battle… Im not bashing DLR’s or Sammy’s lyrical ability. If ya analyse them some have been great, and some have been silly, but like someone else put it….Its all VH and they Rock!!!

I just dont like the Sammy haters bashing just to bash! And Sammy has dealt with that ever since he joined VH. If his lyrics were deep (bashed!), if they were silly (bashed!) Thats just unfair….if ya like the guy or not.

  • theREALchris

Hate to break it to ya, aarxn, but Axl Rose had nothing to do with Velvet Revolver.

  • Karl

^ You mean apart from the fact that half his former band mates were in VR? Kind of like half of VH being in CF…

  • ringostore

    yawn

    made me sleepy

Eddie and Dave, blow these guys away!

  • http://www.myspace.com/aarxn aarxn

i know Axl wasnt in VR, i was talking about how Scott didnt talk smack about Axl, and Axl didnt talk smack about Scott.

Sammy on the other hand, HAS to bring up VH everytime he opens his mouth. hes probably even that way at home

Sammys Wife: what kind of cereal do you want for breakfast Samual?

Sammy: i’ll take some apple jacks! you know when i was in VanHalen, i couldnt eat any apple jacks

    Sammys wife: *rolls eyes
