Friday, 20 March 2009

Chickenfoot has released two full songs from the new album for you to listen to now! “Soap On A Rope” and “Down The Drain.”
You can listen to them on the band’s official webiste, but they sound better on their Facebook page.
Here’s a photo from Chickenfoot’s first concert ever, a March 18th private concert for Best Buy:

Did anybody like that?
March 20th, 2009 at 4:04 pm
I mean; REALLY like that?
March 20th, 2009 at 4:14 pm
Satch is a monster on these tunes, and Mike’s bass is finally present in the mix!!
WOW!
March 20th, 2009 at 4:16 pm
I’m not sure they’re the 2nd coming of Led Zepplin like Sammy has suggested, buy I like it so far. Let see what the near future brings.
March 20th, 2009 at 4:20 pm
I like Doen the Drain, Soap on a Rope- ok, not great, not bad. Overall its good to hearnew music. It’s only a matter of seconds before the DLR’s come back from 1982 and start to slam it- oh well, can’t make evryone happy.
March 20th, 2009 at 4:20 pm
Did anybody like that? Well I like it a whole lot better than the deafening silence produced by Van Halen. I fully expect this thread to be full of team playing babies shouting “My dad’s bigger than your dad!”
March 20th, 2009 at 4:20 pm
Sammy cool man love Sammy but it is V H N D YES
March 20th, 2009 at 4:22 pm
YES
cannot wait for more
March 20th, 2009 at 4:28 pm
i think it sounds great.BTW they call this “new” music ed.
March 20th, 2009 at 4:38 pm
Nice rhythm…very bluesy
It’s not Van Halen…but it’s not supposed to be.
Glad to hear Joe Satriani playing with some vocals.
I started to listen to him when VH was silent…
I’m happy to see VanHagar and the Satriani mix
Rock ‘on.
March 20th, 2009 at 4:38 pm
I haven’t had a chance to listen to it yet, but it already comes back to slamming Ed. Geez, can you guys not have your decisions based on whether or not Ed releases music? What does Ed’s music or lack of music have to do with this?
March 20th, 2009 at 4:40 pm
Actually, the thread opened with an attack on Chickenfoot…
March 20th, 2009 at 4:43 pm
I was a little disappointed. I hope the rest of the CD is better. Maybe it’ll grow on me.
March 20th, 2009 at 4:45 pm
i like it…
March 20th, 2009 at 4:47 pm
its like 2 jam seesions. Sounds alot better on facebook then their web page
March 20th, 2009 at 4:48 pm
it’s fine.
March 20th, 2009 at 4:48 pm
Sounds good to me. They don’t have to be the next Zep or VH, just what they are. Can’t wait for more.
March 20th, 2009 at 4:58 pm
When do they plan on releasing the whole album?
I liked what I heard so far! Not exactly VH or Zepp, but still pretty damn good!
March 20th, 2009 at 5:01 pm
Hagar was in Van Halen? When was this…did they release any albums? I only have six VH albums…that liquor in the night-time brings strange memories
March 20th, 2009 at 5:04 pm
I like it…bottom heavy, groovy, in your face guitars…they actually sound like a band…can’t wait for more…i couldn’t care less for EVH future plans, if there is such a thing…
March 20th, 2009 at 5:04 pm
I think it kicks ass I can’t wait for more. Sammy could make a garage band sound good. Sammy & Mike togather just like old times they sound good.
March 20th, 2009 at 5:09 pm
soap on a ropeis not new,it is rip off rock candy
March 20th, 2009 at 5:14 pm
Yawn. There’s no songs so far, just jam/riffs, with Sammy pretty much ad libbing over the top without any specific melody for the most part.
Having said it sounds good for a jam session. But real lazy when taken as tracks off a studio album.
March 20th, 2009 at 5:24 pm
Hey Karl, what ‘attack’?
I’m just asking if anybody likes it. Just a question. Jeez, you sammy-lovers should relax.
March 20th, 2009 at 5:53 pm
Yeah! Finally! Today is a great day!
I loved the songs and each time you listen to then you’ll love them more and more!
Let’s be happy to have a great new band, and forget the stupid comparisons between Chickenfoot and Van Halen. We have now 2 amazing bands people!!!
March 20th, 2009 at 6:00 pm
Wonder if Sammy was signing autographs while he was singing, or was he taking it seriously.
March 20th, 2009 at 6:04 pm
Actually, Eric, I prefer Dave…
March 20th, 2009 at 6:11 pm
I agree with Skutch, why do all these Sammy lovers labour over what Eddie’s doing when Sammy and Co release their albums? Get over it!! Now that Sammy and Mike are on the outer, they have been found out and exposed on just who was and always is the master…”King Edward Van Halen!!!!!” No wonder Eddie started picking on Sammy’s lyric and vocal work!! Eddie has always been about the future he’s a pioneer a fuckin’ music genius!! Sammy is ‘middle of the road’ or Cabo Wabo!!!
So stop all your Eddie, Dave & Van Halen bashing and just let it be. Chickenfoot the next Led Zeppelin? I’d say PIGS ARSE to that!! There will never, ever be another Led Zeppelin or Van Halen.
But if it’s a Van Halen cover band you want to see then by all means Chickenfoot your hearts out!! Nobody’s stopping you but just don’t try ramming it down everybody else’s throats!!
Van Halen fuckin’ rules!!!!
March 20th, 2009 at 6:20 pm
This is a great day indeed. These guys are off to a fantastic start, and Satch is proving once again why he is in a league of his own. The tunes are definitely worth listening to, with Down The Drain being my personal favorite of the two. However, my prediction is that this was just a quick teaser release, and the best is yet to come from the Foot.
And for those who are going to want to get all pissy about people praising Joe Satriani on this site, just think of it this way; comparing Ed and Joe is like comparing a Ferrari and a Lamborghini. Driving either can be the ride of a lifetime, but the only issue with these two is that one stays locked up in the garage 24/7/365, while the other is out cruising up and down the autobahn with his pals, having fun and cranking out the tunes.
March 20th, 2009 at 6:23 pm
Hey Karl, me too! Cheers mate!
March 20th, 2009 at 6:34 pm
Why would anyone want Spammy to sing for them. He absolutely ruined these two samples…typical. I can hardly stomach his voice. The band on the other hand is killer.
March 20th, 2009 at 6:47 pm
very nice- especially tack 2
March 20th, 2009 at 6:50 pm
hope someone bootlegged that secret gig
March 20th, 2009 at 6:56 pm
Music: kickass. Sam’s lyrics, admittedly not the greatest, but damn. Satch/Chad/Mikey’s playing more than makes up for it. Bottom line: sounds like the guys are having fun, you can join ‘em for the ride or not.
These tunes would be a blast live, can’t wait to hear more.
March 20th, 2009 at 6:56 pm
To answer Erick’s fair, but loaded, initial question: I liked them, didn’t love them. They were good, not great.
I think the first song ran about a minute too long although I think it’s in the middle where they need to tighten it up (really liked the last 1:00 of it). Sonically solid, lyrically a bit weak.
I think the second song was more of a jam session with again weaker than expected lyrics. I like it when Sam tells more of a story with his lyrics instead of the simple, easy to rhyme lines. Again, this song needs to be tightened down a bit.
