Steve Stevens Reminisces About Working with Van Halen Members

by Jeff Goebel — updated March 29, 2024 Leave a Comment

From his first meeting with Edward Van Halen at 5150 Studios in 1987, through his final 2013 interaction with Eddie and Wolfgang on Tour in Australia, Billy Idol guitarist Steve Stevens recently shared his career experiences with Edward and Van Halen band members.

Stevens, who appeared on Final Resonance TV hosted by the Van Halen News Desk’s Jeff Goebel, first met Eddie at 5150 studios to rehearse for their performance at the 1987 Namm Jamm. Six years later, he would meet up with Eddie again when he toured with Van Halen in 1993 as lead guitarist for Vince Neil’s solo band. Stevens has an interesting place in David Lee Roth history. After Roth departed from Van Halen in 1985, Stevens was approached by Roth to be his guitarist in his Eat ‘Em and Smile Band.

Recently, Stevens shared the stage with Sammy Hagar, Michael Anthony, and Kenny Aronoff to perform Van Halen’s 1991 single “Poundcake”.

Stevens tells of that experience and his other opportunities to interact or jam with Eddie, Alex, Wolfgang, Roth, Hagar, Anthony, Van Halen producer Ted Templeman, and Valerie Bertinelli in the video below. Go on this amazing 36-year Van Halen Journey with Steve Stevens!

  • dman dman You don’t! You may give lip service to liking both, but you and your ilk prefer Sammy all day. That’s fine, but let’s stop pretending that you dig both eras.

  • NinjaChiquirita NinjaChiquirita It appears that DLR has cancelled the remainder of his tour dates with one exception: Sturgis. Glad that I didn't buy tickets for Laughlin in September.
