Being David Lee Roth’s number one target. Now that’s a new one for Wolfgang Van Halen. But it’s not as if he’s all that surprised.
During a recent radio interview with 99X in Atlanta, Wolfgang responded to the disparaging comments recently directed towards him by Roth. In a video posted to his YouTube channel in January titled “This fuckin’ kid…” (later changed to “This crazy kid…”), Roth suggested Wolfgang has benefited greatly from nepotism, alleged Wolfgang complained about not getting enough attention on stage during Van Halen concerts. He added that, as a result of being ignored on stage, Wolfgang took revenge on Roth by throwing his guests out of two concerts.
“I guess I’m honored he even thinks about me as much as he seems to,” Wolfgang said. “I guess you have to take what he says with a grain of salt considering he also said that he wrote ‘Eruption’ and came up with the Frankenstein [red-white-black pattern]. He said he wrote all the solos that dad wrote.
“I seem to have been born into this Van Halen drama that has come way before me,” added Wolfgang. “And I guess now that my dad isn’t here to be a target, I guess he went to the next best thing.”