I’ll likely buy the album based on what I’ve heard with the hope/expectation that the rest will be tighter and better written. Seeing these guys live would be grrrrreat!
MA=VH
March 20th, 2009 at 6:59 pm
Sounds pretty good. Definitely some Montrose influence in there, but not “Rock Candy”. Towards the end there is a part that sounds almost exactly like a tune off the first Montrose album…. Sammy sounds good, as usual. His lyrics are always awful, but Sammy is what he is. This sure sounds better than that solo garbage he just recently released. Nice to hear Mikey on a recording again, and his backup vocals sound great. Ed is the best rock guitarist on the planet, but Satch is the best rock guitarist on Mars.
March 20th, 2009 at 7:06 pm
Just as expected. Rock n roll material that doesnt sound like remashed old news. Satch is tearin it up, and its nice to hear the Sammy/Mikey harmonies on Down the Drain. Its new and fresh, and it will be great to see chickenfoot performing these tracks on stage this summer and fall. Sammy doesnt promise his fans new albums and tours and then not produce. When you see Sammy live, you’ll hear a mixture of styles new and old, with some surprises mixed in. You wont hear a set comprised of music from 1978 - 1984 (25 years ago, yes 25 years). Get on board and enjoy the chickenfoot ride.
March 20th, 2009 at 7:06 pm
Pretty good stuff!
March 20th, 2009 at 7:17 pm
Any info on the set list?
March 20th, 2009 at 7:26 pm
The songs sound good(not great), but I know this band will sound awesome live. I can’t wait to see a show from these guys. Great to hear Mike and Sammy doing the harmonies again.
March 20th, 2009 at 8:12 pm
well its not bad. working w joe satariani should produce some good sounds. but its not awesome or ‘new’ sound. Hopefully they can get stuff that is more ear popping like when you hear
the opening lick of ain’t talkin bout love or unchained. But its good that these 4 musicians can perform.
March 20th, 2009 at 8:29 pm
Band sounds cool. Sounds like Sammy’s got his own little eat ‘em and smile group! Mikey is no Sheehan but that would be too over the top. They do sound really nice. Nice tight fit.
Leave EVH and DLR together I’ll be happy…Unless no new albums.
March 20th, 2009 at 8:30 pm
I agree with the general consensus: the band is awesome, the lyrics and singing are pretty terrible.
I especially like Satch in this context, I feel like he was always wanted to be a ‘band’ guitarist instead of being his own act- he fits in wonderfully. Michael Anthony has space to do a little more, but chooses to keep it solid and provide those sweet backing vocals. Chad Smith is a monster, that’s all I can say about him.
Anyway, it’s a little generic but it rocks.
March 20th, 2009 at 8:37 pm
The lyrics are awful
Satch is good but Eddie is God.
March 20th, 2009 at 8:57 pm
Well nobody wants to hear this…
But..It was damn good.
Mikey and Chad were great. And Joe Satriani filled in the space, for the most part flawlessly.
If anything, Sam was the liability…and even he was decent.
Pleasantly surprised on this.
Mikey sounded Great!
March 20th, 2009 at 9:02 pm
just a reminder to all you sammy basher’s, evh has talked more shit about his bandmates then anybody. there is no doubt that evh is the best but the way i see it you guys care more about him than he cares about the you/us, THE FANS. just because you don’t like sammy doesn’t mean he sucks. the guy is out giving his fans what they want which is what the stone’s and def lepard and ac/dc are doing. one more thought on this, why is alex never heard from?
March 20th, 2009 at 9:05 pm
Hey YES! Your a tool, go back to 1982/1984 and get off too your DLR VH. This is’nt VH, Nobody is saying it is. It’s a new band/ new music, if you dont like it don’t listen. The DLR fans piss and moan that the Sammy fans bash Ed for “sleeping on the job”, its no different when the DLR fans bash Sammy. Let us enjoy OUR new band and new music, you guys will get your turn IF!!!!!!! Vh can get it together and crank out some new music. BTW, I actually like the DLR stuff, I grew up on it, I also like to expand my horizons and I listen to all kinds of music. Imagine if musicians did not branch out and try new things, God that would really suck! How about when Ed and Al branched out and brought Gary into the band, that was completely out in “left field” but you know what? I respect them for doing that album. Peace!
March 20th, 2009 at 9:24 pm
When I heard the intro, before hearing these 2 songs. I said Ok. Sounds ok, I wanted hear more. But after hearing it, it’s awful. This doesn’t sound like a supergroup. I liked listening to Satriani, Hagar is losing it, Him and Joe don’t blend, he talks too much still. Hope the rest of the album is better.
March 20th, 2009 at 9:35 pm
I like it!looking forward to the cd&tour.
March 20th, 2009 at 9:45 pm
So Far So Good, Keep it up Chickenfoot
March 20th, 2009 at 9:55 pm
First off, I cannot remember who wrote it earlier and could care less but what’s wrong with Sammy catching a shirt or pic while he is on-stage and signing it for them? Hell, I think it is very cool way for him to give to the fans. It was his idea to bring the fans instage on his last tour with VH and it was cool to see him jump into the pits and party with them.
I like Sammy and Dave both. I don’t trash one or the other. I think it is great that Sammy and Mike have a band together again. The new music sounded great. Can’t wait for the new CD to come out.
As for DLR and EVH, I am sure their new stuff will sound great when it comes out. I can’t wait to buy that CD either.
As for who is better, I prefer Sammy. I will listen to either one but I grew up on Sammy. I like the way he likes to include his fans in his shows, and how he loves to interact with them when they come to one of his bars when he is there. Hell, I think if you are a VH, then you should like Sammy and Dave both, cause they along with EVH are the reasons that VH is on the map. DLR did his thing to help get them there, and Sammy helped keep them there.
In short, enjoy the music. For the people that already had their minds made up cause of their hatred towards Sammy cause he replaced DLR in VH to begin with, they will naturally hate this Cd. For the rest of us, I am sure we will enjoy it and hopefully will see Chickenfoot when they come near our towns this summer.
March 20th, 2009 at 10:22 pm
neither of these songs was that good. too slow and boring.
March 20th, 2009 at 10:38 pm
Since Colonel Sanders died I stopped eating KFC Chicken. But now there is ChickenFoot and I have a new lease on life!
March 20th, 2009 at 10:51 pm
Sammy sounds the exact same, yawn! I was hoping he would get the “Montrose” sound back instead of always screamy high notes. I agree, it sounds like a groove jam with Sammy ad-libbing over it. Not anything you would walk away humming to.
March 20th, 2009 at 11:04 pm
Take their advice… Listen on Facebook with headphones. Satch does a nice job of not stepping on the vocals, while leaving some subtle, but tasteful licks throughout. Sammy sounds great! Mike and Chad hold down the rhythm. I hope this group sticks AND the New Halen puts out some material. Why can’t we all get along?
March 20th, 2009 at 11:33 pm
Sounds fantastic. I’m very happy. I like Down the Drain better.
March 20th, 2009 at 11:38 pm
Facebook page does have a much better sound to it. Man it’s good to hear guitar rock again.
