CNN caught up with Eddie and Wolfgang Van Halen at home in their infamous 5150 recording studio while on a two day break in Los Angeles. First, they talk about their decision, after completing 50 shows, to postpone most of the Summer dates on Van Halen’s current tour. They insist there are no tensions within the band.
When asked about their legendary frontman David Lee Roth, Ed proclaimed, “He’s great!” Wolfgang added, “He’s hilarious. We watch him on stage … he makes us crack up all the time.”
As far as returning to the road, the guitarist offers, “I know there’s been talk of Australia and Japan in October and November. Don’t quote me on that because that’s management that takes care of that…but I heard talk about that.” [Earlier today, VHND announced some November Japan dates].
Despite releasing a new album as recently as February, CNN reports that the band is planning on working on new music and maybe listening to some old tunes in their massive tape vault for inspiration.
Fans will salivate at the sight of the tape storage area, which is packed, floor to ceiling, with Van Halen-style musical bliss. “There’s a lot of music in there that’s waiting to be heard.” Wolf added, “It’s endless.”
“I’m just the luckiest father on the planet,” Ed said. To which Wolfgang responded, “You’re not so bad either.”
