The Eddie Van Halen-Inspired Hairdos On ‘Stranger Things 4’

by VHND — updated June 8, 2022 Leave a Comment

Ah yes, the good ole 1980s. Remember those hairdos? The people behind the making of Stranger Things certainly do, specifically Eddie Van Halen’s rockin’ “do”s from that decade. So much so they decided to pay homage to a few of them in the latest season of the hit Netflix series.

Stranger Things‘ lead hairstylist Sarah Hindsgaul shared the inspiration behind the wigs used to create the ’80s-inspired hairstyles in season four (which takes place in the year 1986) with Allure magazine. Among them is for the character Eddie Munson played by actor Joseph Quinn.

“[Eddie’s hair] is based on Eddie Van Halen,” Hindsgaul told Allure‘s Kirbie Johnson. “We had five fittings for Joe. I was nervous about actually cutting it short on top. It has movement. I love wigs, but I don’t like wigs that sit like hats on people’s heads. If you can’t move, I’d rather not [use them].”

Hindsgaul added that the hairdo of the character Mike Wheeler, played by Finn Wolfhard, was also inspired by Eddie.