March 21st, 2009 at 12:48 am
These are good songs. I like Down The Drain better. Looking forward to the album. Wonder how long this group will stay together.
March 21st, 2009 at 1:42 am
unfortunately the sammy bashers can’t get it through their heads why dave was booted originally and blame sammy for it. dave’s ego was the problem time and time again and the rest of them had enough. sammy had nothing to do with it. with time comes age, and things are forgotten over time. never question sammy’s work ethic and think you’ll come out ahead. without sammy, vh wouldn’t have gone to the heights it did. dave was a great showman, but he was very self destructive back then and eddie wasn’t much better. least you forget about all the drinking and other things going on at the time. I grew up on both dave and sammy and like them both because i have an OPEN mind and think each brought different styles to VH. my issue is with ed and his ego now. the man believes his own lies. it’s pretty sad actually. until he puts his guitar where his mouth is ed’s lost all credibility in this. at least sammy’s done things in the past 5 years other than just tour as a nestalgia act and sack a longtime bandmate who stuck buy him for 30 years. with friends like ed who needs enemies. it’s sad to see a great band like vh deteriorate to this because of ego trips. sammy and mike have actually taken the high road and said no ill will towards ed, but ed just couldn’t keep his mouth shut and berate the work ethics of the two. they’re proving you wrong every day ed, when are you going to appologize to them.
chickenfoot sounds bluesy, gutsy, in your face and tight for a supergroup of musicians who really only started playing together over the past year or so. give credit where credit is due. i’d like to hear vh’s musical response to this sometime this year. don’t hold your breath because it’s probably not going to happen. much like nothing has happened album wise with them in the past few years. where’s all this music you wrote ed? you’ve had a few years to sit on your butt and write, but nothing’s come out of you.
March 21st, 2009 at 1:59 am
Listen, we all have an opinion on what we like and don’t like. What pisses me off is that people on ALL things Van Halen like to bash one another. Just last week I argued with a guy about how David Lee Roth is better than Sammy.
The facts are this: Dave needs Van Halen, Sammy doesn’t need anybody. We all can say Sammy needed Van Halen, but who approached who? It wasn’t Sammy who went to them. With that said here we are debating on these new Chickenfoot songs, which sound great by the way. I heard these before the world heard them today. The other tracks BLOW these away.
Sammy didn’t write all the lyrics by the way just like he didn’t write all the music. It was a BAND EFFORT THE WAY IT SHOULD BE! I like the way they just start out with a groove and add to it. There are mixes of all 4’s musical influences as well as what they have accomplished with their careers.
What we have here is this: Sammy and Mike have moved on from Van Halen, even though they didn’t want to somewhere down the line. Eddie ruined this band with his substance abuse problems with other things. Alex has done nothing but just go along with it. Dave has done squat since he left but release one good album and the rest blew. As I said before, Dave needs Van Halen and Sammy never did period.
Sammy was making albums before Van Halen made an album. Montrose was produced by Ted Templeman, which by the way produced Van Halen and Dave albums for years. He wanted Dave out and Sammy in back in 1978. Look it up.
All I’m saying is this, Chickenfoot sounds dirty and fresh. We as rock fans need this. Van Halen will not do anything again. If I was Alex, I would take Eddie by the head and slam it through a wall. It’s his fault that he let Sammy AND especially Mike go due to what was it again? Oh yeah playing music for the FANS! All Eddie does is sit in 5150 and play what?
I can’t wait for the rest of this album to come out so people on these sites will go “wow music made by musicians who want to play music”! Not say or promise and then it’s 11 years later like it was when Van Halen put out Van Halen 3 back in 1998. I want Van Halen to come back, but I also would like to win the lottery and I play all the time. I haven’t won yet so good luck thinking Van Halen is coming back too.
March 21st, 2009 at 2:00 am
Satch - as usual - delivers some enjoyable guitar-playing. I wish they’d turn up Mike’s vocals…
March 21st, 2009 at 2:11 am
Great groves great guitars great voals great low end what more do you want haven`t heard stuff like this in ages since oh wait the new Extreme album lol but before that its been ages . Come on guys give it a chance it aint that bad . Does anyone think satches harmonic dive sound like Gilberts of Mr Big`s lean into it album lol
March 21st, 2009 at 2:20 am
Also, if you listen to the songs closely, Sammy doesn’t have to sing loud or high to keep up with the guitar player. It’s got a raw sound to it that we haven’t heard from Sammy in some years now. Also if there are any doubters as to who I am, just got to myspace and go to Sammy Hagar and Michael Anthony’s pages and see where I am on the top friends. I want the comparisons to stop because there are no comparisons between Sammy and Dave.
Sammy puts out albums, Dave and Eddie put out?????????????
Now we have 4 great musicians putting out music. Vhrocks nailed it on his thread and if Wolfgang is paying attention to the internet like he claims,PLAY THESE SONGS FOR YOUR DAD AND UNCLE! TELL THEM WE DON’T WANT TO HEAR FRICKIN JUMP ANYMORE OR PANAMA! WE ALSO DON’T WANT ANYMORE GOD DARN GUITARS OR AMPS OR PORNO SONGS FOR A PORNO MOVIE!
WE WANT VAN HALEN TO PUT OUT NEW MATERIAL!!!!!!!!!!!!
I DON’T WANT ANYMORE GREATEST HITS CD’S. I WANT A NEW ALBUM FROM VAN HALEN. SCREW WOLFGANG’S GRADUATION AND EDDIE’S WEDDING. YOU HAVE HAD 11 PLUS YEARS TO GET RE-MARRIED AND TO MAKE AN ALBUM WITH MIKE INSTEAD OF YOUR SON. 2004 YOU HAD SAMMY AND MADE 3 SONGS. ALEX WANTED IT TO LAST, BUT NO, EDDIE HAD TO RUIN IT AGAIN BY DRINKING ALL THE OCEANS OUT OF WATER.
LISTEN TO MUSICIANS EDDIE AND PUT OUT THE MUSIC MAN! JUST PUT OUT THE MUSIC!
March 21st, 2009 at 4:14 am
Oh yeah! Really like this sound, raw, natural bluesed up rock! Hope to see them on Sweden Rock Festival…please?
So Edward, how will you eat thís?
March 21st, 2009 at 5:46 am
awesome!
March 21st, 2009 at 6:26 am
I have been playing guitar for nearly 20 years and have been listening to rock and metal for longer, I have idolized the likes of EVH and plenty other guitarist.I have been visiting this web site for over 10 years. the only time I have seen VH was during the VH3 tour, my friend won tickets from a local radio station I was disappointed to see VAN-extreme but glad to see Mike, Ed and Al. I never was a Extreme fan and thought they could of had a better choice. It reminded me of Black Sabbath with Ian Gillan though I like Gillan with Sabbath better than VH3, hell I liked Motley Crue with Corabi but still favored the original Crue. If the ego trips would go away Chiken foot VH and a dose of both era’s would be a good festival style tour and they could even include Exteme and a dose of VH 3 just to be fair. But this Eddie is god? there are so many Guitarist that are awesome out there it isn,t fair to crown just one. Did anyone forget Randy Rhoads?
March 21st, 2009 at 6:41 am
Its good to hear new music from SOMEBODY.
