One Foot Out The Door

DoorOne Foot out the Door by Van Halen on Grooveshark

“One Foot Out The Door” is the 9th and final track on Fair Warning.

This fast tempo song, which acts as a continuation of the ominous previous track “Sunday Afternoon In The Park“, finds the challenged speaker having an affair with a woman whose mean old man is coming home.  Also short of two minutes, the final song, with its pedal to the metal, again features the driving synthesized sounds of the previous instrumental. It’s an insane track which showcases a wicked synth line, followed by one of the most ferocious and mind-blowing guitar solos Eddie Van Halen has ever recorded. And with that, Fair Warning comes to an exhausting close.

Fair Warning‘s closing track was reportedly recorded on the quick. Producer Ted Templeman suggested that the idea for this song was inspired by the pace at which Van Halen albums were being recorded at the time.

Lyrics:

I grabbed that telephone
I thought we were alone
Telling me there’s company
Your husband’s comin’ home
I’ve been thinking about this Saturday night with you
I’ve been thinking about it all week long
And now I’m gonna lose it ’cause that
Son-of-a-bitch got me singin’ that same old song
Got one foot out the door
Tryin’ to hit the road
Ain’t no match for your mean old man
I think it’s time to roll
Got one foot out the door
Got one foot out the door
Think I’m gonna fight him?
Don’t you let him put down
Put that to the floor
Put the pedal to the metal
And you beat it out of town
Comin’ back, back for more
