David Lee Roth surprised School of Rock students — and their equally starstruck parents — Monday when he showed up to the Allentown school.
The Van Halen frontman stopped at the school while his touring band was rehearsing for tonight’s performance, opening for Kiss at Allentown’s PPL Center.
Roth’s team contacted the School of Rock Allentown inquiring about a rehearsal space. After exchanging messages and settling on a time, the band showed up around 2:30 p.m. Monday to start playing through songs.
Around 5 p.m., “Diamond Dave” appeared.
“He came in and the guy’s really larger than life. He stopped in the parking lot to greet one of our young keyboard students and their dad, which was really cool, ” said Ray Thierrin, School of Rock co-owner and general manager.
Roth signed autographs, posed for pictures, and chatted with students and parents during his brief visit. Roth also held the door open for a student carrying in his Eddie Van Halen-model guitar — causing a reaction Thierrin said was priceless.” You should have seen the look on the kid’s face,” Thierrin said, chuckling.