March 21st, 2009 at 6:47 am
To quote John Cougar “POP SINGER POP SONG!” Thank the Lord we still have bands like Van Halen and Godsmack. So much hype for so little! Chad your great with RHCP, Joe your just great! and the other two well you can tell they don’t need the money!
March 21st, 2009 at 7:37 am
The moment I heard that this supergroup had formed, my expectations went through the roof. It was the same kind of anticipation I had when I first learned that Chris Cornell and 3/4 of Rage Against the Machine joined up to form Audioslave. Sammy is typically at his best when he collaborates with great musicians (i.e. Montrose, HSAS, Van Halen). Plus, his last two albums are pretty awful and do not hold up against most of his own material, let alone VH, so I was/am looking forward to some great music from the Chickenfoot gang.
The Chickenfoot tunes are definitely better than Sammy’s recent stuff. The sound production is awesome! It feels like I am sitting in the room with those guys.
With that said, the quality of two songs are not on the same level with any music from Van Halen, Red Hot Chili Peppers, or Satriani. Don’t get me wrong, I am not looking for VH revisited or anything like that. With Chickenfoot, I am hoping for music that is worthy of being on the same playlist with VH, RHCP, Satch, and others.
Lyrically, there is nothing happening on those tunes. I’m not expecting anything earth-shattering, just memorable. Musically, the songs barely get past the jam. I expected something more than that from four legends.
Nevertheless, it’s only two tracks. Hopefully the rest of the album will be better than what they have released thus far.
March 21st, 2009 at 7:59 am
Idk. Seems like Sammy surrounded himself with killer musicians, but the minute he launches in, its same old Sammy. The music is tight, but the lyrics and melodies are typical Hagar. Live shows have potential with the set list they could generate.
March 21st, 2009 at 8:00 am
Andrew:
When VH comes out with a new album of new material then I’ll agree with you that “At least we have Van Halen”… However; I like this. I also like the way Sam and Mike think about their fans first.
Like Ozzy said last year, “I owe my fans for everything I have”… Sam and Mike understand this. Ed, well he owes his 40oz and bottle of wine…
So when the “vault” is opened up andVH releases a new album not some rehashed Greatest Hits Package with “New Reasons Why this song ends the way it ends” then I’ll back you up…
Right now though, there’s nothing but silence on that end of the spectrum…
March 21st, 2009 at 8:04 am
Randy Rhoads’ tone was a great player but his tone was turds compared to EVH. Not in the same “Arena”.
March 21st, 2009 at 8:09 am
Here’s my honest take on it. I listened to the Facebook page with headphones like you guys said. I liked Soap on a Rope better than Down the Drain. Soap on a Rope had a good groove and kept my interest for the first few minutes. Both songs I felt were in no way strong enough to be as long as they were. Down the Drain just didn’t have alot of substance at all and I couldn’t believe it was 6 minutes. On the good side, Satch’s tone was great. My predictions were pretty much dead on. Dumb lyrics, really soloey, fair songs at best. I’m not trying to be a Sammyhater here, but the music is so uninspired to me. I didn’t hate it, but it didn’t do much for me, sort of like Watchmen.
March 21st, 2009 at 8:14 am
Here we go again, any others want to bash EDVH, Sammy or DLR? Get it all out of your systems because, IT’S THE WEEKEND - party if you can - catch a buzz - enjoy the new Chickenfoot songs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
March 21st, 2009 at 8:15 am
Yeah but Randy only put out two albums and has been gone for over 25 years so it’s not really fair to bring him in this mix. Given time i think that he would of been right there with Ed as much knowledge seeking of the guitar he was doing at the time. He was already ahead of his time for his age then.
March 21st, 2009 at 8:50 am
Joe was right, kick ass Rock N Roll. Intruments, including Sam’s voice sound great. Its awesome hearing Joe in this setting. Only complaint is that it sounds like the same kinda lame lyrics. Any how, I will be there and expect a hellava Rock Show. Check out this reverse physchology.
Hey Eddie, I think you should show these guys who’s boss and release a double DVD of the last tour and the 1981 Oakland show on the same date as Chickenfoot. That’ll show em.
Man, that would be happiest trip to Best Buy ever!!!!!!!!!
March 21st, 2009 at 8:56 am
Somewhere Edward is sleeping………
March 21st, 2009 at 8:59 am
I like the new music. It is odd to hear my favorite parts of Van Halen mixed with Joe Satriani. However, I think the potential for greatness is obvious. I wonder how Sammy is still able to sing like that? He is amazing.
March 21st, 2009 at 9:12 am
Its good to hear some new kick-ass hard rock, that says lets party…Joe is a phenomenal guitarist, and its great that Sammy and Mike are puttin some new tunes out there. As guitarists we all know that Joe is a master, but is in no way close to being in the same league as EVH when it comes to writing songs,(not instrumenatl jams), songs that is…Songs that say ahh yeah, Beautiful Girls!!! Chickenfoot is gonna be the wake-up call that EVH,AVH,DLR,and Wolfie need…
March 21st, 2009 at 9:50 am
good music but Sammy can’t sing for shit anymore, I mean on one song he was damn near recycling the Up for Breakfast lyrics, Sammy hasn’t written any good lyrics since Balance
March 21st, 2009 at 10:09 am
I love VH, Sammy or Dave, I’m there.
CF:
I like the music on these 2 new CF songs.
I hate to admit it but the singing and lyrics just didn’t work for me.
Samplehead nailed it:
“Sammy pretty much ad libbing over the top without any specific melody for the most part.”
Are these final versions? I really hope not, Sammy can do better……….
March 21st, 2009 at 10:14 am
Sounds pretty cool! Nice hearing Mikey’s vocals and actually hearing his bass for once. Hope the album comes out soon.
March 21st, 2009 at 10:24 am
Hey EVH-baskers; Ed doesn’t care about you and the chicks.
I know he’s working on a setlist for the upcoming tour. Some great tunes from the first 6 masterpieces. He’s thinking about adding “Hear about it later”, “In a simple rhyme”, “The full bug” and “Drop dead legs” to the set. Now that would be something to look forward to!
March 21st, 2009 at 10:37 am
Yeah…sure….11 years and about 15 promises’ later…..
March 21st, 2009 at 11:04 am
Cheesy rock…INCREDIBLY UNDERWHELMED!
March 21st, 2009 at 11:36 am
These songs sound a little like a band called “BAD COMPANY” same groove. Eddie you have nothing to worry about. If this is all Sammy can put together, I can wait a few months or even years for your album. With all Sammy’s cheesy talking and laughing at the beginning it’s hard to take him seriously.
P.S. Love your new guitars, nice way to treat your fans who play. thanks man!
Just take your time, and do it right bro!
March 21st, 2009 at 11:52 am
I like the idea of this supergroup. However, these songs are way too similar to use for a first taste–listening to “Down the Drain” after “Soap on a Rope”—I thought they were the same song.
There’s potential here, but I hope there’s some song variety on the rest of the disc.
March 21st, 2009 at 11:56 am
Sounds pretty kick ass to me. I’ll 4sure buy the cd and see the tour. Betcha little Eddie’s running up to the 5150 studio as we speak. Finish that smoke dude, give Dave a call, and kick it into gear, youn guys are behind the 8 ball for sure.
