Van Halen’s Facebook Posts Australian Concert Dates

On May 11th, 2011 SOUNDWAVE REVOLUTION, an annual music festival held in major cities around Australia, announced VAN HALEN as the surprise headliner for their all five of their huge festivals in September and October.

Then today, Van Halen officially acknowledged the shows by simply posting the dates on their official Facebook page. Here’s the full post:

THEY ARE GOING TO HAVE TO BRING THEIR ‘A’ GAME. HEADLINING A FESTIVAL IS NO JOKE, ESPECIALLY WITH HEAVIER SOUNDING ACTS ON THE BILL. I’VE SEEN VH SEVERAL TIMES OVER THE YEARS AND HAVE FELT (JUST MY OPINION) THAT SOME OPENING ACTS MADE VH SHOW THEIR AGE A BIT.

EXAMPLE. KENNY WAYNE SHEPHARD OUT PLAYED EDDIE ON THE VH III TOUR. KWS CLOSED ITS SET WITH ‘VOODOO CHILE,’ AND EDDIE OPENED WITH ‘UNCHAINED.’ THE UNCHAINED SOLO JUST DIDNT GET THE SAME ‘AWE’ FOR ME AS THE MORE BLUESY KWS DID WITH HIS EXTENDED JAMMING…. I HEARD LOTS OF PEOPLE SAYING THE SAME THING… ITS LIKE COMPARING APPLES TO ORANGES, BUT KWS STILL LOOKED LIKE HE WAS HAVING A LOT MORE FUN ON STAGE….

Was it not VH without DLR? Without Sammy? With that type of thinking, VH ceased to exist in 1985. In VH land, the lineup changes. It is what it is, and it’s always been great.

In the VH world one Facebook post in the past two years counts as news. Wow.

Shows how interested they are in connecting with their fans.

It would be a dream to see VH on stage again this fall – rockin’ like it was the early 80′s but you can’t get around the fact that these guy’s couldnt’ give a s**t about their fans any more.

The only thing that will get them to move in any direction (musically or otherwise) is a huge paycheck.

I’m kind of embarassed to still be such a diehard fan of VH after all they’ve done to alienate themselves over the past 15 years….I guess its that special type of music that nobody else can create that keeps me coming back.

OK – jilted lover style rant is over – I’ll pray for a return to greatness this fall from the best rock band to ever come together.

Just one solid album and kick-ass tour that goes off without any of their normal BS and all will be forgotten!!!!

But we are addicts, and our drug is VH….the cryptic comments of the news desk post must mean the VH machine must be starting to crank up. Irving Azoff is probably carefully orchestrating this whole thing. He’s doing a great job, because although I think Eddie is a major tool now, ( he used to be a god ..), I still can’t wait to hear some new music and can only hope it recaptures some of the magic…

VH is a band now & we’re lucky to even have new music ahead thanks largely in part to Wolfgang. Enjoy what we have coming because we may never have it again after this.

Great to hear it actually come from them and I hope there really is more big news or even a single within the next few days. I discovered VH only a few years ago and I feel like I’ve waited 30 years for this, lol.

For those of you talking about this single “Back Again”, I think that’s fake because if I remember right, there’s a series of youtube videos of guys on the Opie and Anthony show talking about the return of VH and they made up a song called “We’re Back” or something like that.

@ Sinatra Van Halen – I can’t make it to this show, but if I did, I would hope Courtney Love STAYS THE FUCK OFF THE STAGE when Van Halen is up there. I hope everyone stays the fuck off the stage when Van Halen is playing, even the few bands on this bill that I like.

@ Def B Loud – I’m pretty sure the “Encore” quote from Alex was a hoax. I hope so because I think that would be a cheesy name for the New van Halen album. I also read a quote from Alex (on wikipedia…I know, it’s wikipedia and it has since been removed…) where he said Wolfgang wanted to name it Mammoth, and Alex agreed it was a good idea. (which is a way cooler name for the album than “Encore” IMHO. Some of us just recently were talking about this in another thread)
The quote I read about Mammoth could have been made up too. I haven’t seen the source for these interviews so they could both be fake and most likely are. I hope the Mammoth one isn’t though.

No disrespect to Alex, MA, Wolfie, (F- Sammy) but we all know who wrote all the classic VH music- Eddie and Dave. By your logic, if Mike Stone never quit the band, then they never would have made it – its only because of MA’s (admittedly awesome) background vocals that VH made it. I disagree, I dont care who else was in the band, once Eddie and Dave got together, Van Halen was going to Van Halen, no matter who else was standing on stage with them.

A few points here, I think the album will be good, NOT great but a solid album, what will it sound like? well it’s going to sound very 2011 with a modern twist to it! something like between 1984 and 1996 I think. I hope! besides I don’t have anything else to add.

@ Panama Red – Thanks Bro…I also agree (Encore does sound pretty weak). Hopefully the wait n see is almost over. I haven’t been this anxious since my lil’ girl was born but even then we new exactly when her release date was going to be (it was a C-section delivery).
