We have three new Van Halen-related videos from Jacob Deraps…
First, Jacob points out the “mistake” in “Eruption” that Eddie Van Halen has admitted to in at least one interview (“I didn’t even play it right,” he told Guitar World. “There’s a mistake at the top end of it. Whenever I hear it, I always think, ‘Man, I could have played that better.”)
Jacob says, “Eddie stated that he could have played it better because of a mistake he did at the top end of the song, he accidentally hit the higher fret, but it is barely noticeable, and even sounds pretty cool. I hope you enjoy!”
We think of it as more of a “happy little accident” than a mistake, but it’s interesting to see it pointed out. But of course, great rock ‘n’ roll is full of these!
Additionally, the video below contains new live footage of Jacob Deraps’ band covering Van Halen’s “On Fire” at Jack Saloon last week. Jacob is playing guitar and singing lead, so he’s performing both Eddie Van Halen’s and David Lee Roth’s parts simultaneously. We think he knocks it out of the park! (With Josh Gallagher on drums, and William Lachance on bass)
Lastly, here’s Jacob jamming “Unchained” (and more) on the “Unchained” guitar (EVH Striped Series Circles Guitar):
