Ridin’ off into the “Low-Rez Sunset” with Diamond Dave!
Check out this short fan animation video created by artist Ramses Rios who has a YouTube channel devoted to David Lee Roth called The Mojo Dojo. The video features original character and art illustrations from Roth’s The Soggy Bottom series and his immersive interactive comic The Roth Project along with the song “Lo-Rez Sunset” featuring John 5 on guitar. It’s one of five new songs which debuted on The Roth Project in November.
Rios posted the following to YouTube along with the video:
“A David Lee Roth short-animated music video? Hell yeah let’s make it! Since we haven’t had a DLR music video in a while, but we have gotten bits of new music here and there and loads of amazing art, why not make a fan/tribute music video animation with Dave’s art and new music??! Great idea!
Probably one of the most difficult yet super fun things I’ve attempted- animating; and I managed to pull it off. I’ve always loved animation, but have never animated or given it a try. I’m always wanting to learn something new, explore some uncharted boundaries, and just go for the unknown. And if its DLR related, you know I’m all up for it and will do 150% and beyond.
Started this David Lee Roth inspired motion animation back in February when we Texan’s froze our asses off in a crazy freeze we got. We had no power, no heater, but I had my iPhone and Dave’s incredible art on his website to be inspired by and come up with an idea and creation.
It may be 1:36 long, but this thing took nearly 3 1/2 months. Over 1200 frames. Had to redraw and repaint Dave’s illustrations to get the “motion” and “animated” feel. All was made on my iPhone. Honestly, how cool would it be if Dave put out a new music video with one of his new unreleased John5 songs, that would be awesome!
Enjoy this David Lee Roth inspired short animation and go check out Dave’s amazing art on his website if you haven’t!“
