Heart’s Nancy Wilson has released a storyteller video performance of her Eddie Van Halen tribute song “4 Edward”.
The track is taken from Wilson’s debut solo album, “You And Me”, which will be released on May 7 via Carry On Music. The LP was recorded primarily in Wilson’s California home studio, working with band members and special guests remotely.
Before performing the acoustic track Wilson shared the story behind the song.
“I met [Eddie] in the 80s. Our two bands were playing together,” said Wilson. “He complimented me on my acoustic guitar playing which blew my mind. And I said, ‘Why don’t you play more acoustic?’ and he said, ‘Well I don’t really have one.’ And I was like, ‘That’s insane. You’re having one right now.’ I gave him an acoustic guitar right then and there.
“Later that [night], early next dawn breaking morning, oh dark thirty, my hotel room phone rings and it’s Eddie playing the acoustic, playing me a beautiful piece of acoustic guitar,” she continued. “[It was] kinda classical, kinda rock, and then ending with more classical. When I did this tribute to Eddie I was trying to recreate what I remember; what I vaguely remember hearing that distant morning in the 80s. This is ‘4 Edward’.