March 21st, 2009 at 12:38 pm
I like the songs! That tour better come to the Milwaukee/Chicago area!!!
March 21st, 2009 at 1:26 pm
Love it!
Sammy and the boys can write a new album in a month….
Eddie’s gona have to start drinking for another 2 years before he can hack something new.
March 21st, 2009 at 1:28 pm
i didnt mean to slam ed i just hope this sparks something inside of him and releases some of that music he claims to have but if they release one more “best of” album im done.
March 21st, 2009 at 1:31 pm
Well as expected with Chad Smith and Joe Satriani the band is tight and sounds good but the songs are a bit, how you say, retreads right? I mean they are bluesy rock tunes, nothing wrong with them but nothing really blowin’ my little lady’s skirt up either.
I like the sound, but damn Sammy’s lyrics are just horrible now. His voice is still great for rock but can’t he formulate one decent lyrical idea not about cars, joints, boose, or sex? I guess I’ll buy it when it comes out and it’ll just make me want the new VH disc with Dave even more. Not bad though fellas for a VH clone band.
March 21st, 2009 at 1:56 pm
Both these songs are great! People, enough of the negative comments directed either towards Chicknfoot or VH. The world is big enough for both bands! The more good rock, the better.
Rock on, Chickenfoot!
March 21st, 2009 at 3:03 pm
Sammy is the best!!! Unfortunately, he should have taken a break from recording for about 3 years before doing this project. Satch is the star based on these 2 songs. I was hoping for something amazing. Maybe the rest will be better. After all they don’t want to “give” the album to everyone. Saving the best for the $$$$.
I wish Sammy would sing and write like he did prior to joining VH. TOO MUCH DAMN SCREAMING AND SQUEALING anymore!!!
March 21st, 2009 at 3:19 pm
The tunes are OKAY. Well recorded nice arrangements overall mid-tempo SAFE and boring.
I love Joe playing like Ed and Sammy trying to cop Dave’s Improv Vibe…A testament to VH’s greatness.
To me it sounds like They …
WANNA BE VAN HALEN!!!
SCAR ERICK??? What say you?
TO ALL Chickensh*t/Sammy Lovers…
We will leave Michael outta this)
Remember where you are THE MIGHTY VAN HALEN News Desk!!!
March 21st, 2009 at 3:21 pm
Soap on a rope is f***ing GREAT!!!
March 21st, 2009 at 3:27 pm
Hey Jake - nothing wrong with writing songs about cars, joints, booze or sex. That’s what Rock n roll is all about!!!!! You sound uptight, probably because you don’t drive and can’t get laid!!!! Bummer!!!!!
March 21st, 2009 at 3:57 pm
i only hear 4 tracks. vocals, drums, bass, guitar, like it’s 1978 or something. don’t they know there are like 122 other tracks they could use for helicopter samples and 121 layers of murky guitar?
March 21st, 2009 at 4:18 pm
WOW !! They really sound like a BAND….. Not individual artists !! Party album of summer 2009 !!
March 21st, 2009 at 4:31 pm
Sounds great except the lyrics…which are….utter pants…come on sammy you can do better. Seriously.
March 21st, 2009 at 4:36 pm
I really couldn’t give a toss what Hagars singing about. But I’m liking the overall sound and vibe from these guys. Nice studio mix. Couple of good tracks to turn up and chill to. Looking forward to hearing the rest.
March 21st, 2009 at 5:13 pm
The songs aren’t really that original but the vibe, especially “Down the Drain”, is very cool. I hope the rest of the disc is better. Usually the “B-side” type songs, like “House of Pain” or “In a Simple Rhyme” are the hidden gems.
March 21st, 2009 at 5:13 pm
PEEDAH, what are you talking about? This sounds nothing like VH. Sam never did anything that sounded like this while in VH. So he screams, if he didn’t DLR’s would be complaining that he’s not screaming. The mighty Vh news desk- ok its a news desk, I’ll give you that. Interesting though how on the VHND all you get regarding VH is what new shit ed is selling. Sometimes by the look of it i think this might be Ed’s version of the home shopping network. Say what you will, I personally cant wait for new VH music, I’m sure the music end of it will be really good, the singing end- well we all know how that will turn. More like dave doing spoken word, because HE CANT SING!!
March 21st, 2009 at 5:17 pm
Having been a VH fan for 27 years I think the Ed peaked on the second side of 1984. He kind of made a comeback with F.U.C.K but never reached his heights with Fair Warning and 1984. Maybe Satch can give him a lesson or two to get the creative juices flowing again.
IF I NEVER HEAR 316 EVER AGAIN, IT’LL BE TO FRICKIN’ SOON!
March 21st, 2009 at 5:22 pm
Oh man, I just figured it out. The Chickenfoot logo is a chicken’s foot AND a peace symbol. Way cool
March 21st, 2009 at 5:40 pm
I finally listened to this on the Facebook page like some suggested…way better sound!
Like everyone, I’d like to hear new Halen as well…but there is room for two bands.
There is such a void in good tunes these days, I’m glad Chickenfoot will bring some real Rock’n Roll back to the table.
March 21st, 2009 at 6:49 pm
I agree Fab maybe ed should call King Satch and schedule a few dozen lessons. CF music is awesome lyrics need some work but musically VH will never be this good again.
March 21st, 2009 at 7:22 pm
Question: What is this doing on the VAN HALEN NEWS DESK?
I listened to the tracks. I did not like it and I don’t get what it has to do with THE MIGHTY VAN HALEN.
The only interesting thing about Chickenfoot is the reversed K in the name. Just brilliant.
March 21st, 2009 at 8:23 pm
Erick, are you tryin to stir the pot???
March 21st, 2009 at 8:31 pm
no
March 21st, 2009 at 9:13 pm
This sounds absolutely freaking awesome, compared to the woboritas. Sounds like shit compared to VH. Its Different when being a solo guitarist and being in an actual band with a singer. I love Joes stuff but when it comes to him being in a band, I prefer EVH, and vise versa. Two different styles one for a band and the other for instrumentals. They are both good guitarist, EVH has nothing to prove to anyone. he has already done it. I don’t care if VH doesn’t make a new album they don’t have to prove a damn thing to anyone. Joe on the other hand uses too many freakin pedals…But they are both great….Sammy is Sammy I don’t like him but I don’t hate him either. If you ask me, I think he needs ed more than ed needs him……my 2 cents….
March 21st, 2009 at 9:18 pm
getoverit,
Obviously you don’t understand anything about music.
Your GLARING ignorance is amusing.
I’m not going to debate someone with no EAR about music. If you can’t hear the similarities should just keep your mouth closed so you no longer look like fool.
I think you might need to “getoverit” cause Sammy sucks.
