Cosmic Universal Fashion CDSammy Hagar’s new CD, Cosmic Universal Fashion is being released next week, on Nov. 18th.

Want to hear some of the album RIGHT NOW?

Then click here to listen to Sammy’s interview on Rockline last week, where he plays some of the album and takes phone calls from fans. It’s about an hour long, and it’s great!

OUR REVIEW: The album is fantastic! It’s “classic-Sammy” enough to please all his longtime fans, and it’s also different enough to surprise them.

This album is much harder rock than Sammy’s somewhat country-sounding, fun-in-the-sun effort, Living It Up. Many fans will consider it a welcome step back into hard rock territory, while still being a FUN album. Every fan of Sammy’s solo career and every Sammy-era Van Halen fan should get this album!

Song per song:

1. Cosmic Universal Fashion - If you heard the music to this track without Sammy’s voice over it, you’d never dream that it could be a Sammy song. The music is very different than what you’d expect. It’s an interesting departure. Although it’s a good song and an interesting departure, most of his fans will like many songs on the album more than this.
2. Psycho Vertigo -
Now we’re talkin’! HARD & HEAVY! A KILLER song! Written with Planet Us.
3. Peephole -
A whole new level of heaviness, and the cocals and lyrics are very DARK. The subject matter is quite disturbing. Written with Planet Us.
4. LOUD - Sammy’s new Big-Rock anthem. This is his favorite song on the CD.
5. Fight For Your Right To Party -
This Beastie Boys cover doesn’t do much for us. We usually skip it.
6. Switch On The Light -
Very unique, fun, bluesy song. Great stuff!
7. When The Sun Don’t Shine -
Wonderful song - kinda country & has some Hawaiian slide guitar. Sounds like it could have been one of the better songs from Livin It Up.
8. 24365 -
Fun & funky, this song KICKS ASS! Maybe our favorite song on the album.
9. I’m On A Roll -
A hard rocker that Sammy wrote for Nascar.
10. Dreams/Cabo -
This live acoustic track mentally transports you right in the middle of a Sammy concert, just in time for the encore.

Here is a video for “Loud” that was made by a fan, “BiteMeVids” on Youtube.

Click here to order the CD at Van Halen Store. Your CD will ship this Saturday, Nov. 15th, and you’ll SAVE $5 off the list price.

The album is pretty varied. I think it will grow on me, but I agree the Beasties cover should have been left off. There is some nice heaviness on the album and I need to find some nice stretches of time in my car so I can crank it and give it a proper listen.

    Bring on ChickenFoot!

From the brief clips on Amazon, I would say this sounds a lot like DLR Band.

I like about 75% of this CD.

The Beasties cover is lame and the live “Dreams/Cabo” sing-along is pathetic.

There are two Sammy Hagars. One, the solo Sammy, and two, the Van Halen Sammy.

I just keep wishing the solo Sammy would sound like the Van Halen Sammy.

I wish that Sammy would quite trying to put different kinds of music on one CD. A few rock songs, then funk, then blues, then zydeco.. Come on! It makes the CD very hard to listen to all the way through.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m a true Redhead, I will buy a CD of sammy making spitting noises. But, just one more time -for the old days- I wish Sammy would make a record off all hard rock songs that you can have on during a BBQ party and not be embarrased when a song comes on that is suddenly out of place.
Sammy: you nailed it on LOUD. Awesome!! Now, do that 10 more times, add a ballad - then watch that CD go to platinum!

I’m mixed on Sammy Hagar’s Cosmic Universal Fashion review. The title track and Loud have been ingrained in my head and now I’m compelled to hit repeat. Those two songs make it worth buying the CD. However, save some $ and download them:) Really, I can’t seem to listen to either of those songs enough. I like the the live version of Dreams/Cabo even though my impression would be of “oh, been there done that.” Instead, it really makes me want to drive or fly down to Cabo for a week and forget the real world. Here’s where I get a bit mixed on the music. At first listen ‘Switch on the Light’ and ‘When the Sun Don’t Shine’ sound like fillers. Then you find your self wanting to the jam to the end of ‘Switch on the Light’ and huming the begining to ‘When the Sun Don’t Shine’. Damn, your hooked on both songs but hate to like them because they just don’t fit the rest of the CD vibe. But hey, this CD is varied. 24365….I really don’t know what to tell you however, the song feels like your living in a frat party that hasn’t ended or won’t end. It is upbeat for sure. Jury’s out on if I like it or not yet. Fight for your right to party, well you will either like it or not. He did this song in Tampa and it was awesome; which is why I think he had it added to the CD. Sam, added some old school rock with deep and heavy sounds with ‘Psycho Vertigo’ and ‘Peephole’. I find myself skipping both those songs. They are not bad songs and have a lot to them but much to dark for this CD. Hands down the # 1 skipped song on this CD is ‘I’m on a roll’. This is by far the worst song he has ever done; as the song sings like a commercial. Overall, is this Sam’s best ever? No. Yet, this is the best work he’s done since 2000 when he released Ten 13. For those who like Sam’s music then there are without a doubt 3-5 songs worth listening to. Again, Cosmic Universal Fashion and Loud are jamin’ hypnotic rock tunes that are going to be essential Hagar classics. Thumbs up.
