Amazing unseen Super 8 footage of Van Halen performing live back in 1978 has surfaced!
The video below of Van Halen performing at the Niagara Falls Convention Center in Niagara Falls, New York on September 8th, 1978 was uploaded to the YouTube channel “Speedy”. The channel was launched as a tribute to Jim Kelly aka “Speedy”, who passed away in January of 2021. Kelly worked as a professional photographer at many major live music events in the 70s and 80s. He also enjoyed videography and often filmed the shows with a Super 8 camera. He left his collection of films to his friend Rob Gronfors.
Not long after the video surfaced, Van Halen fan Tanner Yordan was able to insert audio of the show with the original footage:
Friend of the Van Halen News Desk Johnny Beane found out about the video from Van Halen historian Greg Renoff, who posted the video to his Twitter account earlier today. Below is video of Johnny breaking the news:
A big thank you to Jim Kelly for his most excellent work (R.I.P. Jim) and his friend Rob Gronfors, who shared this rare footage with the fans!