March 21st, 2009 at 9:50 pm
Exodus, I respect your opinion. But, Sam certainly doesn’t need Ed. I think Ed is where he needs to be. Bands progress and people change, VH has changed and they need a change now more than ever. If Roth is in, then they really need to something new. Otherwise what? They are going to be a claasic rock station band. they are more than that, there is life left in that band. I think they need to to do a jam, with Dave sammy and even Gary. Have a festival with VH, Chickenfoot, and Extreme. Like it or not, that would be quite a party. Peace
March 21st, 2009 at 9:54 pm
TO, SAMMY HAGAR AND FRIENDS
YOU JUST AWOKE A SLEEPING GIANT NAMED VAN HALEN PREPARE TO BE BOARDED AND PREPARE FOR NO MERCY THE MIGHTY VAN HALEN IS ON IT’S WAY AND NO MATTER WHAT IT IS BETTER THAN YOU!!!
March 21st, 2009 at 11:11 pm
114 comments on this cf-cd and it’s all clear:
THE MIGHTY VAN HALEN RULES!!!
We’re waiting for a tour in 2009/2010
Let’s rock!
March 22nd, 2009 at 12:53 am
good sounding music. joe shows he can have different sounds. He is not a pig and has to have the notes going all the time. great beat/great funk/ great bluses. great drums and great back vocals. sams good but he should quit singing about food. and the sam scream I could live without. pretty nice though. hope the rest of the cd is better then it would get me to go to the concert
March 22nd, 2009 at 1:49 am
Who the hell cares about all of this? Radio stations don’t even play this crap anymore… When was the last time you heard a something like this on the radio? I’d rather listen to Tool…..
March 22nd, 2009 at 2:11 am
SOAP ON A ROPE IS AVG BIT 2 SLOW PACED, DOWN THE DRAIN ON THE OTHER HAND ROCKS, GEES BUT SAMMY LACKS ANY KIND OF IMAGINATION WHEN IT COMES TO VOCALS , N ONCE AGAIN NOT ENOUGH MIKEY!!!!I HOPE THERE NOT THE BEST TRACKS OFF THE ALBUM,BUT THERE IS DEF POTENTIAL
March 22nd, 2009 at 2:26 am
Down The Drain is actually not too shabby. ‘Soap on the other hand is somewhat boring and poorly written in comparison. If even half of their material is on par with these two songs, I might actually buy it. Satch definitely does not hold back and lets you know he’s part of the band.
And to all the retards posting from the other side of the fence (maybe you’re all just Roth Army homos)…grow the fuck up. We’re talking about a band that was once half of Van Halen. It’s not a contest or a war where one would need to choose up sides. Unless Eddie were to allow some “vault” material to see the light of day, I would imagine anything new that VH releases to sound just like Chickenfoot.
March 22nd, 2009 at 7:19 am
erick, its on vhnd because there are 2 ex band members in the band.when dave wasnt in the band didnt we have to hear about him and his solo (ahem) stuff.
March 22nd, 2009 at 7:34 am
Hey exodus, shit, sounds like you care, or you wouldn’t be expressing your opinion (just like the rest of us). I bet ya, all the GOOD rock stations will give Chickenfoot lots of airplay as they will when Fast Eddie releases new VH tunes. Dude relax, we still have half of the weekend left. My glass is half full, what’s yours? Keep partying!!!!
March 22nd, 2009 at 7:47 am
Adran, lol, yeah, right! Sorry dude, VH isn’t asleep, it’s in a coma.
Erick, when Sam was in VH were you griping about Dave news on VHND? Guess you’d prefer VHND just be Ed’s Home Shopping Channel…
March 22nd, 2009 at 8:00 am
I started visiting the VHND in 2006 when rumors where there that Dave would rejoin the band. From then on I came here every day to see if there was any news. Great site, except for the non-VH stuff.
And yes, I’d rather see Ed selling shamwow’s with his logo on it then I have to see anything on cf here.
March 22nd, 2009 at 8:03 am
Wow! Really awesome. Reminds me of Fair Warning, only the riffs are more to the point. Sammy has really outdone himself this time, classic stuff!
I doubt Eddie could ever top this, songwise.
March 22nd, 2009 at 8:07 am
So just skip over the ‘non’ VH stuff. A different story (or non story, more like) is just a click away. The fact that you’re so offended by anything not directly to do with the current line up suggests that it’s not about the music for you, but it’s just a team game.
March 22nd, 2009 at 8:07 am
Hey guys somebody agreed with me if i say that they sound like Rage against the machine from 02:17 to 02:30 in the “soap on a rope” song??? Anyway they sound very good.
March 22nd, 2009 at 8:29 am
Wow really boring !! I couldn’t even listen to 10 seconds of each song ! Sammy is a horrible songwriter ! I’ve got it all, so what! thats sooo boring !! Dave is so creative !!!! Dave & Eddie are an explosive combination . Put them together and nothing is better!! I,m not comparing the two bands cause there is none ! But chickenfoot sounds like a country band gone rock !!!!
March 22nd, 2009 at 9:16 am
Hey Karl, I’m not offended by cf, I just don’t like it and I think it should not be here. That’s all.
March 22nd, 2009 at 9:32 am
Some of you people have really clouded judgment. Nothing wrong with Chickenfoot, it is definitely not the second coming of LEd Zep. Satch, is a better guitarist and I feel that Ed has not really progressed since the 2nd side of 1984. That said I am not trying to diminish what ED brought to the table, he just not as innovative any more. Nothing wrong with that.
Maybe CF will open for VH this summer…..fat chance.
March 22nd, 2009 at 9:34 am
I thought both songs were ok, Satch did not come out with as much gusto I thought he would although “Down the Drain” guitar work was much better than Soap. The only way this group is going to work is to have Satch just tear it up, and have Sammy’s vocals deemphasized a little bit….both missing at this point.
GRADE C+
March 22nd, 2009 at 9:35 am
One thing’s for certain, by the number of comments here, there’s a lot of people gagging for new music… any new music.
March 22nd, 2009 at 9:42 am
I feel everybodys frustration on Eddie, but I do see the roadmap for the first time.
Ed gets Married late summer
Wolfie graduates this summer
Start working on a new album this Fall
Summer 2010 Release
Fall 2010 Tour
Write it down!
March 22nd, 2009 at 10:08 am
The album better be absolutely killer is all I can say…
March 22nd, 2009 at 10:27 am
I hope there saving their best for last, because other than some old harmony flashbacks and some Satch rifs, this is a weak effort. These sound like album fillers. I remember Sam saying he fell off his couch laughing when he first heard VH 3, I can picture Ed doing the same thing. I was hopeful Sam got his chops back after “Loud” but I Don’t know???
March 22nd, 2009 at 11:31 am
The high volume of comments here compared to much lower volume attached to the recent VH stories tells me people are stoked up about Chickenfoot, a group of guys that can actually produce something. These two songs just scratch the surface. CF’s efforts are already good, and will get much better over the coming months. Can VH transform the demos written over EVH’s “lost years” into something worthwhile? Will DLR really work well with EVH in the studio? A nostalgia tour is a walk in the park compared to cranking out new material, given Eddie’s history since the mid-80’s and DLR’s own big ego. How long can DLR stay “muzzled”, unable to say anything publically without Ed’s prior approval? I really do hope it works out for VH as well, but have some doubts, I hope I’m wrong…time will tell.
