It was also cool to see Josh Freese and Taylor’s son Shane perform onstage wearing their red-white-and-black striped EVH Swim Shorts. What Taylor would wear in honor of Eddie became something worn in honor of Taylor, too.
“It should come as no surprise that Taylor Hawkins was a huge fucking Van Halen fan,” said Grohl, who performed bass duties during Wolf’s set. “Didn’t you see those shorts he would wear every night? “

Another highlight of the show was when Shane Hawkins, Taylor Hawkin’s 16-year-old son, took his father’s position behind the drumkit. Seeing him smash out the drums to “My Hero”, as a tribute to his departed dad, was another heart-touching moment.
