One of the most popular videos that Van Halen ever had on MTV was a video made by the Blue Angels, using “Dreams” as the accompanying music.
The band initially decided against making videos for MTV to promote the 5150 album because they wanted the fans’ first visual experience with Sammy Hagar to come from a live performance. So a few months after 5150 came out, the band released a few videos for MTV, taken from the band’s first live video, Live without a Net.
But there was one Van Halen video that came out in 1986 that wasn’t a live concert video. The Navy’s aerial stunt team, the Blue Angels, created a video of their own for “Dreams,” which they used to promote their 40th anniversary. The video was quickly picked up by MTV and placed into relatively heavy rotation, and over 30 years later, is still a fan favorite!