March 22nd, 2009 at 12:02 pm
Peedah, go back to 1984. Its about all you know when it comes to music. Oh and yeah, I’m sure thats exactly what CF did, they said lets try and sound like VH from 25 years ago.Lets mimmick a band thats finished. Oh and as far as an ear for music that would be an objective matter, everyone has an ear for music, fortunately we vary in what we hear. You tone tone-def dumbass, keep “crankin” it in hopes of your new VH album. Even IF it ever comes to fruition, it will be bland at best. Remember we all have a choice if you dont like Sammy, or Cf, then don’t listen. I just love how the DLR’s listen to all of Sammys music and then tear it apart.
March 22nd, 2009 at 12:13 pm
New music from”The Other Half”-Your turn Ed and Al.Just hope it does’nt take 12-15 months to record.
March 22nd, 2009 at 12:17 pm
Erick, you’ve been coming to this news desk since 2006???
You must have carpel tunnel syndrome from typing “why is this shit on here, this is not VH”. Are you a slow learner? I’m sure there’s been “this shit” on here every day since 2006!!
P.S. You should reverse the extra “k” in your name. Huh, huh, that would be cool.
March 22nd, 2009 at 12:33 pm
my dear friend getoverit,
I could give a rats ass if CVH ever records again. There are six albums that I will never get tired of. It has been said that 99% of all earth’s species are extinct…VH is one of them. Maybe you should “getoverit” that this a Van Halen site, and that many original VH fans can’t stand stand Haggar…couldn’t stand his cheesy little solo career from the early eighties, didn’t during his 4 studio album VH stint, nor now. And yes! peace to you too, I truly hope you find some.
March 22nd, 2009 at 1:05 pm
Hey iwannaberr, you’re funny. At least I’m using my own name.
And yes, I’m a slow learner. Very slow, actually.
Good call!
I come here since 2006. Before that I did not have much to do here. Was still Van Hagar News Desk. I knew my place.
I will help all the intelligent guys a little bit: http://www.chickenfoot.us
Just let us simple guys rock on the VAN HALEN NEWS DESK with THE MIGHTY VAN HALEN !
March 22nd, 2009 at 1:31 pm
139 comments and counting, and the drama continues…..
March 22nd, 2009 at 1:45 pm
Sounds Awesome!!! All of it rhythm, vocals, guitar. It’s not Van Halen and it’s not suppose to be. Just enjoy it and if you don’t like it enjoy listening to old Van Halen albums over and over and over again.
March 22nd, 2009 at 2:21 pm
i’d rather have new van halen (even with roth) but i doubt it will ever happen.
March 22nd, 2009 at 2:24 pm
“Just let us simple guys rock on the VAN HALEN NEWS DESK with THE MIGHTY VAN HALEN !”
Boy, are you missing the point…
March 22nd, 2009 at 2:35 pm
What point??
March 22nd, 2009 at 3:11 pm
To VHND: We need a new article, I don’t want to scroll much further. I drop my mouse all the time.
March 22nd, 2009 at 3:55 pm
This shit is funny!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
March 22nd, 2009 at 4:15 pm
WOW! yes, so much frustration and anger in you. How sad listening to the same old albums over and over. What a boring existance, trapped in the past. BTW, I no it chaps your vintage little ass, but anything Sammy does will always be on the VHND, because he was a significant part of Vh even though you dont like him. So I was wondering, when you listen to the same old stuff do you do it while wearing your original hide your sheep concert shirt. Thank you by the way for hoping i find peace, what a kind gesture. Now I’ll let you go back to 1982, have fun drinking your tab and playing colecovison
March 22nd, 2009 at 4:16 pm
Erick_ LOL on the mouse comment. I still laughing
March 22nd, 2009 at 4:40 pm
For a minute, let’s leave Sammy and Dave out of this.
If you are a true Van Halen fan, like I am, then you know Michael Anthony was screwed regardless of how you feel about Sammy or Dave’s situations with the band.
If anybody deserves to have success after VH it’s Mikey.
So, all you Sammy haters out there need to give Mikey’s new band a chance instead of automatically hating it because of the lead singer.
BTW— JROD I thought I was the only one who liked Motley Crue with Corabi. LOL
March 22nd, 2009 at 4:51 pm
Mikey did get screwed.
March 22nd, 2009 at 5:26 pm
Mike was salaried from day one. How was he screwed? He was a hired bass player and agreed to play for what he was paid. He could have walked at any time if he didn’t like the situation. I watched the recent VHND interviews with Mike and he’s just as gossipy as Sammy or Ed.
It’s also funny that someone said “go back to 1984″, as if Chickenfoot was in anyway whatsover modern. But like I’ve said, I hope CF sells a bunch of records. If they’re having fun, good for them.
Party on, rockers! Guys, we got to see Dave and Ed onstage many times in the last two years. ANYTHING is possible. No more hatin’.
March 22nd, 2009 at 6:09 pm
Heck Yea, Mike got screwed!!!!!!! Why did he get screwed????????? Because He wanted to actually play music instead of just sitting around!!!!!!!!! Chickenfoot is better then anything thing that they are playing on the radio right now, because it´s real Rock and Roll!!!!!!!!!!!!
March 22nd, 2009 at 6:13 pm
I just wanna thank you all for making this a place we can all come with our gripes , hopes and opinions….Long Live The Mighty Van Halen!!!!!!!
March 22nd, 2009 at 7:54 pm
Wow, lotta comments. I have not had time to take a look at this till now. Soap on a rope disappointed me. Sounds TOO MUCH like Black Dog. Every time the one riff was played it made me cringe. I thought it was a little too close for comfort. Down the drain is good. Sammy’s singing feels uninspired on both tracks though. I love sammy, but lately his singing feels like it is going down the tubes and his lyric writing is not doing well either.
March 22nd, 2009 at 8:11 pm
FACT!! Sammy IS the weak link in this Chickenfoot! Really liked Satch’s playing, Mike is predictable but solid as is Chad. But Sammy makes this sound old, boring, predictable and middle of the road. They should have called on someone like Chris Cornell to take on the gig!! Oh yeah now we’re talkin’!!! Chris Cornell would have taken the band by the balls and made them young again!!!
NOW I really can’t wait for the new Van Halen album to come out!!! With Wolfie and Diamond Dave back in Van Halen, all of a sudden the mighty Van Halen are BACK!!! And they haven’t even release any new music for over 10 years!!!
March 22nd, 2009 at 8:42 pm
hey you are right scar, this will get played for about a week or two.
March 22nd, 2009 at 8:43 pm
Van Botox: Old n Busted.
Chickenfoot: Shiny and Awesome.
March 22nd, 2009 at 8:51 pm
go chickenfoot go vanhalen
March 22nd, 2009 at 11:36 pm
chris, what makes you so sure VH will ever release anything?i would love to hear new stuff but TBO i dont think its coming unless its 2 songs on yet another best of.we VH fans have been strung along enough and its time to stop rewarding them for cashing in on “jump” and “panama”.
March 23rd, 2009 at 4:38 am
Who knows? Maybe Wolfie got some song ideas laying around?
March 23rd, 2009 at 5:06 am
Yeah, I bet he’s got a whole ton of songs, just ready to go… like his dad.
March 23rd, 2009 at 5:33 am
Where is the next story???????
March 23rd, 2009 at 6:03 am
I REALLY like this!
