Eddie Van Halen’s childhood home now serves as a memorial to the GOAT. According to many sources, the tribute and another outside a nearby liquor store attract a steady stream of traffic day and night.
PCC Courier News Editor and Staff Writer Mark Sovel took photos of the growing shrines after being assigned to write Eddie’s detailed obituary.
According to the Associated Press, people are sharing memories with each other as they mourn the loss. Jackie Gibson, whose younger brother was childhood friends with the Van Halens, said the memorials are much needed.
“We need that right now,” Gibson said. “We really haven’t had a chance to celebrate with everything being closed down. It’s a time people can come together and heal.”
On Friday, The Forest, a stunt double, drummer and vocalist, visited the property, which still features the shed in the back, to show the display and “RIP Eddie Van Halen we love you” chalked on the street.
That night, a pickup truck stopped in front of the house and cranked some Van Halen music.
A nearby liquor store serves as a second memorial. It was on a curb here that, as legend has it, Eddie and brother Alex scrawled the family name many years ago.
Memorials are popping up in other places, too, including at the Guitar Center on Sunset Boulevard in Hollywood, where Eddie’s handprints are permanently on display.
