‘The Roth Show’ Episode 2: ‘Jump’ Remix, Ultra & More

A little of The Roth Show ain’t enough not just for Diamond Dave but, judging by the responses, for his fans too.

Less than a week after releasing a long-awaited brand new episode of The Roth Show (his first since August of 2016) David Lee Roth returned with a follow up episode to continue regaling fans with more of the story behind his recent surprise appearance with DJ Armin van Buuren at the Ultra Music Festival in Miami.

Titled “Ultra Dave…Part 2” Roth leads the latest episode by transforming his voice into deep, baritone nighttime DJ delivery mode stating, “The Roth Show, back by popular demand….We’re not just a show baby…we’re a brand.”

By popular demand indeed. Quickly after the video was uploaded to YouTube it hit a homerun with fans. As of the time this article was written, last week’s episode 1 has 96% thumbs up, and nothing but love in the comments section. Comments include: “Man I could listen to Dave for days”, “Keep ‘em comin’ Dave!”, “Please NEVER STOP THE ROTH SHOW!!!!!!!!!!!” and “The man, the myth, the legend”.

The latest episode, which runs nearly an hour and a half, features Roth revealing more of what went down on the day of the Ultra Music Festival (held last Saturday night) including what led to his partnership with van Buuren, van Buuren’s remix of the Van Halen classic “Jump” and their appearance together on stage.

It’s hard to believe that Roth hasn’t done just about everything at least once in his lifetime but getting to a gig in a speedboat was one…until last weekend.

“How we got there…Totally rock star,” said Roth. “I’ve gotten to work a lot of different ways…This time we took a speedboat. Instead of the usual SUV, instead of the usual car, any motorcade or anything we took a speedboat, like a cigarette speedboat, like a Donzi [powerboat].”

“As we’re making our way to the show it’s actually on another island,” Roth continued. “You can see the island glowing and you can hear the thump, thump. Along the way I was watching all of the boat traffic that’s just normal for Miami Beach which is stupendo colossal. That’s an actual rate of numbering. WOW!”

As for Roth’s thoughts on the “Jump” remix, he was instantly sold on van Buuren’s version which was mixed with just the right added ingredients.

“You like the barbecue? You like a little swing and sting ok? I love hot cocoa but if you put a little bit of cayenne in there. Wooh! It’s a little bit mo,” said Roth. “A little sea-salt in the caramel ice cream, mmm-hmmm! That’s what the remix did and I think that whenever somebody does the remix why wouldn’t you wanna get on stage in front of all those millions of folks around the world? Average attendance on our gig this weekend was close to half a million. You’re preachin’ to the convinced already. Here we go!”
