Eddie recorded the masterful “Little Guitars” for Diver Down聽using his original red, white, and black-striped Charvel “Franky” and a miniature Gibson Les Paul copy hand-built by Dave Petschulat. Effects included a Roland Chorus/Echo unit.
The lyrics were inspired by the acoustic intro. David Lee Roth felt the piece had a Mexican flavor in it, so he wrote the lyrics for a senorita. The line “Can’t crow before I’m out of the woods, but there’s exceptions to the rule” is an old saying that means: a crow flying through the forest won’t make any noise, or it will draw attention to itself and could get eaten. It will wait until it’s out in the open before crowing, but there are exceptions to this rule.
Lyrics
Senorita, I’m in trouble again,
And I cant get free (Senorita)
Hear exactly what the doctor ordered,
Come and talk to me
(Ah) Can’t crow before Im outa the woods but there’s exceptions to the rule
(Ah) Senorita do you need a friend, I’m in love with you
Etch a Sketch, etch a sketch
can anybody in their right mind could see,
It’s you and me Oooh
You say you’re lonesome just getting by,
But you turn your eyes from me,
Be sure you’re hurting long before you fly,
Cause you got me
Etch a Sketch, etch a sketch
can anybody in their right mind could see,
Its you and me Oooh
Etch a Sketch, etch a sketch
Yeah when I see you and your little guitars sing to me
I can see you dont know which way to turn,
But the sun still shines (Senorita)
Dont you know that you can dance with me,
Anytime (Ah)
Oh oh oh oooh oh
Oh oh oh oooh
