Michael Anthony Says A Side Project May Be In His Future

by Eric Senich — updated March 23, 2023 Leave a Comment

Michael Anthony might be forming his own band soon. The former Van Halen bassist recently hinted at the possibility of his own side project during a recent radio appearance.

While Anthony was a guest on SiriusXM’s Trunk Nation yesterday, he teased fans with the news.

“Well, I wasn’t going to mention anything about it, but there is a little side project thing that I’ve kind of been speaking to some people, and might be doing a couple of things with,” responded Anthony. “I don’t wanna get ahead of myself and mention too much, but it might involve [Bon Jovi guitarist] Phil X and John Douglas, who you know as [the touring drummer] for Aerosmith right now. I’ve known J.D. for many years, since he’s worked with Van Halen. What a great guy. And we do have a singer. I don’t wanna mention any names, but a really, really cool singer. And we’re recording just for fun right now, some stuff. That’s all I can say.”

Douglas has been Alex Van Halen’s drum tech dating back to 1998. He’s been the premier drum customizer for the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Bon Jovi, ZZ Top, Pantera, Iron Maiden and Aerosmith who called on Douglas to fill in for Joey Kramer back in 2019. Phil X has been Bon Jovi’s lead guitarist since 2016.

Anthony appeared on SiriusXM to promote his appearance at a fundraising event and concert benefiting Save The Heartbeat on Saturday (March 25) at Tiki Bar in Costa Mesa, California. Also performing at the show will be Phil X, Hagar and John 5, among other musicians.

  • L. Sammondson L. Sammondson David Lee Roth cannot sing. It's not 1979, and he did not just track Women in Love in a studio, one of multiple takes. Roth can be an awful singer live, and much worse later than he's...
