Van Halen fans, it has finally arrived – a podcast exclusively about The Mighty Van Halen. “Dave & Dave Unchained” focuses on everything in the world of VH, plus the solo careers of its members. This monthly show covers every era of the band through album discussions, exclusive interview segments and more.
The show is hosted by two friends named Dave – David J. Criblez, a music journalist for over 30 years, has interviewed every member of VH with the exception of Wolfgang and has contributed to ‘The Inside‘ Van Halen magazine and Van Halen News Desk; David A. Marcone is his college roommate who shares the same passion for the band. Together they have seen multiple Van Halen, Sammy Hagar and David Lee Roth shows around the country for over 20 years including hanging with the band backstage and with Roth in clubs and even on his tour bus.
“There’s never been a band that has such a unique and intriguing history as Van Halen,” says co-host David J. Criblez. “Our goal is to explore all the twists and turns they’ve taken over the past 40 plus years.”
Co-host Dave Marcone adds, “Not only do they have great music to talk about, but let’s face it, there’s no shortage of drama with this band!”
Episode #1 — 30th anniversary of 5150!
Listen to their debut episode below, which focusses on the 30th anniversary of 5150. This 90-minute detailed discussion gets into the band’s new 1986 direction, Sammy Hagar and Eddie Van Halen’s live debut at Farm Aid, the shocking decision to avoid doing videos, the members’ hairstyle changes, the album cover art and whether or not the band should have changed their name. The Daves breakdown the album song-by-song from “Good Enough” to “The Inside,” not to mention the intricacies of the 5150 tour from the lack of Roth era songs to the overwhelming jabs at David Lee Roth.
It’s a great listen and really reminds you what it was like when 5150 came out. We think all the VHND’ers will enjoy it!