As I’ve stated before, I guess with the amazing number of posts on this so far, that the fans AND the haters will be equally excited about this project. (Something to love, and something to trash Sammy about.)
Say one thing about Sammy…love him or not…he sure seems to command your attention.
I am SO happy to have a new CD and tour to be excited about this summer!!!!!!!!!!!!
See you at the BBQ!
March 23rd, 2009 at 6:27 am
Face it, VH’s new tunes will be totally unique. The three tunes in 04 sucked because Sammy’s tired lyrics and tired melodies don’t work anymore. Be different if Sammy were able to progress as well but he can’t. VH are in a whole different league and the Diamond One will add his own unique touch as well.
Sorry Sammy fans, Sammy is tired and old and well… irrelevant.
March 23rd, 2009 at 7:16 am
I completely forgot about Up For Breakfast. That was miserable.
March 23rd, 2009 at 7:24 am
Next article, please!
March 23rd, 2009 at 7:58 am
And the next article is about… ChikenFoot! lol! SCAR and Erick are going to be crying like babies…
March 23rd, 2009 at 8:25 am
ROCK!
March 23rd, 2009 at 9:24 am
I agree with DiamondDLR. But I think Satriani is hands down a better guitarist…no comparison. I think he is amazing in these two new songs. I’ve always liked Sammy, but it seems from what I’ve heard that he is running out of things to sing about. Lyrics struggle a bit.
In his latest stint with VH, Up for Breakfast, It’s about time…those songs sucked. The vocals were awful, and I hope this doesn’t happen on this new album.
I really liked it though…besides that! Satch is a monster!
March 23rd, 2009 at 10:21 am
At the very least, all you fools are very entertaining.
March 23rd, 2009 at 10:39 am
there is so much chickenfoot news because there is nothing to report about van halen besides how many years its been since this or that has been released or maybe eddie selling some gear or telling us about the 3 albums he has sitting around.its been 11 years since a new album has been released so stop talking and do something.
March 23rd, 2009 at 1:01 pm
Chickenfoot is more akin to Montrose than VH. And I’m fine with that. These two songs are polished and sound great. Those complaining about the lyrics or vocals can suck it. This is really good new music. I’m looking forward to Van Halen’s new CD when they get around to doing it.
But it’s nice to have some veteran rockers put out new music that kicks ass. Satriani has a really good groove, Mikey sounds great (now that he can be heard), and Chad Smith really doesn’t get enough credit for his drum work tying these songs together.
Chickenfoot rocks baby!
March 23rd, 2009 at 3:09 pm
not impressed at all. ya satch is good on it but i expected more outa sammy….especially after the whole comparin them to zep.
March 23rd, 2009 at 3:41 pm
Dont see 174 comments on any VH related article. Probably never will.

These guys, Chickenfoot, are having fun.. that’s what it’s all about. I don’t really care what band anyone was or is a part of; if they are out there having fun and the people going to see them are having fun, well, what else can any fan of music ask for?
Is Eddie the greatest guitarist of all time? Well, no. Maybe the best at playing Van Halen tunes, but what about greats such as: Chet Atkins, Jeff Beck, Steve Lukather, Steve Morse, etc., etc, etc. These guys are all excellent musicians in their own right, so to say that anyone is the best guitarst of all time is a very shortsighted generalization.

some great comments here…
CRYSTAL DAWN…give me a break…you’re comparing Chickenfoot to theoretical new music from VH that hasn’t yet been released?
I completely understand you love VH and are blind to the merit of anything else, but comparing something that now “exists” to something that may never come to be is completely assinine. (i.e. Joe’s new stuff is good…but Eddie MIGHT play a song in a few years from now that MIGHT really rock…blah blah blah…)
I was right…Sammy DOES make music fans AND the haters happy…one celebrate something, and the others are just happy to have something to complain about.
Given how good CF sounds, I guess both music fans AND you delusional haters will have plenty to talk about this year. (Like him or not, you CAN’T ignore Sammy…he has your attention and you emphasize it with every one of your posts!)
Oh yeah…and UP FOR BREAKFAST was a fun song that was sung really well, but of course you Dave-or-nothing fans can’t deal with that because it was new music by VH that was made after the year 2000 and despite the VH reunion of last year there is still now NEW music…despite Eddie’s delusional claims that he could fill albums worth of material. (But who cares if it sounds like VH3?????????)
Smile everyone…it’s ROCK ‘N ROLL!!!!!!!!

Is it just me or does the spoken vocals on Down the Drain sound very DLR-esgue?
DLR’s diminishing vocal skills have been criticized over the years, and it appears that Sammy is following suit…dude is starting to sound his age (60 years old!).
If nothing else, this Chickenfoot deal might light a fire under Eddie, Alex and Dave to get some new music out sooner rather than later.

Hey SCAR, nice comment on what I said previously about Sammy’s lyrics being tired and just the same old crap from him. I mean, while you are attacking me for no reason at all about a solid 35% of the people that posted on this thread feel the same way and say his lyrics suck, because guess what, THEY DO SUCK.
Now why the attack I wonder? Maybe you are the one who is having trouble getting laid? It would make sense with all of this pent up anger you display. By the way, I am not having any issues with the ladies but if you are offering up your mother or wife, I say there is always room for one more over my way—-

Wanted to like the songs, but just did’nt.Happy that Mike is playing again, but just could’nt get past the 500 pound gorilla in the room-the guitar sound lacks the EVH edge and drive. I hope the project does well and that they tour the NYC area, but something was missing.

I agree with Chris!
Chris Cornell would be awesome in Chickenfoot!! Maybe something Satch should ponder when this Chickenfoot fizzle’s out and grows old!!

The trouble with Chickenfoot is all the fun they´re having. It sounds forced.

Sam haters just chill ok. I’ve read many comments and have not seen one real good reason to hate on him except you have nothing better to do. Get a life, these guys are rockin, having fun and sharing the party with all the TRUE fans.

Pete. I couldn’t agree more. I love how these jackasses are comparing Cf to Vh music that doesn’t exist. First they say Sammy is washed up or, he sux and can’t sing, now Craig says the end of down the drain sounds “DLR-esque”!! Laughable, just unbelieveable. These huys are so hard up for new VH music that they are trying to make sammy sound like Dave. Of course we all know that Sammy can out sing dave any day. Dave might be able to hop around on stage with a top hot better than Sammy can, but when it comes down to it if you cant sing you aint got song. DLR’s keep holding your breath, some day!

You’re the one visiting the Van Halen News Desk to read about Hagar, not me. I come here out of some sense of optimism, but mostly because these comments crack me up.
I agree Pete, if another VH3 is all we have coming, I’ll pass….again. However, Pete, why can’t I dislike Up For Breakfast because I think it is a crap song. You can’t accept that it is nothing personal against Sammy. Same with Why Can’t This Be Love. I don’t dislike it because Dave isn’t there. I dislike it because it blows. You seem to think that we don’t want to like it and that simply is not the case. I REALLY wanted to like CF, but it just has no magic to me. Again, that’s all opinion. Some people will like it some won’t. The nature of the biz. If I didn’t want to like something, I wouldn’t give it a listen in the first place. You GO girl! Anyway, it’s only rock and roll. HAVE A DRINK ON ME!
