Eddie Van Halen was one of the hardest partying rockers of the seventies and eighties when his band Van Halen was on top.
Flash forward 30 years and the Hot For Teacher hit maker has a completely different image, as his ex-wife Valerie Bertinelli explained to Meredith Vieira on Monday.
‘Eddie’s a great father,’ the 54-year-old Hot In Cleveland actress said about the 59-year-old musician, who she has a 23-year-old son named Wolfgang with.
Meredith asked the brunette beauty how it’s working out with father and son who play in the same band.
Wolfgang is on bass while dad sings and plays the electric guitar.
‘They are living a sort of rock star life. Does it make you nervous?’ asked Vieira. ‘You know a lot about the rock star life. The good and the bad?’
Bertinelli, who is now married to businessman Tom Vitale, said, ‘I do, but you know you know what Wolfie has made some really good choices in his life so I’m not worried about him.’
The One Day At A Time star added, ‘His dad is a really great influence on him. So I’m not really worried about him at all.’
And it helps that the Touched By An Angel actress likes his friends.
‘I really like the people he hangs out with,’ she added.
‘I visited him in Miami like a month ago. He was playing bass for the other band he is in, Tremonti. The guys that he was working with were so cool and laid back.
‘I didn’t see any drugs or alcohol. They all got smoothies. Of course maybe because I was there. I know he’s made good choices.’
She also finds it nice that he keeps his old pals.
‘He is still friends with his guys from kindergarten that he’s known. I just trust him. I have to,’ said the star.
When Vieria said she must be proud, Bertinelli responded, ‘If you could see my heart it’s just like this in there.’
The dark-haired pinup is also known for losing 50 pounds in 2009 while on Jenny Craig.
Last week she was in the news for claiming Christina Aguilera snubbed her.
Valerie Bertinelli has opened up about a less than pleasant encounter with Christina Aguilera that occurred a number of years ago.
On Wednesday, during an appearance on Watch What Happens Live, the 54-year-old Hot In Cleveland actress gave her side of the story regarding her alleged ‘feud’ with the singer.
‘Valerie, it’s said that you had a feud with Christina Aguilera,’ the show’s host Andy Cohen asked. ‘What was that about?’
‘I didn’t have a feud with her,’ Valerie began. ‘I was a fan at that time – a long time ago – and I went up to her ’cause she was at a Van Halen concert, and I said, “Oh my god, I think you’re a beautiful singer.”‘
She says Christina brushed her off and muttered, ‘Yeah, whatever.”
‘She gave me the cold shoulder,’ Valerie recalled, ‘and I thought,”B****, I’m a fan. You can’t be nice to me?””
