Meet Sophie Burrell. She is currently Britain’s rising star of the guitar and, as you’re about to find out, well versed in Van Halen.
Burrell releases a series of videos on YouTube featuring covers of classic guitar rock songs; among them are nearly a handful of Van Halen songs. Her most recent (above) is of “Panama”.
Burrell, now 21, has gone from launching her own YouTube channel around the age of 14 to recently writing her own single “Tranquility” (below) and earning her very own Paul Reed Smith (aka PRS) Guitars endorsement. Just recently she was the subject of a feature article by Guitar.com, who called her “Britain’s Rising Star Of Instrumental Guitar”.
“Guitar has been a really big part of my life for as long as I can remember,” Burrell told Guitar.com. “When I was five, I watched the movie School Of Rock, and since that age I knew what I wanted to be. You know when you’re in primary school and they have those ‘Dress up as what you want to be when you grow up’ days? “I have a distinct memory of going as ‘Rock Chick’ and Mum putting in colourful hair extensions and stuff like that. So, I knew from a super young age that I wanted to be in the music industry.”
Burrell also told Guitar.com her main amp for live rigs is an EVH 5150 100-watt head.
Below are more of Burrell’s Van Halen covers:
“JUDGMENT DAY”
“UNCHAINED”
“JUMP”
