30 years ago today, Van Halen’s performance at Toronto’s The Molson Ampitheatre was professionally filmed for the purpose of a pay-per-view special, and subsequent release on home video.
Soon after the band completed the 1995 Balance tour, the pay-per-view special aired as planned, with huge success. The band then planned on releasing a home video of the Toronto show in 1996, but their lineup with Sammy Hagar dissolved before that could happen, and the plans to officially release the concert for home video were nixed, and the footage was shelved indefinitely.
We can only guess if this will ever be officially released. But for now, we can watch the concert on YouTube. Enjoy the video, below!
Note that there are two YouTube videos of this show to watch. The first is the complete Pay-Per-View Special, which includes most of the concert, but not all of it. The second video is not the Pay-Per-View version. It’s only an hour long, but contains four additional songs which weren’t on the Pay-Per-View. All the footage is from Aug. 18th and 19th, 1995.
